First, Harry is wearing Gucci! We love his eclectic taste in clothing. Second, he has bad hay fever or allergies so the first clip-he’s also about 16 there-that could be the reason why you didn’t think it was that great. Third, I’ve seen all of these clips and yes they’re live. The clip where you questioned if it was live or not was done in the Abbey Road studio and yes, it was live. Fourth, when someone makes what you referred to as a messed up face, not round could be because of a facial thing that happens when he sings. Nobody sings perfectly and besides, its his style. Fifth, Harry has stated that Sign of The Times makes him emotional when he sings it. Its a very personal song to him so if he’s slightly and I mean very slightly flat, it’s probably because he’s emotional. If you’d seen the end of the song his eyes were tearing. He was emotional. Sixth, these video clips spanned about eight years. For a guy especially lots of things change your voice from the time you’re 16 to 24! By the way, I’m a 58 year old woman who’s had lots of exposure to music, all styles and I think you were a bit harsh in your criticism.

He does the mouth thing on purpose to get a certain sound. He knows he does it.

1) Don’t make fun of Harry’s outfits. 2) I’m glad you like Harry’s voice. I agree it’s really powerful and he really can hit high notes. 3) He chooses to do the strain as for that is his style of more open and louder high notes.

I believe that most of Harry’s facial expressions and mouth movements during singing are a stylistic choice. He clearly can sing high notes without making those movements (i.e. the Two Ghosts clip). I think he understands the style and genres that are perfect for his voice and makes choices like that to further show that. I think people are quick to assume he’s straining, but he has shown on more than one occasion that he can hit those notes just fine. He may have an off performance every once in a great while, but no one is perfect. As to your comment about Sign of the Times, I think it’s awesome that it did so well. Not only is it great to see so many people accepting and praising Harry, but it also shows that his fans aren’t just a bunch of teen girls that love typical pop boy band music. Those same girls, women, boys, and men that have loved Harry for years aren’t surprised by his success. We knew he was a legend in the making a long time ago. Thanks for reacting to Harry. In my opinion i feel like when harry styles hits high notes he isint struggling at all but hes adding more of an effect to the song that matches to the songs emotions and thats a style of doing it or thats his style of singing i dont think hes straining at all,your mouth doesnt have to be semetrical when singing to ✌not be straining✌ im sorry its just my opinion

harry was younger and less experienced (not saying he was bad because he is amazing) when he was singing those higher notes. his voice obviously changed a lot which is why he sounds a lot better now because he has a lot more experience. he was 16 then, now he is older. there will be an obvious voice change. Harry is an amazing singer and I don’t personally think he strains a lot. Harry is smart he knows what is right for his voice. I feel like he feels comfortable when he sings those high notes, which is why he chooses to sing them. His live performances will probably have a few mistakes and flat notes. its a live performance not a recording. (these are just my thoughts no one take these personally)

Personally, I couldn't care less about how anyone's mouth is shaped when I'm listening to them sing. If they are singing well, I'm a fan. Granted so far, Harry Style's - Sign of The Times, song is the only song I actually am a fan of so far by him. When I first heard it, not even knowing it was him singing it nor did I even really know anything about him at the time, the tune was the first ear catching thing for me. And then listening to him sing with the sharps, the vibratos, the flat notes, the whole nine yards, made this song a hit with my ears and taste in music. Like I my vocal couch told me once back in the day, "nobody knows the proper notes of a song better than the singer/songwriter." I think Harry Styles did an outstanding job with it. And after learning who he was, I began listening to all of his work all the way back to the beginning of One Direction. And absolutely yes! He came a very long way from back at the start of his career. This Sign of the Times song, Harry's vocals for some reason, makes me think of, Steve Perry and John Cougar. It's so old school to me, which with my taste in music, is a great thing!

lmao when you were comparing the first two about how he sounded i’d just like to point out that those beginning clips were literally like 5-6ish years apart... but honestly he was around 16-17 years old in that first one and i still consider it very impressive!! and i have an inkling that the person who made the video put that clip first on purpose for sort of shock value and so you can see the difference.

Harry isn’t strayning he chooses to have that kind of aggressive voice. Oh and btw the This person who made this video chose his worst vocals he’s had. HES HAS WAY BETTER VOCALS I SWEAR.

It’s not straining he chooses to sing like that and it is also probably because he doesn’t use as much falsetto for his high notes as a lot of other people, he chooses to sing louder and more naturally(which sounds better either way because hello it’s Harry Styles)

in the first clip he was 17-18, he was still younger and his voice was changing 😂 and hes literally sick allllllll the time so it wouldn’t surprise me if he was sick. also it was an acoustic so he was going for more of a raw sound. and he knows he does the mouth thing, he does it to achieve a certain sound, he does it mostly to bring out vowels

I started to hate this video when he compared the first video w the other one, he WAS 16 OKK .... AND then he STARTED TO critiqued his clothing choices.. I was like okok BREATHE IN AND OUT! Harry Styles clothing is iconic, be careful what you say about it. In this fandom, we're overprotective asf and be careful what you critique, you're a singing teacher not a fashion critic. Also in Sign of the times, the note on 'sky' is meant to be slightly lower.

Btw, on #12 the highlight was Harry's ability to sing all that in one breath. Or at least, that's what I found interesting.

He is quite an interesting one. I agree on the first clip, I've always thought he was sick every time I've heard it. It's not the best and not the worst I've ever heard. I loved Sign Of The Times for the retro vibes. I personally listen to a ton of that style of music so it was nice to see a modern artist go to it, and now look at how many people are following that route. Even going his route with fashion in these suits. Solid live show too by the way if you ever catch him. I went to two of his shows this year, one at the Ryman (so fairly small venue and early early in the tour), and Bridgestone Arena (definitely bigger and toward the end of the tour) and it was neat to hear the difference in him.

Also on girl almighty what was so amazing is that he did that all in one breath and still sounded like a freaking god

you are comparing his vocals from a clip from 2012, when he was 17-18, to another one where he is 23, are you serious ¿¿???

It’s not a strain because he does that mouth shape even on relaxed easy notes. He does it to direct the sound of his voice. Many many excellent singers do that and I think more professional singers do it more than amateurs. Harry really knows his instrument and how to use it. Dude you might need a little more education before you criticize his singing. He is singing it the way he intended it to sound and I did not hear anything flat in the one note you pointed out. He is singing LIVE with nothing perfecting his voice, it’s pretty damn near perfect and when you listen to someone live you don’t expect it to sound like a recording. You have to look at the over all sound of the whole song not nitpick one note here and there. Freddie Mercury was one of THE most amazing singers and live he would go off key here and there but it made him even more amazing. Having every single note be perfect is what you find after everything is sugar coated in the studio. Live is always better simply because it’s NOT perfect. I’ve watched several of your videos and it just seems like you want to come across as some amazing vocal coach and you can pick out these little imperfections but have you even actually mastered music theory or anything else that goes along with understanding music? Cuz it doesn’t sound like you have a clue. Just sayin.

He definitely had better moments than seen in this video even though these were great. He really goes for the emotional raw vocals and it makes he music sound very honest and I think that’s what is so appealing about him and his album.

The way he moves his mouth was intentional...he does that on almost every song even though he can reach note it wasn't because he couldn't reach it...he does that to make new sounds and note's Also his high notes are supposed to be like that since he also is a baritone and that's why it's a little shaky...also he isn't straining he chooses to do that on purpose he was 16 on the 1st one and 24 in the 2nd one

Literally first clip and second clip were like 7 years apart, he has grown as a singer since so its been put out of context.

Just wanted to say that he was not straining his voice in the beginning, that's how he sang when he was younger with more of a raspy sound, but he still could sing the high notes but that specific sound fit the song better.

Adam, Very, very late to your reaction video but I wanted to thank you nonetheless for including Harry Styles in your selections. I am a 60 year old woman with no vocal training but I know what I like in music and I cast a very wide net in the artists and genres I gravitate toward. I've watched Harry grow for a while now and he is quite impressive. I love the gravely texture to his voice as well as his airy falsettos, he has a remarkable honesty to him which seems to become darker and richer as he ages. I believe "Sign Of The Times" was a success because of the use of live instruments, no auto tune and just a lovely blend of Harry's powerful vocals along with the band and those same instruments. Once again thank you for putting your time into this review.

You have to keep in mind that there were several years between when the first two clips were filmed. The first one looked to be when one direction was pretty new and the second one was from one of his solo songs within the last two years or so. So of course he would have developed vocally during that time.

It because in the first clip he was still young then so his voice is not yet well developed and balanced unlike the second clip in which his more older and his voice is much better than when he was young.

I am a huge Harry fan and I agree with you on #1, but also, he was just starting out so if anything, this shows how much he's learned during the years. I believe his technique has improved so much. Thank you for your honest analysis, it's more educational this way.

It’s the middle of the night and i’m using headphones, and every time you talk i think there is someone in my house. My stomach drops every time.

in the first one it was shocking because he was so young and he was able to sing like that and then the other one that was quite short where he was singing with one direction was amazing because he sung that all in one breath and was able to hold it so strong. and in the last one the reason why he voice was shaky was because he was crying... the mouth thing he does by choice to get the sound he wants.his fashion is on point and he is literally such a great singerrrrrr
