People not in their shoes will not understand the commitment and the servitude of this leader...relinquishing the leadership is the most difficult transition of their life. God knows their heart.
He is smart and impressive academic qualification. But I felt that he lacks the charisma and stature of the PM of S'pore. Not sure whether he will hold himself well in the international arena. My view is that for many years he will still be under the shadow of the SM LHL.

What will happen to Singapore that is so-called a world-class financial hub after the upcoming general election? I think in my opinion there will be full of uncertainties with current on-going geopolitical crisis around the world.

Singapore had a large pool of competent civil service employees, well educated and well paid. That ensures efficient policies to ensures the country is successfully managed. Politicians are well paid also and they need to prove their worth.
@@elsieyong703 Agreed to certain extent that Singapore's education is among the world's top class. At least we excel in the ability to acquire knowledge and skill, especially in the 3 Rs. But it can be improved further, though this had been progressively done in the past. One skill that should be developed is the ability to "think out of the box" for solution and perhaps "question" certain "truth" being taught if legitimate doubts arise. Another generation?
It is rather a difficult situation to succeed a country, where our 5th terminal of our airport has been building for more than 10 years. Now no news, still WIP and DUE to be completed for another ten year. The fact is that we don't even need another terminal. These are the kind of our planning is all about. When asked about the project it is never answers. With no projection and amount of money been spend and how much further have the country still need to spend. It is still not answerable.
I think PM Lee did not have much of a choice. CCS (the original Chosen One) shot himself in the foot and was never popular with the people. OYK looks weak and not outstanding-just another civil servant and not PM quality. The party has been scraping the barrel for years as it struggles to attract talent to the party. All they can get are civil service lifers and ex army generals.
The first generation leaders with LKY, GKS etc had a heart for the people. But the 3rd generation leaders depended on money of the people from heavy non direct taxes, i.e. CPF, COE etc. Then came in rich and high value individuals from China, India and other countries. There was not much entrepreneurship among the leaders. Sad
It is not easy to let go what you hold the responsibility in your hand for 20 years fighting for the survival of a small independent countries especially through so many turbulences. Understandable when the situation have not stabilised. Let go make a better man at some point of time. Let others lead but not necessary to be totally absent from the scene. But of growing up for the new bearer is through learning through experience with good mentoring. Be confident with your choice of your successor. This is the history for Singapore since LKY's time. The world conditions and stability are not consistent but that is not within control but the only way is to work around it. Let the new leader and cabinet members find their own unique effective way to direct Singapore forward. Don't forget whoever are the opposition parties and the people on the ground their opinions on any important country issues. Hence let go, participate from the side line and listen to the crowd reactions. Now being the third party position it may be clearer view of what is going on. Thanks for your 20 years of devotion to Singapore and the good welfares of Singaporean.

You can Mr Lawrence Wong I not political people but I make test most on the ground already 49 years.First I am poor elderly my knowledge and exprience from 1975 but not involve with political only normal.I have contribute so much with my time and my own pocket money even I have no money but I help many local and stranded tourists all over all concern SafetySecurity and I managed to bring good name to my Country and my movement some inNews paper some not.I make saveral test on the ground .I respected all the Ministers but Inever want to step in as political.I do all from my heart many of my griends ask me to join Politic I said No.I fear my Lord.I love peace not war and Humanity.I am real Singaporean My family have Chinese Malay Indian Sikh and others.
Actually Lee Hsien Loong is not old for his age he should stay for another two or three years. Actually it is indeed sad for him to step down after 20 years.
@@elsieyong703 For a politician and a leader of a nation, he is not considered old compared to Anwar Ibrahim who is 77 years old. Biden is over 80. Many world leaders are as old or older than him. In a time like this we need him to lead the nation as none of the 4G leaders is good enough to be PM.
I hope Singapore will not be a back door to China's progression. China's tendency is bullying, and Singapore must never be relegated to that situation under the New PM.

SGP has President Xi of the PRC to thank for in that many funds involved in Chinese companies & other assts, resulted in many financial entities leaving China/HK for SGP thus resulting in rise of rent in SGP.
