Simulate a Camera on a Drone with Gazebo

Gazebo is a powerful 3D simulator that can be used to simulate not only drones, but once paired with ROS, it can also be used to simulate sensors.
In this video we activate a camera feed on a drone in gazebo which allows us to prototype openCV python scripts right from our computer. This rapidly speeds up development time by debugging right from the computer.

do we have to use ROS? if i want to achieve the same goal, can we do it without ros?

Good question. The main use of ROS for the apps we've developed is just for use in the Gazebo simulator. In the real world, you can totally do this without ROS if you wish

@@thedronedojo Thanks for answering. I have 3 more questions. :) 1. Is it possible to convert our code to C++? 2.Is the course compatible with PX4 too? (Atleast for the simulation). 3. Do you have any student discount? Or maybe a bundle discount for both drone programming primer and precision landing? I didn’t manage to get a respond from the contact option in your site. Thanks!

Hi. I use ros-melodic. My rostopic list has only rosout and rosout_agg. There is no camera/color/image_raw. Do you have any idea? So, i cannot connect arducopter's camera.
