you can do that if you're working with one face, but when you're working with 2 faces that make a "thick" wall, pushing a face through both walls is simpler, because this keeps you from having to define the perimeter of the opening on both the outside and inside of the wall. its alot easier this way.
That is useful when creating openings in "single faced walls", but not on "double faced walls", because it doesn't create faces between the two faces and you'd also have to delete openings on both walls.
I have a flat, block rectangle of wood and I'm trying to cut out half of a cylinder shape out of the top. An impression that you could set a jar into, for instance. Why doesn't this method work for this? I can't seem to remove the half cylinder area for the block.
@aidanchopra i got a problem, it doesnt make a hole, it just makes the block thicker. but i dont have any lines in the way. it is also parallel.... then i tried to delete the block after i used the push/pull tool. but then the other face of the wall was also deleted. help?
After many hours of frustration I've finally found the "trick" to create openings in thick wall with two faces. When holding the left mouse button, push slowly through the wall and do not release the left button before you see "on face" appear next to the cursor. You can then release the left button without moving the cursor. I've found that moving the cursor slowly inside the frame of the opening will activate the "on face" message, in fact it seems to be an essential step to see it appear.
IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have created new walls, pushed it until it comes out my damn ears it just creates long blocks "pushups" from here to Cairo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please help I am getting frustrated now.
On my model (House) when I try to apply brick material to the face it seems to fill in the inside of the external walls and leaving the face transparent, and so on if I orbit. anybody help?
