I am Not a bush crafter nor do I play one on RU-vid. Just Wanted to show you an easy way to make a Haversack. One piece of canvas and four stiches on the sewing machine. Not difficult at all. Total project time is about an hour. If I can do it I promise you can too. I asked Tricia to come up with a design for it to be as simple as possible. Wow your wife did a great job at simplifying that bag. I might make a couple of modification to the one I make for my husband but this video is perfect for showing how easy it can be to make a basic yet functional bag. Thanks for making this video.

I'm a leather crafter and backyard bushcrafter, and bought some waxed canvas to make myself a larger haversack. I don't have a fancy sewing machine like you but I do have the Chinese shoe patcher hand crank machine. The machine is still not preforming the way I would like yet so I will sew it by hand. Maybe add a little leather to it. Thanks for your video and to your wife for helping you with the machine.

The wife’s bag looks nicer, the color and all. She must have magic hands. The pocket is cool. Would be great to see other designs with regular canvas and various pockets.

Very cool, boxing of the corners was a revelation for me! I recently got into the "bushcraft" thing, mainly for making leather items. I made a sheath, belt pouch and a forage drop bag, which has a waxed canvas bag. The Haversack is next on the agenda, thanks!

I'm using your video to make a haversack by hand-stitching it with leather accents. I was going to ask about the boxed corners but it was answered as I watched. I like both of yours.

Omg she made that? That's absolutely awesome! I would like one with the straps that you can wear it like a backpack. Like a civil war style backpack. You did a awesome job sewing. I gave my sewing machine to my brother because it was too complicated for me to run the thread up through the bobbin ect..

I had my wife there to do all the bobbin ect...lol Yes. She made that. I'm trying to get her to make another one but she has a long list of projects going on and I kind of keep getting pushed down the list.. lo

Great tutorial. What size of needle did you use and what type of string did you use to sew the seem. I would think it was waxed string or fine mariners cord like #8 bank line.

We used a jeans needle and regular polyester thread. Nothing real especial really. thank you for the compliment, the view and the comment. its very much appreciated.

That's a great looking bag, I think my sewing skills are almost as good as yours. Do you (or your wife) think waking the canvas after making the pack would be make it aby easier, or have any benefits?

Thank you. sewing skills don't have to be good at all to me as good as mine. lol. we tried it both way. waxing before seems to give a better more even coat. We found it harder to wax in the seams after the bag was already made. Pretty much maker choice.

What guage needle do you need to go through that heavy canvas? Also what guage kind of thread? Any suggestions from the wife where to get a heavy duty sewing machine like that for cheap? Btw she's a genius in design. You guys could make these and sell for big money. Slap a woodsey logo on it and there you go.

it is 50 weight poly and the the needle was a jeans ( she said like a 90-12)
