Mr Azman Kamis, owner of Wedang in Golden Mile Food Centre, learnt the ropes of cooking from his cousin, Mr Anuar Arshad, and started the business in 2004. He was caught by a pleasant surprise when Wedang became listed under the Michelin Bib Gourmand Guide in 2016.
Wedang refers to “hot drink” in Javanese. So why name after drinks when it sells noodles and satay? Possibly been asked more than a thousand times, Mr Azman tirelessly explained that when he visited his wife’s Javanese family, the term “wedang” was mentioned to him. He mistook it as “a tray of drinks”. But this became a fond memory of Mr Kamis, and this is how the name Wedang came about.
At the humble stall, five halal dishes are offered - Gado-Gado (Indonesian salad with peanut sauce), Satay, Mee Soto, Mee Rebus and Tahu Goreng (fried tofu with peanut sauce). One can have these tasty dishes for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
