I can never make myself sleep while the baby is sleeping, that's my time to get things done or relax by myself. It's much harder said than done, but I'm sure it makes a big difference if you can stick to it.

Shaina Squeaks I'm exactly the same it's my one moment I have to brush my hair, use the loo, catch up on food etc. I don't see when else I can do these things! I envy those who sleep whilst baby sleeps, it's impossible for me :(

My best trick is to not talk about being tired, no sleep or up all night. As soon as I start talking or even thinking about it I feel 100 times worse! I also stopped looking at the clock when getting up in the night. Knowing that i have been up at 4am makes it harder to get back to sleep then up in the morning. One of my friends tricks is that her and her husband take turns on days off to get up with the kids so the other one can have a lie in zzzzzz

My boyfriend would be horrified to know I watch these videos so young but as a non-mum with a crazy work life I still need all the help I can get! You're amazing and a total positive influence on my outlook, which is quite unique in the RU-vid world. Dear Emily as always a lovely helpful video! I just wanted to tell you how much you helped me during my second pregnancy. it was midnight and i had mild contractions and for some reason i felt very alone and scared. like i was going to die. i decided to watch a little you tube and i came across your video expectation vs reality and a few minutes later i was so cheered up it felt like i had a friend with me at that time. i had my beautiful baby boy next morning and i justed wanted to say thank you!

Hey emily nice to see you all the above tips are amazing,i have a few suggestions also if you allow me, Never have tablets, tvs, laptops in your bedroom and leave work related paperwork etc in another part if the room, try to create a calmer effect by having dim lighting, candles. Comfortable bedding like breathable cotton sheets, covers, and decent pillow and duvet and comfortable nightwear most importantly have a proper mattress to support your body time Having a quick shower to relief all stress and brushing your hair becore bedtime is a great way to relax. My grandma nearly 100 years old always suggested hot milk, turmeric and honey these relax muscles and calm the bones. Always say something positive befofe bed,my saying is ok the kids were good, didnt gey all housework etc done but still today is over and to be a better person, more productive in some areas Thanking god for having a blessed day and feeling boessed you got to share it will loved ones. Eating is very important always have set meal times no matter what your working or personal sechdule i think they say three hours before bed and try to eat light as bloating and heavy stomach is not the best way to sleep. My kids are good sleepers from 7.till 6am all thred if them they are 6+,3+,1+ abd my bedtime routine is dinner in peace 7.30 8.00 clean kitchen, put washing in,get changed and bed by 9.35 as it takes your body atleast ten min to relax completley fresh for 5.45 even before the alarm goes off. Hope some of this information is helpful and best wishes to the ones who do not have this issue and it does get better as try to stick to the same routine during naps and sleep time

The writing things down before to sleep has helped me rest better and dream less when I sleep. Dreaming bothers me so much because I cannot rest. But since I started writing down all my thoughts or ideas on paper before I sleep it tires my eyes and hand muscles and shoulder and I sleep. So much better.

Great advice! Taking power naps when you can is super helpful, you think you could get more done if you dont but in reality you end up dragging and the nap helps to rejuvinate you enough to get more done. I foumd this helpful duromg pregnancy, staying on top of house work so im not overloaded helps me to rest when I need to but not fall behind on the house work.

Your Sweater 😍😍😍 Fab video, I am a nightmare for being on my phone before bedtime, but sometimes it's the only chance I get to watch my fav RU-vidrs like yourself 😘 I find it does relax me though, as I'll put a few videos in a playlist to watch and I'm always asleep by then end. I did download a sleep stories app whilst I was pregnant as I used to find it horrendous to sleep, and would only get about 5 hours then. Also found it really useful in the early weeks where i would try and sleep during the day whilst my Son was sleeping but used to find it hard to wind down. The app was a bit of a godsend, as I never made it through to the end of the story without falling asleep 😊

Love your videos Emily! I needed this one this week! My nine month old has been up once every night this week, which isn't like her at all. Her wake ups combined with my early rises for work have made a challenging week! My additional sleep tricks are: 1. to use a sleep mask to make it nice and dark. This was great during the first few weeks with baby. I really could sleep at any time. 2. White noise, such as a fan, not only helps baby sleep, but momma too! 3. A nice hot shower in the morning to help me wake up! 4. A good concealer to cover those circles under my eyes!

I had a friend who was the first amongst our group to get married. She allowed her babies to nap often but would gently wake them up after a certain time. She did so in order to have a relatively routine schedule. It worked wonders for her as she was able to sleep on a more regular pattern. For me personally, I suffer from extremely high anxieties that feed insomnia. I have found that gentle white noise helps me fall and stay asleep. You can find Star Trek Sleeping Quarters here on RU-vid, there’s several to pick, I found the 8hr vid was perfect. I hope this helps, if not, just ignore me haha.

Agree with all these tips Emily, especially the one about going to bed early/when your young baby goes to sleep! My partners work think that it’s ridiculous that he goes to bed at 8:30 most nights but if he didn’t he wouldn’t get a decent nights sleep as he has to get up at 4:30-5 and the baby often wakes us both up during the night! My son has just turned 3 months, he was a perfect sleeper (waking up once most nights and sleeping through the rest of the time) until about a month ago and we have had to adjust to no sleep! Now he’s getting into a routine again but he’s his own little man and is just so interested in everything, he finds it hard to switch off sometimes! I love your videos and found them so helpful since becoming a first time mum ❤️

The best way (in addition to what you mentioned) is eye drops! And an early walk. I work in an office and I’m infront of my computer all day and this really helps. 10-15 min walk along with coffee and eye drops wakes me right up. Also a shower in the morning :) shower at night to wind down, I usually breast feed my baby to put him to bed, laying down and that makes me pass out since we go sleep :) thanks for the video!

All of these hacks are really sound advice and make sense. I have been dealing with sleep deprivation for a little over a year now as I didn't sleep for more than 3 hours at a time while pregnant. Now that my LO is nearly 9 months and totally has a sleep association with drinking breast milk out of a bottle (yes totally spoiled) I now only get 2 to 3 hours at a time. I am going to try to make more of an effort not to allow myself to feel so.. pitiful. I really need to wake up and start up a good routine for him. How I cope with my sleep loss is sleep when he sleeps. I try to take a shower in the morning soon as I can to wake up. I try not to think about the few hours I only got to sleep or the crazy crappy night I had. Otherwise, it follows me all day long.

Yes !!! So many good tips !!!! I’m 9 years and four kids into parenthood, and it wasn’t until my last baby was born did I know what TRUE sleep deprivation was - we are talking two hours of sleep every two to three days- and I could have used some of these ! My favorite hacks are 1) use your friends!!! Let them come sit with the baby while you nap! They love to see the new baby, and you can catch a nap without fandangling the baby in and out of the car seat lol and 2) EAT ! Real food , not take away. It’s so hard but you will feel so much better after a solid meal and a nap.

"Its almost the same thing!"..... no, no its not.... you'll find out oneday. Enjoy your freedom and appreciate that your long nights are currently not interuptted everynight, throughout the night, to physical and non-negotiable demands.

Haha No It is not, I am currently in college and I have a 8-month-old daughter and nothing could have prepared me for motherhood and I still feel overwhelmed. Can’t sleep in anymore, not even half an hour. But it’s all worth it seeing my smiling munchkin in the morning. Enjoy your days of freedom!

Good tips emily!! Definitely will try some of tips 😁 as for me, I would drink apple cider vinegar and honey mix in water first thing in the morning to lift my morning energy. After 30mins or so then i will have my breakfast smoothie. To wind down at night, I’ll on my cosy warm light, and night mode for my handphone, browse for 30mins and drink just a bottle of water before going to bed. If i really wanna a deep night sleep, I will on my oil diffuser, put in few drops of lavender essential oil and it works wonders everytime!! Even for the kids. You should try getting a diffuser Emily but only use 100 % therapeutic grade essential oils!! Sometimes in the mornings I will diffuse citrus oil and it makes the whole room so refreshing that you will be so fresh in the morning!!

Hi Emily! Absolutely love your videos I've been watching them back to back recently now that I'm getting towards the end of my pregnancy and they've been so helpful. I love the sound and look of your protein meals and breakfasts. As a younger mum (22) I'm still not open to wide range of meal ideas especially when I have my baby. Would you be able to do a video based on meals and quickly running through top breakfasts', lunches & dinners with protein and energy inc ingredients as id love some new ideas. Thank you! & again thank you for your videos they've been amazing for me as a first time mummy! Xx
