I will note that droping from 1600x900 to 1366x768 using ATI's software up-scaling did result in minor gains (Interestingly, going lower actually made things worse. I suspect because more resources were being diverted to upscale than were released.) so it is something worth a shot if you have a smaller monitor.

I had reasonable performance several years ago when I last checked in on the state of play (2013 backer tired of waiting). Game was choppy .. followed instructions, purchased the cheap software and WOW! Game is now much more playable, smoother and looks much better with 15 - 20 + FPS gains over what I was getting. TYVM!

Wouldn't adjusting your desktop resolution to match in game resolution make more sense if you want to run borderless?

It would look like shit cause you basically stretch the pixels over the size of the monitor. It would look even more blurry. Upscalling gets a better end result

I could not get it to work at all. Sure if you use true fullscreen it might work, but with boarder-less windowed mode I can not get it to work. I alt + tab a lot when gaming (for discord / RU-vid / writing note ....) so i prefer to run boarder-less windowed mode. If you know how to make it work in boarder-less windowed mode please let me know as I would love have that work

@@DowntoEarthAstronomy I do it with the Nvidia control panel. 1440 on a HD TV. You need to tick the DSR factors to make it work.

@@robertse4026 I think thats DLDSR. I run on a 1080ti with a sony HD TV. It's not RTX so I dont get that option but SC runs at 45-55fps with V sync on to stop tearing and any screenshots I grab are at 1440. Image is much better than 1080 with little or no pixeling along object lines.

@@ricardo_1989 not true. 25fps+ on stations and 40 in ships. That from an ssd that win10 is also installed on. Seldom there is a stutter, yes. But it is enough to do some trade runs or take a gunner seat. Still have to test on planets. I am thinking about making a guide on how to achieve this.

@@TurWen The thing is, 40 fps is pathetic. I don't know why people think this is good. They need to stop adding shit to the game and optimize so that computers under $3000 can run it at a semi-reasonable FPS.

@@CramcrumBrewbringer 40fps is good enough for me on the go with a 600€-handheld that display itself I set to 40hz to have alot longer playtime. Not at my desktop. Unfortunatly version 3.17.2 dropped framerates again.

Well you don't actually need the steam thing you can just put the game in full screen mode instead of borderless and it has a much higher gain in performance

@@NerdyWolff I run one screen 4K and other 1440 - alt tab just dont work if I want to play 1440p on my 4K monitor, not 4K. As 4K is quite demanding. But yeah, this solution in the video works like a charm in that regard as well.

You can do this for free in the Nvidia Control panel. No need for a third party program.

This video sent me down a new path to managing FPS and game graphics. Even lowering the resolution then hitting ALT+ENTER showed a great difference with no downloads needed!... Although without the download the graphics took a hit faster.

2560x1080 is the first step down from 3440x1440, you should try that one. Lower than that Im not sure.

@@DowntoEarthAstronomy if you are looking for utmost fps you shouldn't be running borderless anyways. Star Citizen is pretty friendly to alt tabbing to desktop even in Fullscreen mode anyways, no need to run borderless...

With the free fly event in 4 days I'm gutted I'm still running a Gtx 960 2gb, I can't decide if I should get a laptop with rtx 3060 or buy a graphics card for my pc because my pc is only an i5 7500, 16gb 2400 ddr4 and nvme SSD but only running at 1x I believe so probably would end up needing to replace the whole pc too

@@tezraym A 1060 is powerful enough. You need a good CPU and a minimum of 32 gb ram. Game needs to be installed on a fast ssd and you also want to set up a separate pagefile that's at least half your total system ram.

Honestly comes down to budget and preference, I’d rather upgrade my whole desktop computer than buying a laptop. However as someone said in the comments, 1060 :6gb with a somewhat powerful cpu and 32gb of ram allows you to enjoy the game. I’d go for a i9 8900k or i7 9700k to stay with the same motherboard and have a great improvement in cou power

When I use this lossless app, the letters get tracers like in a LSD trip. Also the graphics in general start looking a bit weird. Does anyone else experience this and is their a solution. And no, im not high when I play.

just use a lower resolution than your monitor and use Stretched lol. Also make sure it is a division of your main native resolution. so 1/4 of 4k would be the 1920x1080 then just stretch image to full screen lol.

I dont think you need to pay for this program on steam if you have an AMD card you get FSR and Nvidia get NIS for free in your control panels. I run a 2070 and use NSI at 77% with 25% sharpening and the game looks great and runs waaaay smoother on my ultrawide native 3440x1440

For some reason doing this, downscaling from 3440x1440 to 2560x1080 gives me like 1-2FPS only. I have a 3080ti. So no, the $5 for that app, didn't really make much sense.

I have exactly the same situation (21:9 4k, 3080 ti = 35-55 absolutely unstable fps in New Babbage). I also noticed that my CPU (i7 10700k) is ~95% loaded and RAM usage is ~14gb from 16gb, players in chat said that RAM really could be a problem. Then they recommended to turn off volumetric clouds, in some locations fps got better, but in some it got worse, so i left it on high. Also, I've heard that FPS in this brilliant game depends on server you are connected to, so maybe when free weekend ends, it will be better, but i don't know if this hope worth 45$. If you find any solutions, please tell me about them. And how many RAM do you have?

already running the game in 1920x1080 and the game lags incredibly with terrible frames. I got more than enough to run the game, but the recent patches has messed so much with the game that it just doesn't run well. I get around 17 to 24fps depending on where I am and do. I sometimes even drop down to 4fps in extreme stutter situations. It's beyond bad. There was another Nvidia bypass method I used previously that gave me 60+ fps and now that method no longer works and has broken the game again.

@@fell7223 It was an Nvidia setting you could set in the Nvidia Control Panel that fixed fps by changing the shader cache size to unlimited in the "Manage 3D Settings" tab.

see i dont understand why im only getting 25 fps in all graphics presets. i have a rtx 3060 ti. and 16g of 3200mhz memory, and a ryzen 5 2600 cpu. I know its not my system otherwise it wouldnt be 25 fps on low and very high settings. it has to be something in my nvidia dashboard or something thats restricting me.

No, the only workaround is to go into the menu, graphic settings, and change the resolution. You don't have to keep the changed resolution, just cancel and go back to the game and the chat will be back where it is supposed to be. Downside is that you will have to do it every time you get in the pilot seat.

For those who want another in depth testing of lossless upscaling there's a vid by tenpound fortytwo about it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RlSieSMcFIo.html I've tried it out on my stone age i7 and RTX2070S but so far had no significant rise of fps. Next week I have a new mainboard with a faster amd chipset anyway and let's see what it does then. I like the fact that in space sim community it's less about showing off one's super fancy setup but more about helping each other.

@@balaclipa Don't know if that's of interest, but yes, there's a remarkable increase of FPS and quality. RTX3080 FE (a used one) and a new AMD 5600X with 32GB RAM makes the game much more enjoyable. Even in high or very high (don't remember if it's ultra) and 2560px you have an almost consistently sufficient FPS. I never used lossless scaling again.

@@RoyMantel ive got an rtx 3090 and 32 Ram (about to double it) and intel i9-12 gen I first lowered the graphics drastically and used some tips from the internet because i always got around only 30-40 fps. Only with this guide and lossless upscaling i noticed some serious changes in the performance Dont know if i am just doing something reaally wrong from the beginning.. because i think with my pc setup i really shouldnt have any performance issues.. Or its just about the game itself?

@@vasm.3898 From what I've seen in many posts it's usually better for performance to rise graphic settings high or ultra. This takes away CPU load (where the problem lies in most cases). My settings are on high and performance is good to very good. But the best effect I had by removing all background app, starup Apps and boosting the CPU in BIOS to Max performance.

Bet a treadripper pro would be cpu bound, and my pc this game uses 31.4 gb of ram, I'm sure if I had 64gb this game would use over 32gb

Or RSI can just optimize the game to run on modern and current gen hardware considering there has been 4-5 generations of of tech improvements released since this game was released. There is absolutely no fucking reason a 5800X3D, 64GB RAM, 3080Ti and Gen 4 SSD rig fully overclocked and watercooled cant run this game at anything over a shitty 30 fps on MEDIUM SETTINGS IN 1440p. Fix your fucking game RSI, so tired of not being able to fully enjoy it.

Ahhhh i think i know what you make wrong xD First: When you activate nis in the graphiccarddriver settings you choose a sharpening percent. Second: after activation the option in the Desktop resolutions IN THE NVIDIA Settings there are now Special resolutions above with states highscaliing what else (i use German Windows) Third: after changing resolution of choice you set the SAME Resolution in Star Citizen and voila double win, why? Because your Windows AND Game are runnning in Thesen resolution now, Borderloss Working now and the nis in upper corner is GREEN that signals you, i,m Working! Ehen you done with SC playing just deactivating the NIS Option in the Graphicdriverssettings. Ohh and NO i don't use the Nvidia Overlay or Nvidia game experience because every Overlay or extra program need little cpu power ^^ And i install the drivers manually. Ohhh something extra: NIS or FSR or Whatelse have not soooo much impact because the Game uses waaay more CPU power than GPU, when you want that the game calculates more with GPU you must choose vera high instead of high. When you go lower in the settings your CPU gets more work than the GPU because the recalculation to the lower graphics, this you don,t see the effect in other games but in SC because Constant streaming so... On high and below the GPU tasks the CPU to recalculate lower and it goes back to GPU. On very high the GPU use the Data raw.

@@DowntoEarthAstronomy Easy answer. Launch it in steam. Use the steam overlay. Shift+Tab lets you pull the cursor off a full screen game then. I also don't see an FPS difference borderless vs full screen.

I have to run on low even with 32 g memory. Apparently H.P. butt hats decided to make their pc have proprietary parts so I can't upgrade to the 3070 I wanted... no room to upgrade from the 1650 super that's in it

NVIDIA lots of things to use for my GPU rtx 2080 waterforce i own a 240ghz curved never used it - i like my 40" TV o/c it to 85ghz :) with a M2 1gb ssd something in game turn off fps restriction was 60 fps Now 150fps in BF5 keep searching videos you'll find all the answers CPU i7-9700k check all cores turned on = 8 the New ddr5 dont do anything in games worse in benchmarks mite be better in 2025

FSR doesn't require a special card. you can use FSR on integrated intel graphics if you want.

FSR 2 requires the game developer to integrate it. It scales the 3D geometry then overlays text / fine detail UI after the scaling so it isn't blurry. This approach scales the text and fine detail UI as well.

The biggest BS i've ever heard. Just switch from Borderless to fullscreen or press "alt + Enter" and you're done. Dont need any stupid software to upscale your games.
