I realized after this video was recorded that there is a setting in Studio One under the "PREFERENCES" to enable the multi-touch where you can move multiple fader at once.

My passion for music began circa 1957. Fast forward - (a lifetime later) I am just now, making the A-D transition. I have watched D-Tech, from the sidelines for decades, having dabbled with amateur home MIDI keyboard setups c/w Fostex 450 analog mixer & Model 80 reel-to-reel tape recorder. For us oldtimers, online banter, hype and testosterone, although sometimes cool when done in good taste, tends to cloud any meaningful content. NEG/POS feedback, when posted in a constructive fashion, within any forum - is considered a major bonus and a contributor to success - at least in my book! H.R.M.E - I've got to tell you, "I'm a sincere fan of your no-nonsense style, content and professional video presentations, including the helpful comments by many of your viewers". It's Never To Late To Learn... Keep'on Rock'n :)

hi Dave, I watched your video again recently and I put my thinking hat on as to how touch technology could be improved to stop the annoying user problems that you've encountered here. It seems to me that the biggest problem is not being able to accurately touch and select what you want everytime. It's hit and miss. Here's what I would like to see implemented. A touch screen technology that can detect your fingers as they get close to the touch screen. Let's say the screen detects your fingers as they approach when they are within 5 inch of the screen. What the screen would display then is a zoomed in view directly under your fingers, let's say up to a 2 inch radius. Visually you'd be able to see what is directly below your finger. There would be 2 benefits to this. 1. You'd have a bigger zoomed in area in which to touch and select the icon that you are attempting to select. 2. touch monitors could have higher resolution without the worry of all the icons being a lot smaller. 4k looks great but imagine trying to select a tiny icon at that resolution, currently it's impossible but with this auto zoom ability we wouldn't need to be limited to 1920 X 1080p.

hi Dave, I understand one of the differences between using the mouse to move the cursor and using your finger as the cursor. When you move the mouse the old fashioned way, visually you can see the cursor move as you move the mouse. With the finger approach the monitor doesn't know where your finger is until you touch the screen. That is the reason why when you want to edit the start of each Event it nudges the Event forward on the timeline. The reason is you can't visually see the cursor change to the different icon when you hover over the section that divides the tracks from the Events. With the touch approach you are going to that area without using the mouse so you can't see the cursor change which is essentially the indicator that you are ready to perform the command you want. I think that is the major challenge that would need to be addressed with any touch enabled DAW. No monitor can track your finger movement when you're not touching the screen. Maybe the Slate software addresses this. Can you do an update video when you have Studio One v3.1 and the Presonus Batch Commander Slate software installed? I think you'll have a positive experience then.

+stupidusername38 I completely agree and yes I will be doing more videos once the Slate Raven Software is out and available. I am not sure that the software will deal with improving the touch experience but let's hope so!

Brother< Im glad to see your honest & candid Vid in your process. Very transparent & now I know Im not the only one with challenges. I dont have The RAVEN nor do I use a touch screen. I actually would Not be interested in one neither but before I seen your 4 vids on this, I seen SLATE Himself on youtube Debuting this latest technology so when I seen your actual hands on experience I just had to see what its about. Thanks Man,,Im staying "Old School"... :) Congrats on Your further development as an Artist & Audio Engineer.

Thanks Jimmy. Yea, I stay as honest as I can when I am taking about gear I use etc...I am not "in-bed" with ANY manufacture and they don't pay me to say good things about their products. As a matter of fact Slate and other manufacture of products I use don't even know I exist...LOL. Thanks for watching and I appreciate your support

Home Recording Made Easy Hi Brother. Thanks for replying and so promptly at that. Im surprised they dont know You because of Who you mixed for before man. Oh ive been catching up & i see that some of my questions are answered by my further updating to your more current status. For instance I see that You did sell the other desk & that you got your new one I seen those vids. Yea Im actually Transforming my Studio too as we speak. I know you got a new desk because of the Slate (lets say:) and then You being disappointed in it (but who could blame you? No One! I seen the Achilles heel deal with their bugged screen.) to get a new set up to get rid of the old hoping for Better and being let down can be Pretty Inconveniencing, so to have to let go of the Ol Faithful setUp to get a Diffferent Desk..BUT its A Nice desk & I hope you are Happy because You deserve it Brother. you earned it. treat yourself now & then right? :) Ok theres my lil Book for you..haha CYA Later My Freind. Cheers Adieu

Great video Dave thanks. It's hard to watch you struggle with the Raven realizing the moves you're making can be done more easily/precisely with a mouse. I'm also left wondering if down tilted position of your neck is healthy ergonomically using the Raven. What I think is interesting is you're physically a lot closer to the waveforms so you can see them more clearly. I like that you feel eventually DAWs will be designed for this kind of setup but personally I don't see it happening for a long, long time. Still I will try to keep an open mind.

I just read the latest update (version 3.0.2) on the PreSonus forums and that lock event option is not yet a thing. you and Johnny should consider writing up this as a feature request before the next update. In fact if you show them this video, that might motivate them to have that feature in the next update.
@HomeRecordingMadeEasy
@HomeRecordingMadeEasy 9 лет назад
+kjemradio I have mentioned this feature to presonus many times and have received no response to the request. I can tell you that if S1 was made with touch in mind then they missed this big time and using touch will be next to impossible with being able to lock the events on the timeline. Just my opinion

I actually just shared this video with PreSonus on Facebook a few moments ago. You can bet this is not just a Raven touch screen issue. This could easily be replicated across ALL touch screens available today. I do hope that PreSonus is NOT becoming like AVID who rarely if ever listens to their customers. That's one reason I loved PreSonus is they actually listened to people.
@HomeRecordingMadeEasy
@HomeRecordingMadeEasy 9 лет назад
I think they do listen to their users and hopefully they will add this feature soon. It sort of surprises me being that S1 was designed with multi-touch capabilities but some-how this feature was overlooked. Maybe it was not overlooked and there are reasons for not having this ability. Hey, multi-touch is new to DAW's and there are going to be some "growing-pains" and I expected this when I made the Raven purchase. I still am not disappointed with making that purchase.

Hey Dave what I was saying was you had the raven you just could've used it as just a screen only you just dis liked it that much I know you said it wasn't for you but just trying to get a better understanding why
@HomeRecordingMadeEasy
@HomeRecordingMadeEasy 7 лет назад
I understand. You are right, I could have used it for a 2nd screen but I didn't really need that. I didnt like the Raven because it was very difficult to get accurate touching on the screen when doing editing. I kept moving things out of place and things were just a mess for me. I think the issue is not so much with the raven but more about the DAW's are really not developed with touch capability in mind. I woudl tell anyone that is considering a RAVEN to go try one first if possible. Or buy it from a place like Sweetwater.com where you can return it if you decided too.
