This beautiful tiny home, nestled into the forest of the British Columbian Gulf Islands begs for time to slow down and for life to be simple. It’s warm timber construction and earthen walls connect the home to nature and all the things truly important in life.

So many are unaware of how (our bodies, our inner being) naturally craves and thrives in a Nature surroundings. When we go away for a week holiday camping or even a beach. And come back feeling so refreshed and energized. Do you think that's a coincidence? No. It's our bodies and minds saying. Thank you! I needed that! Let's do it more often! lol😊👍

the quiet one! Sometimes! Agree. I go walking a lot at the county park here where I live. They have a koi pond tons of flowers and countless trees. I started an evening job in January and don’t get to go walk every day. When I do have time on the weekend it’s a different me. Unfortunately now the park is flooded. I live in Nebraska and we have had too much rain this year. It’s sad to see it. A dozen or so trees blew over during the last big storm. I hope to work here 21 months and move to Oregon where they have the ocean and national forests and such!

Agree. Going to the outhouse is just so Little House on the Prairie. Also, they are living in four seasons, as evidenced by the closet space. Open outhouses??? Oh good, get up in the middle of the night, stumble down a ladder + put on your parka to trudge out + figure out which freaking outhouse to use. The pull down your jammies to sit on an icy seat. This is hands down my favorite tiny house. The clay walls made it so warm and inviting and cozy. The windows everywhere and the rock used for the bathroom floor combine with the wood made it feel like a retreat despite the small size. Just gorgeous and yet simple. The outdoor bathroom is of course the downside, but small trade for the life you gain living here.

@LowsonIntl

Sweet cozy home, but the land is the key to it all. I wish more questions were asked as to how she came to get this land and what was involved, to educate the viewer interested in tiny home living. The only way a tiny home is feasible is having land to put it on, which continues to be a major roadblock. The need for tiny house living is growing every day because of the overinflated real estate market but the rules and regulations to place tiny homes is not changing with the times. Something needs to give in our current "system" to fulfill the needs of our society before it's too late. Homelessness is becoming an epidemic.
@JennetPreston
@JennetPreston 4 года назад
LowsonIntl Well said! The Gulf Islands, like the San Juans on the US side, are prime playgrounds for the one percent, putting the purchase of land there w-a-y out of reach for most people. If people of modest means have found creative ways around the problem, I'd like to hear about them. If not, then it's a service to viewers to be honest about the deep pockets necessary to live tiny in most places.

I like this house but I would need a more comfortable sofa and /or chairs to curl up in to read. I also would have loved to see what all the out buildings were. They seemed intriguing.

Maybe a "junk" type of dwelling for bikes, camping gear etc. but I would have liked to have seen it. Was the toilet really only 3 sided?

Will somebody please tell me where is this 'magical' dumpster that has all this perfectly good materials for repurposing?
@pygmygiant

Go for a drive and see where the local building sites are. It would take me a long time but I could definitely access most of the windows and doors for a project like this from homes within about 20 miles of me that are being renovated. I’ve rarely actually done it but just yesterday I asked a friendly neighbour about the dumpster that’s appeared outside his house. Turns out he was getting rid of an aviary so I’ve repurposed a lot and I’ve got a new woodshed.

There are several in almost every city, "Habitat for humanity", "Restore", "recycle materials", craigslist, etc. google your area.

Also, town dumps have the free pile. Check out facebook garage sale sites - lots of free stuff. The issue is having the time and discipline an place to store the materials.

They do exist! Business dumpsters are especially great places to scavenge. I used to have a little retail store and got most of my very nice display units from dumpsters. Spinning card racks, shelf units, even a nice desk and some computer supplies. It is amazing what people throw away.

It takes time and patience to accumulate the right things, but perfectly good materials get thrown away every day of the year. I've been running a small thrift shop from my NYC apt for seven years, and can't keep all the stuff I can find just in walking distance of here. With a car I could get even more.

As people are saying, the great thing about this home IS that it is a comfortable home. Yes it was presented well for us to admire, but we could see just how comfortable that it is, and how the couple love being there. An established garden and surroundings that show how much time and thought has gone into the whole environment, not just the house. It is also so good to see when people have designed something unique to themselves and not just a copybook design. The use of the stove and propane cooker for instance. Putting the fridge outdoors dates back in rural areas to times past, when the way to keep provisions cool, especially meat, was to make a mesh box and sit it in a running stream. It is great to see a home that has been so well created as this couple have done - many years of enjoyment let's hope !

I'm from BC myself and with millions of bears in our province I was really shocked to find out that they keep their fridge outside. It doesn't even have a lock on it - such an easy "opener" for smart bears... But the house is cute! Also, the gulf islands off the coast are just pure paradise!

my thoughts exactly- i know that area of BC and while it's not the most conducive to solar, they could definitely pull something at least in summer, and probably store enough to get them through a week or 2 here and there

As one having experience of far north cabin and outhouse living when young I do not miss using it at 30 below when the temporary bits of humidity would create frost inside. Having survived though it's a great memory to look back and laugh over. Our ancestors did not have it easy.
