This suggestion is coming from an aerospace engineer. In my line of work people's lives are at stake which is not the case here. In aircraft and aircraft engines sharp inside corners are avoided at all cost since they concentrate stresses and are thus prone to promote fatigue cracking. I suggest you drill 4 holes at the corners as large as possible, but still allowing the frame of your hatch to fit. Thanks for posting this excellent video and others documenting your Jon Boat mods. I have a G3 Jon Boat and converted the live well (center seat) to a battery compartment including a cam lock to keep the honest people honest. This required buck riveting an aluminum plate (with 3M adhesive sealant) to the bottom of the boat to seal off the stand pipe hole in the hull. Installed the biggest marine AGM battery (Optima) I could find and a Noco charger. I worked for Honda so I got a good deal on a 20 HP BF20 outboard along with a mid-grade trolling motor. Added a "Bullnose" rudder attachment (Amazon) to the shaft of the trolling motor and highly recommend it. I use the trolling motor when maneuvering around the dock and the rudder/trolling motor combination allows for very controlled maneuvering at slow speed, especially when coasting. Moved the fuel tank forward of the center seat to counterbalance the heavy weight of the outboard, trolling motor and captain. Routed the extended fuel hose in the side channel of the hull inside split loom for avoidance of abrasion/sharp edge damage to the rubber. Always safety first. Keep up the good work.

Not gonna lie after I saw the foamed removed I was thinking that you do everything so clean I wouldn't be surprised if you painted it to match inside the seat hatch. Nice work and I'm loving this build. Plan on doing something very similar! Thanks for all the info and tips

Hi - really enjoy your channel. I am local too and fish Rocky and Tridelphia mostly - your videos on the 1448 conversion were awesome and I am thinking of upgrading/redoing my boat. Question on the epropulsion 6.0 - how fast can you get it up too? I am running a 55lb thrust on back and have a front trolling as well - I max out at about 3.5 - so looking to upgrade speed and considering all the electric options - my boat is just under -16ft slight v-hull and prob heavier than yours - any feedback appreciated but kinda thinking the 20hp Elco - thx so much and maybe see you out at Rock sometime

Hey. I typically get an average of 8mph and that's on a flat bottom bost which are typically slower than a V or Mod V boat. The batteries are Lithium but to power these motors those batteries are very heavy. I haven't been out to rocky since the levels dropped but hoping to for the fall season. If you see us say hi.
