Biophilic design is a term which refers to the connection between our built environment and the living world around us. It speaks to our innate love of nature, our biosphere and connection with living systems. This tiny home has been designed to incorporate elements of biophilic design and natural building to create a home on wheels which is beautiful, natural and healthy to live in, proving that a tiny house can truly be capable of having a big positive impact.
If you enjoy our videos, please consider supporting us on Patreon: / livingbig
Walker and Heather were inspired to create a home which incorporated their love of nature and passion for living a low-impact lifestyle, and together with builder Ben from Healthy Tiny Homes in Vancouver, they constructed their ideal tiny house which is now situated in their urban back-yard in Portland, Oregon.
Find out more about this tiny house and others on our website: www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...
Adding to the biophilic design elements, the home also includes some really interesting features, such as a living roof where the roofline has been designed to follow the Fibonacci curve and mimics the design of a leaf. Adding a living roof to a tiny house is quite an achievement, and Walker admits that it’s a bit of an experiment.

@chowe9, I like your comment, but recycle is the 3rd best of 3 choices. The saying goes: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. So a plan to reuse is even better! Recycling takes a lot of energy and fuel (pollution) is involved. I wish companies would take back old products (voluntarily) and replace the inner parts with their new, improved product to sell. Imagine all the outer shells never making it to the landfill, like home air filters, microwave ovens, etc.

@MegaJman72, but some people do the opposite. It can be cruel to act like they are headed toward proposing, let's say, if they aren't there yet., or even don't want to ever get that serious. When it comes to building something, it's good to let the other person know if their investment of money or time in the project is pretty risky, or if you intend on being with them long-term/marrying. Just my two cents.

Not only so that they have a future, but also that so many urban dwellers could do too if there was the initiative to do it. I was of the honest opinion that the grand majority were reacting primally from not grasping terminology and lashing out from this "perceived attack" at their intelligence. Ridiculous yes, but it only served to show their own underbelly so to speak. It is their internal issue from the varying degrees of humbling experienced, which was of course not at all his intention and he meant no harm or ill will, but I hope he and his love will grace this channel again one day, because I absolutely enjoyed myself. He was very precise in explanations and thorough, so respectful of his love and never once interrupted her when she spoke, and so proud and excited, I was happy to have the opportunity to be present to watch and felt like I was learning from a more knowledgeable person.

@lavane26

He did talk a lot and he did say "I, me, my" a lot, but I wouldn't interpret it as egocentric. I think he's just very passionate about design and this must have been a project that he was really invested into, and his spouse seemed to just let him talk because he was the architect behind it. There are loads of other videos in which, if it's a male-female couple, the woman is the one that does most of the talking, because she's the one who thought out more about the functionality or the sustainability or the aesthetic of the design, and the man just stands by quietly, and that's fine too. Also, it could be that she talked a lot more in the original recording, but when they edited the video they needed to keep to the time constrain, and perhaps because he talked more about the purpose behind the design, maybe more of the things that she said were left out...? People are so quick to judge.

It's a beautiful design! I love that so many more people are thinking about their impact on the environment. It's insane that we use clean drinking water to wash our human waste down the toilet and collect it all when it could simply be composted.

Those who challenge with new ways of thinking will often annoy others with closed minds. I loved the concept of imitating nature, and think this place is really special. Ok, it cost a lot, but often prototype does. So many aspects here that have inspired me. Thanks for showing this!

Loved this house!! My favorite was the white walls with the curvy, lit oak ceiling - so idyllic! I also loved the thought that went into the design - incorporating secondhand items and building with sustainability in mind. This project also showed how one could eventually scale back to live in the tiny while earning income from renting the big. I’d be interested to hear how the live roof is getting on in a year or so. There were so many ideas and design terms I kept pausing the video to research 🙂. Thank you Heather and Walker for sharing your passion and tiny home with us and thank you Bryce and Rasa for another wonderful video!! ❤️

I can understand that he’s probably just really exited and passionate and basically nerding out about this whole project and just wants to share about all these concepts that he values so much and why he values them. I have met plenty of men who are actually full of themselves, aka what they think is so great about themselves or their choices, in a way that’s blown out of proportion. I think that he’s just so passionate about the topic that he forgets to take a breath and let others give their perspective too. But I do think that, in order to be part of the people animals and nature around you, one must let all others each have a part equal in comparison to your own part.

Oh, I love the set up in this one. The use of the golden ratio is spectacular here. Those counters are gorgeous. The windows are beautiful and the river stone used in the bathroom is very inviting. I can appreciate that bath tub area as well. It makes you realize you really don't need as much room as you think. And if you're around people that's great for security. I find people more attentive and concerned to others this way which can be a benefit. And what could be better than to enjoy the outdoors. When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time outdoors everyday exploring new things leaving little "footprints" of joy and happiness. And, if anything, these tiny homes only bring us closer to nature which is what we're missing out on. We're supposed to be one with Mother nature not separate and constantly warding her off. She can be our enemy but she can also be our friend. Thanks Bryce. You always say the perfect statements on each of these tiny homes, the individualized tastes of the people and what makes them want to live life to the fullest! Excellent job, mate! :D

Please, just for everyone to know: It's not the Gaudí, it's the Cathedral of the Holy Family (Catedral de la Sagrada Familia) in Barcelona, Spain. By Antonio Gaudí. The architect didn't make it for everyone to know his name but out of the Faith he had. Every tower, every design choice, has a meaning. And it's religious. Don't take it out of it because it's a beautiful masterpiece, because the author wouldn't have liked it ❤️
