Mark Knopfler composed ‘Piper To The End’ as a tribute to his uncle Freddie, Lance Corporal Frederick John Laidler, a piper of the 1st Battalion, Tyneside Scottish, The Black Watch, RHR, who carried his pipes into action and was killed with them at Ficheux, near Arras, on the 20th of May, 1940, aged 20.”
My husband was a fabulous piper and died unexpectedly in January. We played this song at his committal in the crematorium ... not a dry eye, but everyone loved the beauty of this song which skipinnish deliver perfectly ... thank you Skipinnish x
This is a Mark Knopfler song off his wonderful 'Get lucky' album - a tribute to his formative years in Glasgow - along with 'Border Reaver' (about the Albion lorries) and Glasgow shipbuilding (Born on the Clyde). I would love to see Mark and his band with these boy's, Skerryvore or Runrig - a Geordie like me but with deep Scottish link's.

See myself as being a Bruce quite literally! Comes from my grandmother my dads mothers father his grandfather haha, my great grandfather who I see quite literally as my hero Andrew Bruce in my family, yeah my family hero haha, though he died before I was born if I could end up like he did on his death bed and still be making jokes haha!!! Saw on a fellow former Runrig band fan friend of mine haha (though still a friend on facebook of course haha yeah I'm loyal alright haha) I had no idea that Norrie would accept my friend request, great lad is Norrie!
