Optics wise, I kind of feel like she’d have been better saying look this wasn’t any funeral, it was a major and important event for republicans, I realise people would be upset because they couldn’t attend their family funerals - I accept that view but I’m not wrong for going, having been invited by the family , and just own it. I’m not saying that makes what she did right - but that seems easier to defend and less sort of slithery. Also the chair suggestion that it was hypocritical is unfair. There is no parallel at all between Boris partying, and going to a funeral of an important figure when you are essentially the leader of that cause (regardless of how people might feel about that cause).

So we have a loyalist barrister educated at Cambridge and a British adjudicator presiding over an inquiry involving a Sinn Fein minister regarding a former IRA members funeral. Of course there will be no bias involved. (Cough) What was the outcome again of the entire British cabinet breaking lockdown rules to have numerous drinking parties. PM Rishi refused to apologise, got a fine he never had to pay and promoted to PM by his party.
