I had three of that model and two of the successor. Great cars, especially on holidays and long trips. And when Skoda get their act together and build an electric Octavia, I'll buy one of those too.

I had a passat with 398k miles, a bxe 1.9tdi PD, and now I've a skoda superb mk1 with 220k miles, got the superb completely done up, everything you name it done, full suspension rebuild, new interior 130 injectors and turbo, new tyres all around, dual mass flywheel converted to single, brand new clutch new timing belt and pump. I'm going to keep her for ever. The secret to these cars lasting for ever is oil change and oil filter every 4.5k miles!

Great, but try getting insurance on a 15 year old car you've just bought and you'll discover just what that NCT cert is worth.
@GeorgeFalls
@GeorgeFalls 7 лет назад
carsQhere autoline will insure a fifteen year old car as a classic, as long as it's a second vehicle.
@carsQhere
@carsQhere 7 лет назад
George Falls Well that's useful for those of us who can afford to run two cars and have the space to keep them. I had a focus from new for 13 years and found I couldn't shop around for insurance when prices skyrocketed because of its age despite it being perfectly roadworthy.
@BobFlavinVideo
@BobFlavinVideo 7 лет назад
My own car is 11 years old and I had no problem getting insurance. Email me your problem and I'll make some calls.
@typhoontim125
@typhoontim125 7 лет назад
Actually George has space in his garage for about 6 cars! PS George: Autoline only insure UK residents I presume, so no use for us in Ireland.
@carsQhere
@carsQhere 7 лет назад
Bob Flavin Solved the problem by trading for a nearly new Octavia combi. Thing is, insurance companies in Ireland are declining insurance on +10 y/o cars if you haven't owned/insured it previously and even if you have they're loading you for the age. Nothing wrong with older cars properly maintained.

great video bob 👍good to see a car as old as 15years with 8000k on the clock and skill kicking about and not layed up in a field down i kildare for parts. Me mazda is 17 years old and has 60000 mile from new only had 1 previous owner. Annoys me when the NCT will fail an "old" car thats honest but pass all the vw scandel "year range" that cheat to pass an NCT.

Hii guys.. just want a bit of your time. I drive a 2007 Skoda Octavia 1.9tdi (ALH).. and it’s kinda becoming a headache now.. the problem started few months back when the clutch started slipping so the guy from my FNG test drove it and came to the conclusion that it needed a clutch change.. So the very next day i did the same.. got the clutch and pressure plate changed (note: i didn’t replace the flywheel as according to the mechanic it was good in condition).. The day clutch got replaced car was running fine but the very next day it started slipping again.. This time my doubt goes towards the Slave cylinder.. i myself check it and bam.. it was gone.. oil was leaking.. So i got it replaced too.(as these parts are kindoff headaches to get here in my country so what i did was i replaced the slave cylinder with a used OEM one which was okayeesh in shape) a day or two went by it was driving as it supposed to but the third day again slipping starts😶.. Brake oil is filled to the max.. no leakage whatsoever.. Now I’m confused as hell as to why and how the clutch is slipping.. (Also i have close to no brakes.. whenever i push on the brake pedal it makes hissing sound and the pedal’s travel is almost to the floor but the brakes are only working about 10-20% of what they should).. Both the brake and clutch’s issue started somewhat around the same time.. (bottomline: Now i’m really confused if there’s air in the brake lines or did i really make a mistake by not changing the flywheel or is it the second hand slave cylinder unit) Is there anybody who can read such a huge comment of mine and help?

A farmer neighbour of mine had one 7yrs ago, a 1998 with 780k MILES on it, it's probably still going somewhere, he sold it that year and bought another mk1 but face-lift like that one a 2004 and he still has it as far as I'm aware. No idea what the mileage on the 2004 is now though, I'll try and find out 😂

My friend still drives Alfa 145 and it is still perfect. No special attention needed. The big difference though is that almost every VAG is boring as hell and Alfas are so cool. You can still drive 166 and feel like the king of the road. In similar age VAG you feel like a travelling gypsy.

When they re-test do they not just look to see if the fail items from before have been corrected? In many countries that's all a second test is limited to if done within X days. The way you were phrasing it it sounds like they re-do the whole test.

Dan Wall those aren’t really major issues tbh. It’s nothing to do with the engine. The problems you had are relatively inexpensive and easy to fix if you know what you’re doing (you should if you buy a car like this). Sure things get broken but you can experience that on any car.

It may have passed but in the event of a serious crash your relying on safety features from 2000 to save you, things have moved on a long way since then and it can be the difference between walking away from the crash and not.. For me the cars to old on safety grounds and as for the nct, they don't see everything. Just because it passed doesn't mean it's 100% mechanical sound.
