What I have learned that works for me! Down 17 pounds in 6 weeks. I weighed 142 this morning. I walk six to ten miles a day. So I have tripled my average daily walk and at times have quadrupled it. I am extremely sensitive to dairy even ghee. I am doing better eating some fat on a New York strip. But I have had a lifelong aversion to fat on meat. (Always hated pork.) I am cooking to a more medium temp so that the fat is cooked more. It is not as objectionable. I have loads of autoimmune issues which are largely “in remission” Sjogrens, Connective Tissue Disease, Hashimotos, arthritis, and Fuchs Dystrophy. I use MCT oil and coconut oil to supplement my fat. Inflammation is down. I have satiety and dropping weight. I know coconut is a plant source but I don’t react to it! I can only eat egg yolks, beef (not from Walmart), along with salmon/ sardines. This seems to be working. Being in tune with your body and correlating it’s signals with what you eat is so essential to finding what will work for you and heal your body. Got a ride to OKC yesterday for three appointments. Grateful I did not have to drive since it was raining, I would have canceled and rescheduled. Great news resulted from the visit with a scleral contact lense specialist. I am blind in my right eye so just my left was examined and fitted for a special lense that will decrease the distortion from the Fuch’s Dystrophy and Epithelial Membrane Dystrophy. My vision can be correctly to only 20/50 with standard glasses. With a trial lense yesterday I was able to see with it nearly 20/30. I say nearly because I could only read the first and last letters of that line. Dr. Scott Samples was optimistic that with a custom lense I will read the entire line. A scleral lense is larger and is not a soft lense. The size helps to retain vision by not
letting the eye dry out. The solid material shapes the cornea to a proper form and the moisture retain allows focus. Having one eye on examined and fitted cost $600. The lense itself will be $500 but should last 2 years. This is very promising and offers me a lot of hope. Next week, the cornea of my right eye will be removed and new tissue will replace it. With the “Sea Lion” diet, as my friend Carnivire Kipp calls it, my overall body inflammation and depression is decreasing, my energy level is improving. I can wear a size 12 pair of shorts (these are my friends shorts she accidentally left at my house). I need a belt with all the size 14 and 16 shorts and pants that used to fit tightly. I am so delighted that the weather, due to appreciated rain, has finally dropped from the daily 100’s to a high of 78 today. Fantastic walking/ hiking weather. I was able to have breakfast and get my dishwasher and washing machine going before heading out the door this morning! With highs in the 100’s over the summer, early morning hours were
too precious to waste indoors. Excited to be able to go backpacking. Can you sleep when it is too hot? How about everyone watching, what temperatures are comfortable for nodding off to you? I can’t sleep when it is too hot. At 2am yesterday, the thunderstorm and lightning started. Three strikes hit near my home, with the third knocking out our power. I couldn’t sleep after that with the air conditioning and fans off. Opening a window would mean water pouring in, so that wasn’t an option. I had made beef jerky and wanted to make pemmican that morning. No power to run my Ninja blender so I had no pemmican to bring with me. I brought a cooler with grilled meat cookies also known as hamburger and a grilled New York strip. I wasn’t sure if my driver would eat out while I waiting for me. Ended up eating with him at Chipotle and having a fresh steak instead. Very sweet indeed! I only got a mile in walking yesterday due to five hours of driving and three medical appointments. I had further Orientation and Mobility Training with my cane. I also saw an occupational therapy specialist. I now have 6 plus readers that can help me read! They also have prism glasses which allow me to focus so well, I can read tiny print with them. They are $75 and special sunglasses which increase contrast allow me to see better in bright light outdoors but run $45 each. Maybe I can get them later. The Library of Congress has free books for the blind and I will be getting an audio player shortly that will allow me to listen to any book available. I am pretty excited about that. I had pretty much stopped reading. It is amazing how much technology can help but we just don’t know about it until we accept a disability and are ready to move on from there. Denying you have a problem and ignoring it won’t make it go away. A lot of the issue with acceptance is acknowledging that we are not on the same level as everyone else and that we need help. That is a tough pill to swallow for someone who has always been fiercely independent. There are five stages to dealing with loss - denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.
