The beautiful thing about a quality, well made pair of leather dress shoes is that they will look better and better over time...if you take care of them.
I'm going to share the bare minimum of what you can do to keep your leather dress shoes looking like new, while also keeping the leather moistened and clean so that they will last a long time and age beautifully.
It's actually quite simple, just a few steps and can be done in 3 minutes. I'll walk you through the process here with a few extra tips, like how to to test the cream color and where on the shoe to do so incase it isn't the right color as well as an important finishing step to darken the edge of the sole to really make them look new.
I hope you find this useful and can apply it to your leather dress shoes.
PS - I didn't mention how often I do this. If you wear your shoes a couple times a week, it's best to do this once every month or two. If you wear your shoes less, say once a week, you could probably get by doing this once every 3 months or so. However, you have to be the judge. If you find the color is fading, or doesn't look deep, it's time to do this. If they look dry and are wrinkling, it's best to do this. If they are dirty and dusty, maybe just a simple brushing is sufficient, but if they are dirty and dry, brush them and add some cream.

You're not going to damage the threads on your soul with wax. I've been a leatherworker for years and the thread that we use is waxed. Cheers Ron

After initial brushing I briskly rub a very liberal amount of Saphir Shoe Polish Beaute du Cuir Pate de Luxe (Neutral) into the leather, particularly any creased areas followed by polishing with a brush. I then follow this with (at least) one application of Saphir Medaille d'Or Pate De Luxe Shoe Polish (Neutral) using a separate brush to polish followed by buffing with a flannel cloth (using a little bit of water to achieve the best shine), then an application of neutral Saphir Medaille d'Or Mirror Gloss - Natural Wax Polish on the shoe cap only where appropriate. I universally use only neutral for every color shoe and virtually never need to use any colored polish except to color over deep scars that show a different undercolor. The above method results in a natural deeply lustrous shine, whereas colored polishes invariably obscure and cloud this deep lustre.

Thanks for sharing. When I do a mirror shine, I'll usually use the colored ones, but next time I'll try this method. It would also simplify the amount of shoe polish colors and wax I use.

@@Justin_KwanSome lesser quality shoes actually use some kind of lacquer when new to achieve their shine. I have been known to remove this with rubbing alcohol and then polish as I outlined. This results in a deep lustrous shine having a true patina of the leather rather than a superficial gloss. you have to be careful that it does not take off a poor dye job on the leather. Yeah..I have a lot of shoes that I polish regularly and a drawer full of colored polishes that I never use.
