Simple Ken is hosted by Kenny Sebastian, A stand up comedian known for his observational humour and quirky stage presence.
A simple podcast about tackling the weekly conflicts of a comedian.
A strictly "no advice" podcast.
This episode was a bit hard to go through as I talk in length about my dog who the comic strip "Ken and Chip" is based on. I also cover the self bias that all artists have that comes in the way of their creation process and finally top it off with some relationship gossip (possibly the best question I have received so far on the show). This show was recorded on March 16th, so you can see pre-india- lock-down Kenny in all its glory.

I always wonder and keep asking my friends why they would go to a nursery and get a dog when they can very well take a street dog, raise it and give all the love it needs. Hey, Kenny. Big fan from America, I came to see you in Chicago and it was awesome. You were the first comedian I saw live. When working in comedy early, how did you balance comedy with doing a "real job" if you had one. Did you ever think about quitting comedy because at one point you thought it wasn't feasible. I ask this because I am thinking about trying comedy but I am in school for a degree and plan to go to medical school (parents didn't force me haha). I would have no problem sticking to this plan, but I really love comedy and always think what if I try it and succeed. I took it seriously, wrote some bits, and already tried doing open mics and really liked it, but obviously the number of comedians who make it are very few and it makes more sense to stick to my current plan. Also with comedy I'd have to deal with my parents, who wouldn't be completely against it but would prefer if I "stuck with the safe option." Anyway would love to hear your thoughts, thank you and stay safe. #simpleken

Qs: we always hear about bullies who were never friends with u.. when i look back now, i realize that one of my friends was in fact my bully in many ways. She was a well-liked person in general.. but she bullied under the guise of 'mean jokes'.. always looking for a weak spot to constantly ridicule, while completely lacking the ability to take jokes about herself. Du think these 'friendly' bullies are worse? #simpleken

love the ken and chips origin story. I lost my dog too. I imagine him being in heaven too and have made a world in my head about him and his life in heaven. But I kinda feel good thinking about how happy he must be in heaven, so I kinda feel okay to move on... Memories with him will always remain special and cannot be replaced. But then you will make more memories with other dogs...they all have individual unique personalities. :) Stay Strong Kenny! #simpleken

It hurts when you lose your dog , it hurts even more when you lose it because of your own ignorance. We had a dog in my maternal house and he was 6 when he died, he really meant a lot to all of us and was dear to my grandmother.Once he caught a snake in our yard and bit it to death, it was a harmless snake. So this time it was a venomous one, viper, and my grandmother from her previous experience let our dog out of the cage, expecting it to catch the snake..but the snake bit our dog and it died on the spot...it still remains as a wound in our heart, knowing that he could've lived more if not for that ignorance my grandmother had:'(

Uk my story's is kinda same the puppy one. There was a puppy infront of my school I kinda used to feed him every morning and one day when my school was over I buyed some biscuits and I was searching for him and then I saw , a garbage picker was hitting him so took him from there and I didn't know what to do . So I took him and went home and I was afraid that my mom's gonna get mad but there was no one home .so I took him for the bath and I was in 2nd std so I didn't know what to do. Bcs he was wounded then applied Soframycin skin cream 😅😅and I was worried and excited at the same time but then I somehow managed to convince my mom (uk with a cute smile )and now his one of us. Now his 10 yrs old

Would like to politely disagree with your opinion on people not having seen classics. All of us have such different backgrounds, upbringings, tastes that it's impossible to group everyone together. All of us see the world through our own lenses. For instance, I was more of a book reader than movie watcher and I would be very angry when people would say Harry Potter movie series is better without having read the books (coz the books are in much more detail). However, we have to understand that every individual perceives and processes information in different ways, and no matter how much we feel like, we can't expect another person to mutually share that passion we have for something.

I know that this question doesn't refer to me but I read something similar. Read about Anne Frank where she's confiding in a diary as she's got no best friend. It is always better to have ONE best friend with whom you can share extremely personal things and your inert feelings...it's ok if you don't have one but try making one who shares your same vibe your best companion. I don't have one as well for like 10 yrs now and I think its fine. Its no use pressuring oneself if no one person vibe that way. Its not a life requirement and its ok to have different friends to go to or talk to for each facet of your life or of yourself as long as you're sure those are real friends. Just my one cent.

Did finish watching Kumbalangi Nights and Super Deluxe this week. Thank you for the suggestions, both the movies were such brilliant works! As a North Indian, this has opened up for me a whole treasure of brilliantly written and directed, sensible South Indian cinema. Bollywood seems hopeless these days. Also, Fahadh Faasil is underrated. His acting skills are top notch.

My dog is adopted from the street too! His mother had given birth to 6 pups, 3 of them had died in accidents and I got the rest of them home. 2 of them are with my friend now and my dog's called Pluto. He's 3 and a half years old now.

KENNY!! Excuse me for a second while I throw a teenager tantrum.. but I've loved and adored BTS for three years along with you! I know you said "nothing against BTS" (let me tell you, people only seem to say that when they KNOW something is offensive) but it's just not fair to call out someone for the sake of a joke just because it's not your preference of entertainment. You're literally just feeding the stereotypes when you say that some kind of music, or any art form for that matter, is for "kids these days". I understand what youre saying but his statement is not completely wrong. Yes, BTS does have a variety of ages as their audience but the big, big majority of their fans are teenagers and young adults. In India especially, this percentage is even higher. So, it's okay, calm down. He didnt say anything like "BTS sucks" or any comment that would actually piss you off. In my opinion, this was a harmless joke.

It's been a while since I wrote that comment, but I guess at the time I was just in general frustrated at how narrowly BTS is perceived in India. I have seen a lot of adult BTS fans around the internet, although yes, that number is less here (I hope that changes). I think what actually miffed me is that I haven't seen as many people calling other boybands' music "kids' music" as I have for BTS or kpop. Maybe it's all the flamboyance and color in kpop that makes people think so, I sincerely hope that changes and people are able to see past that and see all the beautiful music and lyrics they produce :) Thank you so much for sharing your opinion, I would like to think that I have become a more tolerant army since that time, I dont jump the gun as often anymore:')

Yo Kenny, this has been the perfect long recording so far out of all of em. A couple of rants, a couple of questions and some recommendations at the end. But don't recommend obvious stuff like bahubali bro. If ashar hasn't seen it then you must have imported him from China or something.

Kenny u made me cry 😭. I recently lost my dog exactly the same way u did n I can’t stop crying now .. even she was 7 years old n even she had a kidney failure 😭n just like chipper we bought her home when she was just 22 days old ....had to feed her like a baby 😭n I miss her soo much 😭😭😭 please never stop posting chip n Ken ....😭❤️ #simpleken
