SkyzoneFPV Steadyview Fusion Board V3.3 🧮 // Did They Fix Mix Mode? 

Yes, firmware A and Firmware B must be copied. But, no SD card is involved. #1. You plug the goggles in over USB-C to a computer, and then hold down the power button and left wheel. #2. This boots the goggles up in a mode that mounts it as a visible drive on your PC or Mac. To flash the firmware, you then just drag the firmware files A & B to the "drive" that your PC sees. Let it transfer and that's it, you're done with the firmware flash. For firmwares, see here: www.skyzonefpv.com/pages/download #3. The next thing to do in the goggles after installing the new module is to choose SteadyviewX mode instead of RF-Normal. Very important because it will not work at all if you don't switch to steadyviewx mode. #4. Then recalibrate RSSI so your % numbers are accurate. For the calibrations, the options are LOW and HIGH. Calibrate on LOW first with no VTX or drone running. Then, turn on a drone or VTX and run the HIGH calibration, with the drone around 2 meters away. I want to do a whole video on this process, but didn't go into it for this one. It would have made it a 20 minute video. The most important thing is don't waste time flashing any fw on your new receiver, already seen someone almost brick theirs by doing this.

@@beeradfpv In the System menu, Scroll down to Firmware version and check what "FW1" says. It'll tell you what hardware version you have so you can download the correct firmware. Mine said FW1: 2.3.6 before I upgraded, meaning that mine were V2 and so I needed the V2 goggle firmware. After you update, also, it changes the firmware information page to tell you that you have Sky04x V1 / V2 / V3, since this has been confusing a lot of people too.

@@JohnCuppi Just updated my goggles. mine were V3 goggles on older 3.4.6 firmware. Updated to latest 3.4.9. Also was able to easy take the module out as mine had no tape or adhesive holding it together...lol Must have know something better was coming...haha. now i wait for the module to be delivered. Thanks for the easy tutorial! This was what was in my menu. FW1 V3.4.6 FW2 V02.00.00.10 Hw V3.2.3.4

Thanks fred! It is possible to never run into this problem if you don't use an affected camera that can't sync right on your hardware & firmware. I'm glad the new firmware seems to have fixed everything for me so far.

@@JohnCuppi I finally got the fusion board and replaced it. However, intermittently I am getting a black and white video. This is happening on the bench, so should not be due to signal issues. My old Eachine EV800 is showing proper color, so it's not a VTX/cam issue either. Does it matter if the module is installed on the left bay? Mine are, and I see that yours are as well. I think for quadversity they need the streadyview x module in the right-side bay.

Yeah... I never went down the path of quadiversity, do you find it to really be worth it? I'm glad the v3.3 hardware just worked for everything I have now, and not just the majority of my micro cameras. I updated my old 2.3 stuff to the latest firmware, and it actually caused some quads that worked great before to run like crap. The rekon3 wasn't like this before I updated everything. I'm glad Skyzone is still supporting users, but yeah, I wish it was offered at cost of shipping alone.

@@JohnCuppi I have not noticed any definitive improvement telling me it is worth it. Maybe the update will show the difference 2 vs 4 receivers. The 1 big CON is how fast Quadversity drinks your goggle battery with 4 VRXs running. You really need to monitor your battery closer because the end is abrupt. Bigger Lipo in my pocket with Lipo alarm has been my solution for that. Anyways great review bro. Always great info.

Yep, mix mode combines 2x video signals to reduce noise, but when one of the 2 receivers has a delay, then this is what happens. It's called sync pulse construction. The camera drifts and the pulses aren't set right, so it can roll or shake, or colors get warped to hell. Rapidfire and TBS fusion have also had this issue.

@@JohnCuppi upgraded Fusion still rolls especially on "fusion" mode, the only VRX that never de-syncs is Wildfire afaik, a bit less range but I love it tbh, I use it as much as my Fusion

Thanks for the comment! Yes I am the first one to upload a comprehensive test video on this new module, I think there was just not a lot of interest from other creators in getting to this. But it was an important test and i'm happy it's been helpful. I have not done any ELRS backpack testing at all with this module. I use ELRS and plan to set it up soon, but I have been busy on other projects. Also, at this time, I mainly fly a lot of analog micro quads that don't even use ELRS. They are frsky spi models. So I have not had a lot of motivation to get ELRS backpack up and working yet. I believe the $5 to have the backpack option is worth it though to have the option, and adds resale value if you ever plan to sell the goggles.

At least you know this should be a very inexpensive fix if it does!

For long range, TrueRC LR antennas are probably the best www.truerc.ca/category-product/5-8ghz-2/receiver-long-range ... I use the X²-AIR 5.8 MK II with my DJI goggles and they are fantastic.

Thanks Barry. The fusion board is an attachment that goes onto the entire receiver module. If you already own Skyzone goggles, all you need to is purchase the fusion board for $25, and the receiver module comes apart for you to replace it with. It’s a quick, cheap, easy fix.

My understanding is that since it can only be done 100% receiver-side, since it is pulling data in from both antennas, it has to ensure that the camera data is being received at the same rate from both receivers. and that data is up-to-date and matches. I imagine it's like two people trying to watch a movie or show for example, side by side. You want both start playing the content at the same exact time, so you sync yourselves up and hit the play button on 1-2-3. And then, if one of you drifts because of lost fps, maybe because your computer had a burp, you fall behind. Not a big deal for two people watching a movie if someone gets a few seconds behind, but for a receiver trying to combine that data to construct one picture, that's a major problem... Generally, you want to choose a short sync time, that's what is best to avoid drifting away because as you said this is really hard to do with a connection that isn't two way. I'm guessing that better hardware must do something to allow the steadyview to juggle all of this, perhaps detect a desync and correct it before the corruption gets to the user.

This will not change anything with interference from other pilots. That’s more of an issue with making sure everyone is on a channel/band/power that’s appropriately spaced and low enough to not stomp on each others signals.

Yeah, many already went that route. Sadly it’s too late then, BUT - if you ever have intention of selling your skyzones and keeping your rapidfire, it’s nice to know you can fix it. I’m thinking of selling mine in the future to buy the HDzero goggle.

Correct. If you have the ELRS fusion board and select something other than "SteadyView X", such as RF-Normal, etc, it will not work properly at all.

@@JohnCuppi I have the non-ELRS board V3.3 which (flashed to latest firmware), according the the Skyzone website, is the same fusion hardware as the ELRS version. The issue I'm having is when I select SteadyviewX and power down and back up I frequently will only see snow until I switch to RFNormal. I can then switch back to SVX and all is good until I power the goggles down.

No, it will not work. Skyzone has confirmed that it won't work and I've tried it. The major hardware revisions need to match. 3.x and 3.x are needed. Sorry.

😢 Yep. But, at least you don't have to buy a rapidfire, this is much cheaper and fully works integrated with the skyzone goggles. Very sad that they did not just replace this for free for everyone.

You can, but only if you use ExpressLRS and setup the backpack. There is absolutely no other way to control the module from either within the fatsharks, or externally since it has no screen. Really not an ideal setup. Skyzone now makes the SteadyView X which is suited for that.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I cannot see it working with that firmware on your eachine ev300o v1, everyone had to update their skyzone firmware to get this to work. Reach out to skyzone about this because eachine has totally abandoned this goggle, none of the links for the downloads for it are working...

It is not the same for me, but I use Sky04x V2 hardware. Calibration is successful for me, this does not happen. This sounds like a problem that you should contact skyzone support for.

Hi John, As this morning, when I've powered the googles I've got a black screen, I've used a spray for electrical contacts on fusion board to main board pins and main board to googles pins ... No more bugs, calibration went fine, so far so good. So I will consider the problem solved ... I hope

Correct. The Fusion Board module is what has the firmware on it, and when you replace that, it is up to date. Only the Goggle/Glasses to the latest firmware. Not receiver. Make sure to change RF mode from RF-Normal to SteadyViewX mode. Happy flying! 😎👍

It's based according to hardware designation. If your hardware is 2.1 like mine, then no, it cannot be upgraded to v3.x firmware as it is totally different hardware running the fusion board.

Thanks. Can you simply connect the t v3.3 Fusion Board to the 2.1 module ? Unfortunately Steadyview X mode in my Cobra X v.2 is not working properly or at all.

@@Johnygoodfellow Yes, that is what I did. I just replaced the top part of my 2021 module. And SteadyView X mode will only work with the new hardware.

Agree it really should have been free with only shipping cost needing covered - personally, I think this is a combination of Skyzone stumbling for a couple years with the hardware/software that they had. With so many firmware updates, I believe they legitimately thought that they’d be able to iron it out. But absolutely sold a product still essentially “under development” like so many other companies do in FPV. Frankly, customer service in the FPV hardware space from Chinese based companies is just not what you will ever get from an American company. That was always the “risk/reward” by going with Skyzone - and in doing so, you got a built in receiver for the cost of fatsharks! In my review I loved the skyzones and still do over the fatsharks for so many reasons, but noted that if you need support you could be waiting or just SOL. I put on display here the absolute worst, but the module worked flawlessly in diversity mode for me and mix mode was 100% solid IF I had a camera that the mixer could process properly. This is why there are people who have been totally happy with the SteadyView, they have never and may never run an affected camera on their hardware version/fw. In the end, yeah it’s annoying as hell, but I’m just happy it wasn’t expensive to get the “fix” board and the addition of ELRS backpack option built in was nice too. Grand scheme of everything FPV it’s small change. Appreciate the comment though they need to hear this. I don’t think they will make this mistake again in the future. It’s been damaging to their brand, and now the steadyview has such a terrible rep that I’m not sure anyone will want to get their new external rx SteadyView-X. This has absolutely cost them tons of $$$.

V2 and V3 hardware cannot be mismatched for quadiversity. You would need to upgrade the V2 module with the fusion board.

@@WindjumbieFPV Yeah, there’s a few posts in the Skyzone FB group that have asked about this and for those who have tested it, mixing a 2.x and a 3.x module together basically just doesn’t work right. 🤷‍♂️ it makes sense since the hardware change between V2 and V3 is extremely significant, they cannot work together. Or maybe Skyzone just doesn’t care to try to make them work, idk. Note, I have not tried it myself and I’m just going off knowledge in the group that I’ve read. I’m not even sure Skyzone has documentation for this specific question anywhere, either.

Open it up and the version is written on the hardware. Or you can check hardware/software firmware. If you just bought it brand new though, they have been selling it for at least 6 months or more now I'm told.

Better late than never. You saw the worst here with my 2.3 hardware, but I pulled these models out of a host of a pile of others that were working great. In the end though everyone was right to suspect that this needed to be solved with hw and at least they didn’t give up. I know TBS fusion had a similar problem and offered an upgrade like this as well. Just glad it’s solved 100%, to not have to worry about what analog camera I come across.

This is not normal at all! If I had to do this, it would drive me insane. You have a problem with your software / hardware / firmware. Reach out to Skyzone. Your goggle’s SteadyviewX mode should be working immediately and connect to your drone’s vtx. Mine remembers everything, including the last band/channel that I use. Does it remember your band/ch or no?

To set that up you need to go in the settings I think it’s under the display settings and set it to off and it’ll start on

@John Cuppi yea I looked seems I had a v2.1 and a v3.2 module. Not sure which came with goggle and which u bought online after getting goggles (I bought 2nd module as soon as my goggles showed up. I had rolling issues at times and some other issues. But my rapid-fire was never perfect either.

3.3 ELRS Module, requires the Steadview-X mode. Don’t know why. 🤷‍♂️ RF-Normal mode, not work.

I’m not sure about o4L v2. You need to ask where you purchase it from to see if it’s a new or old batch. Then check the module version when you get it, the date/module version will be clear.

Yeah, I think this is finally it. There may be some situations to iron out that they haven't caught yet, but looks like new hardware was the answer.

I had issues with select cameras and models as you can see here, but they were a minority not a majority in my collection. I agree that since this was a hardware problem, in the end, they should have sent these out for free minus shipping costs. I believe that's what TBS did. Skyzone has said they are not making any profit from it and they are priced at BOM. IDK.

There are 3 mixing modes to choose from because they basically have different sync pulse timings. Start with mix1 and see how it behaves, if you get desyncs you can try mix2 or mix3. Everything in this video worked like a charm on mix1. Diversity mode doesn’t use any mixing at all. On older hardware though mix1/2/3 is mainly useless to resolve a lot of the desync issues that were occurring. The new hardware just mixes and functions a lot better.

@@JohnCuppi Steadyview 3.3 Fusion Board merged to receiver v.2.1, just extactly as I had been advised by Skyzone team.

The Fusion Board is the part of the receiver module that also contains the firmware. So when you replace it, you are up to date. I am not 100% sure about anything specific needed for quadiversity though. Good luck, I hope it works out well for you! Quadiversity didn’t interest me, but since this is fixed, maybe one day I’ll look into it.

@@JohnCuppi if you still predominantly fly analog it's definitely worth it. I fly quadversity with the foxeer T-Rex (in my main 5") and at times it feels close to HDZ. Only close, not trying to say analog it's as good as hdz lol. Just bought 2 fusion boards, I'll try to post a video when I get them :)

@@JohnCuppi Hey man, just got my new fusion boards and just wanna make sure i do this right. so all i have to do is keep my receiver(s) in the goggles and update the goggle firmware (or do the receiver(s)need to be taken out first?), then once the update is done i remove the receiver(s) and pry the existing fusion board away from the receiver(s). Use an exacto knife if needed to release some of the glue, plop the new fusion boards in its place and i am good to go? i dont wanna brick my goggles or either of my receivers since they are so expensive. I am really excited to get this done, i just got a Mobula 7 and i can only have it in mix mode for about 20-30 seconds before the screen starts turning grey and rolling. Have to shut off the goggles and turn them back on to fix or just switch to diversity, which isnt desirable. Appreciate you, TIA!

@@parkswreckfpv3547 When you update the goggle firmware, whether the receiver is in the goggle or not does not matter. I would personally update the goggle with the old receiver installed first. Verify that the upgrade to the goggle firmware worked and that the old receiver is still working. Then, after the goggle firmware is updated, you can pull the receiver out of the goggle and separate the old board from the new, install it, and place it back it. Please be very careful separating the old receiver fusion board, when I removed my old one I accidentally bent a pin. It didn't damage it, but it was scary.

Hi, the ELRS version requires the SteadyviewX mode. That is normal and it should work fine in that mode. As for the heat - yeah the new receiver does get a bit hotter, but I have not had any problems at all with that.

@@coolcat7682 I left my goggles on for an hour by accident already and it didn't do anything to them. Do you live in a hot climate? There may be some possible concern about performance in very hot climates but I have not seen any evidence of that.

@@coolcat7682 I am not that worried, it is designed to run hot I’m sure. One thing to remember, this module has been shipping in new goggles for 6+ months and I haven’t heard of the modules burning out or breaking. 🤷‍♂️

Good question. I didn't even know there was 3.2 hardware. I would reach out to skyzone and ask what the difference is between 3.2 and 3.3, it's possibly very significant or not at all.

He said that version 3.3 was basically perfect, but that if you don’t have any problems with rolling, or dark images on 3.2 then you don’t have to buy 3.3, there’s no need. That sort of implies that 3.2 is obviously ‘worse’ than 3.3 but it doesn’t sound significant.

You will probably not find it stocked stateside anywhere ever in the future. There just isn’t enough demand for the fusion board for stateside vendors to order a lot in bulk and stock this item. Skyzone claims they are already selling it at a small loss. So it’d also be an item which they will also make almost no profit on either, another no go for stateside vendors. My order just took a couple of weeks from Skyzone, it was not a long wait.

Hey i got my Googles yesterday and tested it now. It hast the new 3.3 hardware, but i have a Question i cant find any answer in the Internet... What does the rf modes normal, steadyview x and Race, etc. mean?

@@DiraPictures Sorry, I didn't see this for some reason, did you get this sorted? If you have the newest 3.3 hardware+ELRS, choose SteadyView X. Otherwise, choose RF-Normal.

Yeah, I had the 2021 hardware with the latest firmware on it and the tinyhawk freestyle II was the WORST. it's the camera, but it is fixed now.

@@slamonfpv Sad to say this “upgrade” is what the product should have been this whole time :( but in the end this ends up being a, much, MUCH cheaper fix than buying a rapidfire.

The new hardware has a faster, better processor. That is the actual fix, the old hardware itself was simply not good enough, and cannot be fixed with firmware.

Yeah, I know. I honestly just want to replace the entire thing, because trying to solder a ufl connector on it or stripping an antenna and soldering the 3 points is a pain in the ass. I don't fly it often enough at all to go to work on it at the moment. Whoever thought that including a vtx with no ufl connector on it was a smart idea at emax on the second go around of this quad should be smacked.

They're not dead, the voltage sensor is just a little off on some of these drones.

A lot of people did switch to rapidfire or fusion if they were crafty enough to make an adapter - but, there are also a lot of people like me that had an okay but not perfect rx and stuck with it or just flew diversity when mix didn’t work out. The new one gave me a working upgrade path that did fix the issues. It’s a shame that it took so long for Skyzone to correct this, but it is what it is.

I had very bright white flashes in diversity mode, which were unbearable. Strong headache as result.

I’ve never heard the sun was a relevant factor in the SteadyView desyncing at all. And in my personal experience, it has not been one. It did not matter whether it was overcast or not, the tinyhawk freestyle, the betafpv quad, would desync all the same. I have since flown a few packs on the affected models in sunlight, and they are not still desyncing. Even if it was not shown in this particular video. I understand the sun changes the camera shutter, but I am not convinced it is a relevant test parameter when I can easily reproduce a failed sync in overcast OR sunny conditions for them. I picked these because it was so immediately easy (with the only exception being the moblite7) to get a bad result at virtually any test time.

@@JohnCuppi more or less, some cameras are better than others, and some are almost a solid colour, but all are unflyable. I now have every module Skyzone ever made, more than 50% have some major fault. Some work well… but still nowhere close to a proper module consistency and quality wise. I can’t wait to send all this equipment back, and hate that I went out of my way to work with them, wasting my time. Skyzone is by far the worst company I have worked with.
