You are an awesome teacher! I wish I could have you sitting with me when I attempt my second "woven" top! I wonder if your realize how many bits of helpful information you give out in just one session of sewing? Every time I watch, I'm making mental notes like crazy!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!💓-Mary
Thank you! I always struggle with cutting content or leaving in all the tips. I want to take some of the frustration out for those sewing along, or stuck on a project. Happy sewing!
Thanks for your wonderfully clear tutorial! I haven't sewn myself a dress for about 10 years and this has helped give me the confidence to sew myself a shift dress and I will be watching this as I sew. Your disappointment in the final fit was palpable. Looking back at your other vlogs, the shirt dress you made seemed to fit you better. Thanks again for these two tutorials.
Thank you! I think most of the disappointment was in myself for not taking the time to alter the pattern first. I always do. I know better. 😅 I have been thinking of splitting it up the side and making it a tunic. I love the fabric and style so much!
That turned out so cute! I love the fabric and the pattern too. You did great walking though the steps with us. I have the same issue with patterns as I'm shaped like you. I'm trying to learn to use finished garment measurements but it's hard as a new sewist. Maybe you can turn it into a top since the upper body fit is great. It would make a super cute tunic. Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Thank you! I may make it into a top. It would be easy to do a split side and leave it long. It would be cute over a slim pant. I am also always changing weight and it may fit once in a while! 😅 I have lots of fun projects in the works!
❤❤❤ I’m so sorry that it didn’t fit on the lower half Stacy, but at least you have shared this with us, so we know we’re not alone in this matter. It’s such beautiful fabric and sewn up beautifully. Perhaps the pattern measurements weren’t as generous. What about if you added fabric inserts on both sides? I loved the tutorial ❤❤❤❤
Thank you! I think it will fit soon. My weight fluctuates. I did consider doing some panels in the side seam but the fabric design would make it pretty noticeable. I still love it. It will get worn eventually! 💕
I have more of this fabric in a different woven pattern ready for another project! Ah, fit. I was lazy and didn't do a fitting. I should have paper fit before cutting and I would have not had the issue. Next time!
I’m not sure why most patterns call for 5/8 “ seam allowance and then we have to trim. I would prefer just using 3/8 when sewing the seams. 🤷♀️. Great tutorial!
Thank you! I think it is just for continuity. Sometimes, there will be multiple seam allowances in one pattern. The problem is it often it isn't very obvious and the sewist will sew all 5/8 and the fit will be off. I like a wide seam allowance for fit and alteration reasons, but often serge off those neckline and armscyes for comfort. So much consider when sewing! 🧵
What type of fabric is that? It's so me! I want to find something similar but not sure what to search. I have a hard time finding fabric that i like enough to invest in. If i like the print, it often doesn't have the right drape. I don't have many apparel fabric choices where i live.
I love this fabric too! It is duck fabric from Hobby Lobby. They had a whole line of it, and I liked everything. I made another dress in the same type of fabric in ivory and green. There will be another project soon made from this line of fabric. I walked in HL and wanted every one of the fabrics. It would make great home items or kitchen towels. Happy Sewing! 🧵
