Singapore's oil spill has reached Johor. The Malaysian state began a clean-up effort on Jun 21, a week after a maritime crash off Singapore's southern waters discharged 400 tonnes of oil into the ocean. Singapore authorities say they have been informed and relevant information is being shared with Malaysia to help with efforts. Singapore also earlier alerted Malaysia that the oil slick could potentially reach its waters. CNA speaks to Liu Nengye,
Associate Professor of Law at the Singapore Management University. He says businesses can claim loss and damage and the insurer may end up paying millions of dollars to clean up the oil slick. Professor Liu also explains the legal technicalities involved in making such claims.
