Setting the wrists correctly in the backswing will help with leverage and club face control, two incredibly important aspects of hitting the ball far and straight.
Many golfers who struggle to play their best golf do so as a result of poor wrist action through the swing, this video can help with a simple method to set your wrists in the backswing

Another great video Chris, you seem to answer every question I have before I even ask it! 😀 I've always wondered how and when you 'cock' the wrists in the takeaway... I've always been a fairly decent player off 5, but I really need to solidify my swing to be more consistent, this info sure will help....!👌🏻

Fantastic advice, I can remember a video you did a ways back that explained setting the wrist for gripping the club! Just a side note my coach had me imagine a laser is on the end of the handle and when I’m making my back swing, when the club reaches parallel with the ground I need to start making the handle point the laser towards the ball.

This is the best tip ever. My backswing was way too long to get all the desired actions in place. I was gripping with my hand angle parallel, as soon as I changed that grip angle with fingers pointed down I was able to achieve a full hinge before club was shoulder high. Complete game changer. Clean short backswing setting up perfectly for an explosive downswing with the hips. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Great video. For years I’ve thought that I just didn’t have enough flexibility in my wrists to get a proper cocking of the wrists. The only way I was able to get what I thought was enough wrist-cocking was to make that “cupping” move during the backswing.

Chris, radially deviating the left wrist at setup makes perfect sense. However, I'm confused about whether or not the same is true for the right wrist; it seems to me that the right wrist does not cock up (not a great deal anyway). What is your recommendation for the right wrist orientation at address? I really enjoy your videos!

Assuming you get to that flat/wrist set position at the top would one need to still turn the hands to square the club or do just swing the arms down and you should naturally square the club face?
@ceolmorjim
@ceolmorjim 4 года назад
So appreciated the reference of cocking the wrist is actually resturning it to its "natural position." Question: that then is maintained through impact. Yes?
@liquidmocofilmsllc4915
@liquidmocofilmsllc4915 3 года назад
Explaining the wrist offset was absolutely brilliant! It shows that the club 90 degree angle actually means your arm is in line with your hand. Without the hinge 90 degree angle at the top means your wrist is actually is ulnar deviation which explains why no power from that position. Love this explanation! It makes you realize that the real wrist release is thru flexion and extension not supination or deviation.

Concerning your grip, are you a proponent of a "Long thumb" or more of a "Short Thumb?" Also, Do you recommend initiating the backswing together with the hands and arms in a "One piece takeaway" fashion?
@jeffreyanderson5106
@jeffreyanderson5106 3 года назад
The first bit was a little hard to swallow the rest of it I agree 100% . Have any fingers pointing back towards the toes is a bit much but will give it a shot. That's the big fly see his players losing that angle and getting the club shaft in line with the arm at impact rather than retaining some of that flexion with a thumb is closer to the forearm

Sir, personally im more interested in your swing thought used to hinge the wrist. Are you hinging by flexing right wrist back thus flattening left wrist and if so when are you beginning that thought? When i begin to hit left draws unintentionally i often check my right wrist hinge and find its not hinging enough. Its a difficult problem to correct once feel is lessened. I then force a ln exaggerated early right wrist hinge very earl to ensure the hinge is performed however early hinging causes less accuracy for me. Any help via your swing thought is appreciated.

Love the pheasant in the background. I am getting pain in my forearm like Tennis or Golf elbow - which I think is tendon pain. After watching this I think that pain is related to the forearm twist and not the wrist. I was watching closely to see how the wrist/forearm turns when it meets the ball. What are your thoughts? I did not use our driving range, thin matts on concrete, for a while and the pain did subside. I was wondering how the wrist moves to meet the ball or it seems the body moves and the wrists remain. Thank you for making these videos!

I found the elbow pain goes away when gripping the club as hard with the thumb and pointer finger. I have also added working out with light weight doing curls and other activities to strengthen the bicep and tricep and forarm muscles around the elbow.

Chris, do you think that a lack of wrist set in the backswing,thereby depriving the wrist of their full range of motion, encourage a full uncocking (radial deviation) on the downswing. If so, do you think this promotes a hook?
