Strange World is a Disney DISASTER 

Hello random stranger, how are ya? Hope you enjoyed the video! I know I'm a bit late on giving opinions on this movie, better late than never I guess 🤷‍♂ I had an entire segment where I talk about what Disney could've done to make the movie a wee bit better but I decided to scrap it. I'll probably put it on the second channel (no promises tho lol) but who knows. Have a great day and a great life!

You know what? Maybe Disney needs a new villain. A real villain, like Scar or Jafar, someone who takes the conflict further than simple misunderstandings or family issues.

No wonder DreamWorks overtook Disney at the box office.

Modern Disney reminds me of a baby bird trying to feed itself for the first time, and not understanding why the food doesn't crawl into its beak on its own

I’m honestly very glad Dreamworks is currently dethroning Disney, seeing how corporate they’ve become, they dont deserve to be on top anymore.

You know what Disney REALLY needs, a new CEO. A company which came from doing animation, has a CEO which HATES animation. They need a new CEO, one with passion for the art of animation, a CEO that sees animation as hard work and not some throwaway or waste of time.

The "I'm not you, dad!" thing has been done so many times that frankly, I'm sick of it.

Dreamworks is becoming the new big entertainer nowadays. Their writing is better, animation is more experimental, and gives us what we want in a movie, even if its designed for kids. Take the new Puss in Boots for example. There's a lot of moments kids laughed, a lot of moments adults laughed, and the villain is actually scary. Underneath it all there is a lesson, but it isn't forced down our throats.

Disney also needs to make an original villain. NO twist, NO betrayal, NO internal conflict with oneself. An ACTUAL villain like Gaston, Ursula, Cruella, even Chernobog and he never talked (unless you count House of Mouse) Last Disney movie with an actual decent memorable villain was Ernesto Delacruz from Coco....THAT WAS FROM 2017!! I bet no one remembers any villains from any movies that came after Coco, let alone like any of them (I'm looking at you Ercole from Luca...literally had to look up what was his name) (Edit: none of the villains are in order of who I like, its just a list of random villain names, I was just listing off villains, thts it, nothing else. Also, forgot that Coco was Pixar, but thats not the point, the point is that it has been a very long time since we had an actual decent villain from Disney.)

It’s like that one scene in monsters university Disney: “once you lose, nobody will remember you” Dreamworks: “And if I win, nobody will let you forget it”

The sad part is the world building probably isnt too bad it just the story is centered around the characters which are bad. Like the whole idea of the world being a giant turtle actually opens up a lot more questions which in turn leads to a much more interesting story. Like were the humans there native to the world or are like parasites like fleas or if they came from somewhere else then how did they not know about the giant turtle? Clearly they would've had some kind of sign that something was off. Like its a aquatic turtle does it not ever dive underwater? Or is water too shallow for it to dive and if thats the case than why did it adapt to live in water if 90% of it body isnt submerged. Theres a lot to go on but sadly we'll probably never find out.

So no one questions if there are OTHER giant turtles out there with another town stuck on it's back? They just accept that they're the only humans in the world living on top of a creature?

Animated films usually don't get talked about in regards to their directors, so I wondered how this movie managed to fumble a pretty decent premise so badly. Then I learned the same directors made Raya and the Last Dragon and it suddenly made sense.

They literally had no competition on Thanksgiving and STILL flopped 😭

I remember seeing legit one trailer for this movie and then never heard of it again until people were saying that it flopped at the box office.

I think Disney saw Encanto doing well with the family drama plot and decided to do it again real original Disney

Even my mom, who actually likes Disney remakes said “Eh didn’t really like it.” Like wow your movie bombed so bad that even my mom is sick of it.

Let’s compare and contrast, shall we? The Lion King: child protagonist’s father dies in front of him and he weeps at his corpse’s side Mulan: a horde of no-nonsense warriors without a single speck of comedy destroys an entire village, including a child, and the protagonist has various breakdowns about her qualities and what she can bring to the family Cinderella: main character undergoes domestic abuse in an exaggerated, yet still very realistic and topical manner Moana: main character mourns her grandmother, co-protagonist was abandoned as a kid Strange World: characters always SLIP and RUN and SMACK ON THINGS and SCREAM and act WACKY!

Strange World is bad. Its marketing and box office was an absolute disaster. The movie itself is a hodge podge of generic story tropes, conflicts, and messages. They really try to force the conflict between Searcher and Jaeger and they really want you to think that they're exactly the same, and they're really not. Jaeger abandons his 15 year old after trying to force him to be exactly like him. Searcher lightly implies throughout the movie that he wants Ethan to continue his legacy, but he only becomes kind of forceful towards the very end. This conflict doesn't make sense and it's nothing new at all. There's some interesting ideas, like the giant creature thing, but nothing is done with it. This movie is bad.

"No bad guys".. biggest mistake. Villains almost always make a story 1000 times better

Beaniie has a point guys- the typical animal sidekick has like one requirement to exist and it's to be useful to some degree. The dog can't meet the ONE requirement so why does he have to consume perfectly good screentime that could've been used on something relevant?!

Now Disney is not gonna try original movies like Strange World ever again after that bombing Edit* THIS aged poorly

My brain imploded when the family started playing Lone Digger, it was shock and grief and shock and grief and annoyance because it didn’t fit the scene and was put in horribly

The accuracy of the opening skit was painfully on point.

The directors also worked on Raya ATLD, so you can probably blame them for the poor writing lmao

Jake Gyllenhaal’s entire performance as the dad sounds like he’s legitimately embarrassed to be in this movie, it gave off similar vibes to an adult actor appearing in something like Barney, where you can tell they’re just like “Can I please just grab my paycheck and go already? I feel like I’m degrading myself by being here”

I find it kinda funny that more family driven narratives where no one is the true villain were once the big new thing, taking over the classical heroes tale and evil villains, and now they’re the industry standard, with something like Puss in Boots: The Last Wish being praised for its classical heroes tale and evil villain standing out from the crowd

Caspian's line when he meets Splat, "It's so cute! I want to merchandise it." which is regards to how Disney usually makes tons of merch for their properties. However, in addition to this movie's Invisible Advertising, there was only a single Splat plush, a few t-shirts, and a water bottle available from the Disney Store. Highly unusual, compared to the entire displays of new merch Disney Store typically puts out for new animated movies. This movie did not even receive Funko Pops, which is especially abnormal for Disney Funko fans.

I never even heard about this movie until I saw it being advertised at my town's theatre. I still haven't seen it.

DreamWorks is awesome right now. Its not afraid to be creative, which means it's inconsistent but when it hits it hits. For every megamind or Shrek, there's a bossy baby, trolls, and shark tale...

Considering Toy Story 5 is now happening it's very clear Disney and Pixar are desperate for another animated hit film after Onward, Lightyear & Strange World flopped and considering two out of those three were original ideas it most likely means they'll be even more hesitant to greenlight original ideas.

Meanwhile, Dreamworks : "WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE FEALESS HERO? WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE FEARLESS HEROOO!?"

I honestly didn’t want to watch Strange World because I don’t trust Disney anymore and I knew the story would be mid.

I don’t understand why so many of the characters were rooting for the guy who abandoned his family

It was an alright movie, I'll give it that. But Disney doesn't need mediocre right now, they need wow movies. And their last wow movie, in my opinion, was _Coco._

Mediocre movies like this is the reason why Disney is losing their magic and it’s the reason why other studios are taking over, Dreamworks made Puss in boots the last wish (which I absolutely love this movie is a masterpiece) but Strange world and the god awful Pinocchio live action is killing Disney’s image … It’s amazing to see other animation studios making great movies and getting the recognition they deserve but at the same time, Disney doesn’t know what to do anymore with their movies … Disney has the potential to hire amazing artists and story tellers to make Amazing movies but instead it feels like the company doesn’t care anymore…

Disney: Dog characters have to be happy, obnoxious and oblivious all the time or they're not even dogs. DreamWorks: Hold my leche.

I think this Movie was Pretty Decent. 6,0/10. But it should be a Lot Better, like: - Be all that 2D Comic Style from the Beginning; - Show a Little More about Jeager Clade and why he loves to explore so much; - Instead of a Boring Black Screen with "25 Years Later", actually show Seacher returning to Avalonia, revolutionizing everything with the Pando Plant, meeting and marrying Meridian, having Ethan, adopting Legend (The Dog), Ethan and Diazo having a Better Relationship, etc; - The "Black and White Style" in the Beginning is never used again, so why not makes like "The Wizard of Oz": when they are on the Farm, everything is Black and White, and when they reach the Strange World, the Colors appear; - Still talking about the Colors, instead of the Most Part of the "Strange World" being all Pink, have a Lot of Varieted Colors. More Alive in some Places and more Dark in Others; - The Creatures of the Strange World being more Interesting, Creative, with Many Details, and especially, having *Face Expressions.* Okay, not all them, but most of them, *especially Splat,* like make him having eyes and a mouth similar to the Minecraft Slime, and how he is literally a Slime, he should have the Ability to Change the Shape of his Body in Anything he wants; - Having a Better "Negligent Father" Message; - Jeager and Calisto saying Sorry for their Actions; - Ethan declaring himself for Diazo, instead of they just ending together with no explanation.

Looking at the plot and characters in this movie, it feels like the directors or writers were afraid to give any actual tension or drama to this story. Good thing I never wasted a dollar seeing this in cinemas. Sometimes I miss older animated movies.

This feels like a rip off of Made in Abyss and a One Piece movie that literally is about an island being a whole ass turtle.

6:44 * Bingo from Bluey * 😔 Anyway, I think this movie mainly suffered from too many characters. We didn't need the mayor lady on the actual journey, the mother felt like she barely contributed to anything, and the crew didn't even need to be there with how little they existed. They should've had it just the family, especially giving the mum more relevance. Like mentioning she doesn't have a family legacy to uphold, or something, to bounce off the dad and grandpa conflict. idk I'm not a writer.

Disney’s writers seem to have a problem with handling meta-jokes, using them as an excuse for poor writing rather than a way of having fun with and subverting tropes.

This film is a textbook example of missed potential. I love the idea of searcher’s life works, pando being a infection that’s killing not just there world, especially the world being a living thing and him having to choose to kill literally his life works to do the right thing.

Something people don't really talk about is how the characters look like rejected prototypes from Lightyear and Encanto

One thing that confused me was how the pando works. They only go to investigate because pando is dying, implying that the creature is actually healing by killing it. But yet it's actually sick? Wouldn't that make pando stronger/more potent?

To be fair, WALL E is literally the best animated movie ever made, you could say “We could just be watching WALL E instead” in pretty much any situation. (But yeah, especially this one)

When I go to a movie theater, I want to see some cool unnatural stuff with a super cool evil villain. Not some sort of familial conflict or personal issues.

The “being inside a living organism” reminds me of Mystery Flesh Pit, but in a more “family-friendly” tone.😊

Man this movie's plot and conflict would be so much better if the 'twists' weren't twists and we had an actual antagonist. A: The 'twist' that the planet is alive should have come way sooner, like have Jaeger just say it when he reuinites with Searcher. It'd give these characters more reason to want to save pando before its revealed that its an infection. B: Have an actual villain, maybe have the bad guys be an evil corporation that want to be in charge of the city's energy instead of Searcher and pando. Callisto can still be a double agent, now she's just working for this corporation with a mission of making the crew disappear; and when its revealed that pando is an infection they go like "haha now we're going to exploit this resource for MONEY, we dont care if the turtle dies!" the bad guys all die in that PG-rated Disney fashion when the immune creatures realize they're another form of 'infection', the turtle doesn't die because that part was literally pointless, and the protags find like a more safe power source in the form of the turtle's shit or something I dunno. I came up with this in like ten minutes, compared to what must have been WEEKS in a writer's room for the plot we actually got. How do you fuck up the most OBVIOUS 'save the enviroment' story like that? Would it be ironic if Disney of all companies made a plot that says corporations are evil? Yeah, but its no more ironic than a notoriously homophobic company adding in their 30th 'first' gay character.

Sometimes you just need a villain who isn’t a twist and is just obviously evil from the beginning like Jafar,Scar or Maleficent.

“What kind of story has no bad guy?” That was the writers cry for help, “please, please let me write a good villain!!”

For me, it's really funny when someone says a movie has lazy writing, and than fails to understand something that was explicit explained before hand in movie. Like, the end was not Deus ex machina, after all it was show early in movie healing cells that can HEAL the body.

We had two dog sidekicks in a short amount of time and the vastly better one with a better balance between comedy and seriousness, who alone managed to help the protagonist in his hardest times, is the one technically from Shrek. We sure live in a strange world

I always like to rewatch the classics to re-experience Disney in its prime.

Mean while puss in boots has an amazing story and villain.

The art style is so round, i think they literally omitted sharp angles or even the concept of it in movie

"Was it self sabotage?" Wouldn't put it past them. They did it with Treasure Planet, except at least Treasure Planet was a solid movie in its own right (even if it is just Treasure Island in space) and just got outright screwed by its terrible, spoilerific marketing. Basically, what happened with Treasure Planet is that Disney intentionally set up the marketing to basically spoil a majority of the movie, in order to make sure that the movie bombed at the box office as justification to say that "people don't want 2D animation anymore". I wouldn't be surprised if they screwed Strange World up to try and engineer circumstances that can be used to justify a claim of "people don't want new and original stories" or something like that.

Disney: Alright we need to make a decision should we try to make a good original movie or should we keep making live action remakes? Random member of the board: Can we make an original movie but not really try or make it bad? Disney: Genius! That way if the movie is bad we can keep making live action remakes and just say we tried to make an original movie but it didn't work! Perfect!

This movie felt like a crossover between Journey to the Center of the Earth and Osmosis Jones and missed the mark on all fronts.

I think Pixar should defect from Disney...That's my bold opinion.

8:52 Yeah this part of the movie was very frustrating for me too. When they were locked in the closet, I figured that splat should slip under and open the door. It takes them forever to think of that solution, and when splat FINALLY does do it, he just shows the DOG how to do it instead of actually opening it. It was such a waste of time. 😑

am i the only person who is kind of tired of disneys art style. The big noses the realistic styles. I dont like it because it makes all their movies look bland and makes it all look the same. I just wish they could break out of their mold once and awhile. Besides Spider man into the Spidey verse and puss in boots 2 has proven that people like more artistic and pop art styles rather than realistic molds of the same art style. Times have changed and im not saying that Disney has to go completely away from their realistic style im just saying they should try to do something new. Hopefully Elementals helps them realize this.
