Does Europe not have bugs? I've noticed a lot of their windows just open with no screen. You can't leave an opening in your house in America or you'll fill up with bugs

True. Bugs would swarm especially if you have the lights on in the room. It certainly is an innovative design though.

Some type of simple scrolling bug-net would be feasible - one for all three window sides that could Velcro at the seams. They could drape over the outer balcony and be rolled back up and secured with a loop and ball

Late reply, but no, only during sommer will you get a few bugs inside your house, but nothing too bad. They just have simple wasps, flies and mosquitoes (not carrying diseases) and other common night swarming creatures, but all very harmless. They tend to stay outside and hide in plants and flowers. But if you go further south to Spain and such, I guess that’s a different story because of the temperature, but Scandinaiva as a whole is quite forgiving bug-wise. Might have something to do with the rough winter they tend to have.
