EDIT: 𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗢 𝗚𝗢𝗧 𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗗. Had to trim out some parts of the review to resolve the issue, so the video is a little choppy, especially at 24:58. (I said "talentless embarrassment" btw) sorry! But I hope you still enjoy! Welp. This is a hill I'm dying on I guess. Hello fellow stranger! Thanks for stopping by! This is by far my longest video, so I hope that's fine lol. But I hope you still enjoyed tho! Any other movies/shows you want me to talk about? 👀 Hope you enjoyed your stay! Have a great day and a great life! Follow me on Twitter: @beaniiebrian
"If I had a nickel for every time someone overreacted and thought I was firing them, I'd have two nickles. It isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice." -Buster Moon
The best part of Sing 2 was that tiger who was meant to be Johnny's dance partner and brings out a broom to support him even off stage, hyping the beat along everyone else.
Fun fact - the lion from Sing 2 was originally designed by a furry. The original art was total lion bara daddy archetype. The studio actually "toned it down" dramatically. They were afraid of him turning into what Mr. Wolf has turned into.
I have a feeling they kept it, just look at the scene where the monkey told the loin to “Take off your clothes” and when we see him again, he’s wearing a T-shirt and underwear with no fur covering the body. Maybe that’s what Clay could’ve looked like, but I’m glad that THAT didn’t happened
They failed at toning him down because, as a furry, i've seen and retweeted so much furry art of him and Mr.Jimmy Crsytal. They knew what they were doing
The wolf guy was shown as never actually caring about Portia, he never even looks at her while she is speaking to him and is clearly excited. Then, when Portia "gets fired" (despite literally threatening the director's life if that happened) she dissapointed him. He literally rigged the game for her and somehow she still fucked up. Not to mention she is how old? 20? And yet doesn't have a job or anything else going for her. And yet whenever they speak with each other she acts and is treated like a bratty child. The wolf obviously cares about appearences and having the public good graces, so having a daughter on a important show was a good enough thing he could support until she defied him and suddenly it's not about what he wants but what she wants for her life. It's pretty clear to me that Portia has been infantilized all her life and the wolf guy didn't really too much of a fuck about her unless it affected him. So her Arc is literally about becoming an independent person at last.
This Also when he said he didn’t know why Porsha didn’t tell her dad to back down after she rejoined the show in his eyes she and Moon humiliated him for her getting “fired” and she wasn’t the lead anymore. Even with Calloway Crystal was still pretty pissed
Wanna know what's fucked up? Porsha shows a lot of sign of being an uneducated rich kid who never have been raised carefully or caringly. Where's the mother? Probably divorced Jimmy and couldn't win the custody to take Porsha because he'll think himself as a loser if he lost his daughter. Why did she keep saying 'sky-fi' than 'sci-fi'? She definitely haven't gone to school much or may have been tutored at home, nor even made other friends, yet she is outgoing and an extrovert. She can buy and go whatever she wants, but where's the 'learning'? What's more fucked up, is that her dad... is also right next to the television channel studio.... So as The Crystal Family really have to avoid making embarrassments because someone will have to tell the news about what happened to your careers or whatever you're doing at your own state. Rumor-makers are also nearby them.
I agree w/ you, the father was fucking shitty, I was really happy Portia went against him, shit made me grin for a while, it was great to see. I was also happy she managed to find her place, and with friends that would genuinely treat each other as family (not all the time, but I am guessing you get the point). While Sing (and/or Sing 2) weren't the best movies...they weren't the worst either, I'd say they're above average, but not great. Honestly, the thing/s the movies are missing, is well...the lack of storytelling, like what the YTer said, probs more development is needed, if they ever make a 3rd movie or spin-off, I just hope they actually do shit for them (well...Illumination, considering their nature, I cannot expect too much).
You might be a little bit too critical about the movies you review but that is exactly why I like your videos. You say what you think not lie about liking the movie for people to like you.
I feel like he doesn't give the movies he reviews points for entertainment value. Like he literally said that the jokes were funny, the animation was impressive and the characters were interesting in sing 2. Yet he only gives it a 6 out of 10 for the lazy writing
I might be biased bc I actually liked Sing 2, but my interpretation to the weird dynamic w porscha and her dad was that, "everything is good as long as daddy is pleased" like she would go and be good a daughter, pleasing her dad(like giving a good reputation to their name and stuff) and in return he would be nice to her but at minimum imperfection he would lash out to her . Long story short, he emotionally abused her. Like, prob porscha learned early on(in a bad way) that her father isn't all that good but just rolled w the punches and play her part, like even her overreacting when moon changed her role could be bc of that. Idk, maybe it's not that deep but that's what I understood.
Makes sense, the actions of a parent can have huge effects on their children. I.E Porsha’s reaction to being fired and Crystals reaction with being lied to
Honestly me too I literally almost cried when clay calloway's wife showed up and he conquered his fear and then everybody was singing along and I was like shit I'm not going to cry it's a kid's movie 😂😂
I actually like the fact that they don’t learn from their mistakes because they never get any consequences for their actions. Like why wouldn’t moon lie again? It worked last time right? He got the attention and theater he wanted with no trespassing charges so from his perspective it’s a profitable gamble and guess what? It worked out the second time to.
Sing 1 is accually a huge reason why i started singing. I heard frank sinatra's "my way" and liked it so much I learned it,and that's how I got my start singing and now, few years later, I still sing, am concidering it as a career far into the future and have been in 2 Musical productions, one of them as a lead role. I didn't even like the movie that much back then, it was my mom that insisted on 5 rewatches , but idk, I vuess that Story kinda bound me to the movie...
Similar experience here actually. It was a strange chain of events. I saw Sing 2, I thought the Clay Calloway stuff was great and touching and I loved the I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For scene. All that together got me really into U2 and got me back into rock music, so I started to improve myself at singing and guitar-playing. A year or so later, I got one of the leading roles in a musical, which has always been a dream of mine. So yeah, these movies may be corny but if you open yourself up to the pure earnestness of it, you'll find unexpected inspiration.
My only real beefs with the first movie were that 1: A $10 entrance fee from everyone who auditioned would have helped the theater's immediate money problems with repairs and unpaid staff, and 2: A 'Actually the prize is only $1,000' turning away 90% of the people in the huge line we saw would have still FILLED the entire list, and 3: The POINT of musical talent reality shows is that the audience gets to judge along with the actual judges, and a $5 charge for an audience would have taken care of like...everything. So I see the sequel has the same issues with 'Actually THIS is how you make this situation profitable' that the first one did. XD
26:21 - 26:38 I do find it kind of hilarious just how shady Buster Moon and his performers can be in these movies. They broke so many laws to get their big show off the ground in "Sing 2", and when Jimmy Crystal sent his goons after them to whack them, they had zero problems teaming up with Johnny's gangster family (who just got out of jail a while ago) if that's what they had to do to survive. It's not often that you see the protagonists of a family film be this sketchy, and personally, I kind of like it.
to be fair jimmy could just fire moon but he wanted to kill him and johnny´s gangster were doing comunitty service . everyone in this movie goes 0-1000 so quickly .
10:52 - On that note, I really wish the characters had more short scenes together. Like, after Ash breaks up with Lance, Rosita sits down to talk to her and gives her candy from her purse to help her feel better, just like a mom would do. Or even scenes like where Buster tries to bring out Meena's confidence, even the little things like holding her hand during the big show to bring her out of hiding.
During the first rehearsal seen when porsha shows up when jimmy leaves you can see her saddened by the fact her father barely pays attention to her. Also when you said jimmy would get her anything she wants was because he didn’t want to deal with her daughter
Regarding the Crystals, it's obvious that Jimmy values his public reputation above almost anything else, so it makes sense that no matter whos to blame, no matter how strong his relationship with Porscha is, he'd snap at the nearest person who's name is front and center at his embarrassing story, especially since Moon isn't here, and his anger can misdirect at whoever and wherever. As for Porscha, with her being a spoiled brat and total drama queen who typically gets whatever she wants from her father, it's not too hard to believe that one of the few instances of her father ever talking negatively and harshly to or about her would send her into her whole teen rebellious Arc.
You know the irony about these movies is that in a realistic situation Buster not being honest would have totally helped his career if he had just said he was friends with the sheep guy. Because the sheep guy is rich, and even sneezing in the direction of money would have boosted him up several points.
Sing is probably the only franchise by Illumination that I would willingly watch with my younger siblings. I wouldn't really want to watch it by myself but the characters can keep me entertained long enough to spend time with my family. I can genuinely appreciate the effort and passion that goes into the visuals as well. It really feels like the artist behind these movies genuinely want to make something breathtaking. It's just a shame Illumination doesn't take that extra leap to really make an outstanding movie.
But...the Porcha issue was established, in all the scenes we see her trying to get the attention of her dad, he agrees to whatever she wants but he doesnt pay attention to her, thats why she beg to be in the show cuz that was her way to impress her dad, ofc it didint work. How didint you get that? Its true that they dont show hatred, but as a cliché of famous rich daddy tht works so much he doesnt have time, the kid just want his attention, even though they are just a spoiled teenager that actually doesnt do much, have their time to shine but fails, daddy finaly notice their existence and see his spawn is a failure in the career he works on and this, bringing shame onto him. Like, for real? Didint you see that cliché? I mean, normally it ends on the kid been disowned, kick out of the house, and then they become succeful.
Well no, Porsha didn't join the show to impress her dad. She kinda only joined cause she wanted to, she never even begged, she just took Rosita's role and her dad just let her. Not once did the movie even hint that she was bothered by the lack of attention.
@@clark_4713 true! I was surprised that they mentioned that she joined to get her father's approval/attention which is never even established in the movie. I thought the reason she wanted the role because she dreamed about it once
If you really think about it, the whole Alice in Wonderland segment directly mirrors Porsha's arc.... Moon claimed the show they were introducing to Crystal in the beginning was going to be about a normal highschool girl, which are two words Cystal doesn't want to be associated with, "normal" and "high school girl". Porsha is like Alice from Wonderland who dreams about a world of her own and wants to try and experience new exciting things, but she believes she should be more entitled and to be a star to be successful. Only after she disappoints her dad, does she learn being big is not what it's cracked up to be. Her being an alien girl jumping around in her own version of space Wonderland represents her embracing "being in the wonder" Instead of "being the wonder" That's what I interpreted anyway. But yeah, the daddy and daughter dynamic was kind of muddled
I unironically adore Tori Kelly’s and Taron Egerton’s singing in the first movie, and I always wondered how they’d sound as a duet. Then Sing 2 delivered with so many songs where Johnny and Meena sing together or their parts overlapped and it was glorious!
I think Crystal was just too prideful to admit that he'd misjudged Moon's abilities and was also still angry that he'd been lied to by Moon even if Calloway did end up showing up in the end. Crystal is an immature baby man with no emotional growth. That's why he still wants to murder Moon.
HERE ME OUT: this is a MAJORLY underrated franchise and while the main movie and the sequel are basically the same plot I actually really enjoyed them. I liked both of them equally and are over shadowed by the minions and stuff like that which is highly overrated.
This actually makes sense, I didn't think of it this way. I kinda assumed he moved houses to stay reclusive, but I doubt he went that extra mile judging by how his house is organized.
Jimmy cares about his image. He lets porsha basically get what she wants because he knows that 1. There are quite a lot of people about. 2. Its easier for him to do that then to actually bother wasting his time saying no and trying to say why, when he basically has control over his staff. 3. If he started arguing with her it would reflect badly on his image and there's no guarantee the staff and things would keep quiet unless he made them all be. So a lot of people would start asking questions about it. When news gets out that she has been fired it is really bad for his image and everyone wants to know all about it and keep asking questions about it.
giving everything your child wants isnt love is just jimmy wanting to shut up porsha so she stop bothering him , i even think he killed his wife or porsha mom divorced him but he kept custody of porsha so he could promote the "family man" image to the public
I've watched Sing 2 quite a few times (it's a comfort movie honestly) and doing so reveals a lot of nuances that lead to Porscha and Crystal's conflict. When you look closely, you can see that Crystal doesn't really care for his daughter, just gives her everything she asks for without question. He doesn't look at her when she asks to jump, when she waves goodbye, and they don't interact much more after that. He's certainly a detached parent to a spoiled daughter. When she realizes he actually doesn't care for her, that's when their split happens. honestly I feel like the Sing movies could've worked better as a TV show, to have more time to expand on the characters, focus on backstories, and even introduce more unique music rather than being solely a jukebox musical.
Your last point is so true, I would’ve thought a show would work so much more better than a movie. The characters relationships and personal conflicts could’ve been fleshed out so much more than in the movie. And better writing
I personally love the SING movies, the only illumnation movies I like. Not just because they have anthro animals but because I love the music abd animation
Still confused how you’re channel is so underrated! I Always find myself looking forward for your next video! I hope you’ll reach as much subscribers as humanly possible because you deserve it ✨❤️
There is one thing I’m suspecting suki had helped moon escape not because she was appreciative of his show but because she couldn’t bare to see jimmy kill another person and now that she now had the chance to rescue probably that victim and any other victim who was locked there she always took that chance because those dummies can’t look at a dang security camra
Im pretty certain the reason why Crystal was hellbent on killing Moon even after his demands were met was cuz when it was thought porscha was "fired" it defaced him making him lose credibility. hes out for blood because his "crystal clear perfect" image was broken or atleast cracked. His ego got the better of him
I honestly love both sing movies, i know they are weak through the middle but the end Performances always catch me off guard and make me dance infront off the tv, and always make me go over it with a smile on my face
I remember watching the first movie when it came out and I thought it was meh, so taking that into consideration aswell as the fact that the 2nd movie got practically no advertisement, I honestly had no incentive to watch the movie. I guess it’s good to see how it’s a little bit better than the first one tho
Really? I saw Sing 2 trailers almost every day, sometimes multiple times a day after it dropped last summer up until it came out. They even had the chars plastered all over cereal boxes in the store for awhile. I think it got plenty of advertisement.
25:06 for anyone that is confused by this sudden shift in tone Jimmy and Porsha's relationship, remember what kind of person Jimmy is. Jimmy was a businessman who worked towards boosting his public image at any opportunity. Part of this involved producing performances that always turn out flawless. As such Porsha was likely just another Token to be used when the time was right. When Porsha's own talent was brought into question after seemingly being fired, when it was really just a misunderstanding. Jimmy actually lashed out at her for possibly the first time in Porsha's life. Showing that not even family is safe from his outbursts because in Jimmy's eyes Porsha was now being seen as a failure, not just to him but also in the eyes of the public. Which wasn't helped by the fact that nobody else actually tried asking for Buster's side of the story. If they did, things could've been smoothed out. Could've, being the key word here. Because this would still require Jimmy to admit that Porsha may've not been a good enough actress for the lead role. And that obviously was never going to happen because of Jimmy's pride. Remember Porsha's lack of talent as the lead was never actually brought up as a topic of discussion during the interview scene, just that she was "Fired" which could be interpreted in many different ways. That was what Jimmy was going for. This is actually a vary similar relationship to a father/son Dynamic from One Piece. That being the tyrannical Captain Axe Hand Morgan and his son Helmapoan. Morgan had also staved off his disappointment towards Helmapoan but for slightly different reasons. To Morgan, Helmapoan was simply never worth beating, yet. Then at a vary pivotal moment because Helmapoan had done something that truly irritated his father, Morgan too had lashed out at Helmapoan for the first time. This made Helmapoan reevaluate what kind of man his father really was. And much like Porsha at the end of the movie, Helmapoan was also motivated to change his way. In Helmapoan's case he joined the Marines alongside Koby, a person he was originally antagonistic towards but their time in the Marines ended up changing that and they became quick friends. 25:59
I loved Sing and Sing 2 because they make me listen to different types of music (manly pop music) and listen to movies that I can enjoy with the family.
Sing is like one of my favorite childhood movies... Even if the plot is a bit repetitive (that I just somehow only just noticed now in this video) sing 2 was amazing.. I love how they putted side stories and how they explained the characters and their personality throughout the movie... It's both good movies and I both enjoyed it..
I think the best thing about illumination is that since it's a relatively young studio, only existing for about 12 years and has only made 12 movies (excluding the mario movie), they arguably have the most room for improvement.
Thank you for saying that Rosita's husband isn't a deadbeat but rather overworked! I feel like most other people would call him a deadbeat in this day and age but the man clearly is working 12+ hours a day and still trys to make time for her and his kids! It's a small deal but very appreciated.
Me and my father watched venom and then we decided to watch this just to see how bad it was In the end we ended up finding it better then the venom movie💀
To respond to your question of why the Wolf still wanted to unalive Moon. It was because Moon technically embarrassed the Wolf publicly. Which tarnished his pride. Moon straight up lied to him, the Wolf trusted him, he thought his daughter was fired, and well, that's embarrassing. I hope that helps P.S. Anger management is a thing
"Anger Management is a thing" Try telling that to the Wolf, Crystal, lmao He has a temper indeed. I feel like if the Wolf didn't have a temper problem this film would've ended a lot differently.
Tbh people are always expecting top tier movies and when a movie isn’t top tier people automatically start saying a movie is bad and garbage. Even if it’s a movie with a good plot and story with nice characters.
They should’ve made the ending for Clay a little bit more impactful, but giving a backstory on how his wife died I have a feeling this picture from 23:27 has something to do with it, I think
I don't know where you're from but hello from Canada! I love your videos, I don't think you're too harsh as you point out actual big plot problems as well as ones that would often be seen as little and nit-picky but actually do really matter. I want to watch the second movie so much, I actually really enjoyed the first one but the points you bring up are good ones. I'm a sucker for animated performances.
When Crystal blows up on Porsha about her being talentless, was because he's an egotistical wolf with anger issues that probably never really paid attention to her. She was just some teen wolf/tool to make him look good that failed and made him look bad by being fired by some looser from nowhere. and the Jhonny and his father thing, I bet he never listened to Jhonny sing, and then BAM he's on tv singing and it's good. So he got proud and accepted Jhonny's path as a viable/real one.
I was kinda confused on why the wolf guy got arrested, like ik he did try to kill moon but there’s no evidence, they could have just framed him but there’s no footage or anything like yup guilty straight to jail, I may be missing something so can someone tell me please?
Lmao I thought of that too! During that scene I literally said out loud "how tf he got arrested that easily" when they have no evidence. It also worth noting that the wolf is rich and famous. Realistically, they would have a hard time arresting that dude.
I honestly think this might be one of my favorite animated film series... my only disappointment was that Clay Calloway didn't sing during the first play in the deep, gravely voice he had for the rest of the film... with all the somber heart and soul of somebody finally finding a way to grieve.... to me it would have reminiscent of Johnny Cash singing Hurt.... but then I'd still be crying... Sing 2 was beautiful.
@@beaniiebrian P.S i dont think your opening skit is even a skit i think you literally recorded universals audition place and thats exactly what happened
I saw Sing as the first movie I went out to after my father died when I just needed to make myself get out of the house. That makes Buster's and Johnny's plots hit so incredibly hard. Great movies for the format. I normally hate musicals, but these had good settings for the interludes to happen in.
28:31 Just to say about Porsha and the dancers, have you thought about HOW the hell they managed to put that together with everything they need within a few minutes!? We never heard what or when they changed the scripts and sets to fit the literal last-minute change of Porsha's role. First, they had a battle between the space explorer and the alien, now it's just the alien being positive, with a totally different song, with a different background so they somehow set up the floating things for her to pop. Also, the Illumination intro is not that bad, rather interesting, the singing and clapping along with the tempo as a group growing larger and louder.
