I put some of the final parts of the cowling together and get it ready for paint, we are so close!! It is amazing to see such a big race engine hidden by this cowling...we're really creating a sleeper...but who WON'T recognize Scrappy!? 😂🤠 Check out how I did my oil funnel and how strong my oil door is.

Scrappy is an invaluable airplane. I hope one day when you’re tired of flying it that it ends up in an aviation museum. @ChargedTTq

I think you don't see designing like this because of a fundamental culture difference in engineering. Even in development practice, everything is rigidly controlled. Companies seem to care about reducing development waste rather than allowing more iterative design and innovation which inherently has more risk of failure. Also, I feel there is often a big disconnect between experienced consumers and design direction. Especially with valuing experienced enthusiasts opinion over the general market.
@scottwatson5767
@scottwatson5767 3 года назад
@@ChargedTTq Very true which is why it is important for some of these engineers to intern in the actual field before being put behind the drafting table or design computer. A huge part of engineering is cost control -- optimizing for efficiency of materials and labor. What makes this plane amazing is the absurd amount of time spent on it. This plane as built would have zero commercial success because it'd be 10x the cost of the competitors, in an already small market. Doesn't make it any less awesome, just that expecting anything like this out of a typical company -- which depends on making money to exist -- would never happen.

Nice to see Scrappy actually lending a hand rather than sitting around waiting for the pizza to arrive. You're like a chest master. Your thinking seems to be 4-5 moves ahead of the work you're doing and forecasting any possible issues that may arise. It there a reason why you made the cowling door at such a slight angle to the air flow rather than just opening forward? Contours maybe? Those intake inlets look like flaring nostrils of a race horse.

Scrappy is already one fabulous airplane, and that’s without the wings... the end result will surely be mind-boggling!

Can’t wait for these “wings”! Will it be able to adjust the angle of attack!? 🤔 Slats?! Got to have slats, easy to do and cost/weight benefit ratio? Yeah. Lastly... The Bernoulli principle! How will Mike the Magician create an adjustable!? Wing?!!? Since his first video explaining some of his ideas... well, imagination is the difference between a pioneer in aviation and a pilot. I’ve racked my brain, to some extent, trying to think of how Mike will accomplish this or is it even possible. If anyone can come up with an idea that can be put into action without it sacrificing weight/performance? Mike and his “Can-do” approach can do it! I’ve been SO waiting for the tease and final rendering. Mike, has your middle name become Patent? 😂 Mike Patent Patey the Plane Patent Person Personifying Planes to Perfection! Imagine Sylvester spraying that 😂

What a cliffhanger lol. I love watching mike build a plane. Probably the most satisfying thing my ocd/ machinist/ mildly spectrum brain can see. The love poured into his work makes everything on an astounding level

Mike Patey. The man, the legend. Man! So much detail. Scrappy is looking very sweet and can't wait to see wings. Although she will probably fly without them.

Mr. Patey, I absolutely love watching your videos. I really like watching your thought process and how you are able to materialize your vision. The fact that you know something is going to be a lot of work , you still take the time to make it and what you want rather than taking a short cut. Bravo Sir, Bravo.

Wow! The engineering and dedication to detail is unreal. The amount of time you’ve got invested in this aircraft is mind boggling. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Forget the wings, I can’t wait that long, just run it around the airport.😳🙄😮😁🇨🇦

A really good TV series particularly through a pandemic will make you binge watch episode after episode. Breaking Bsd for example- just one more episode! This is like that BUT I HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE WEEK! When this is built I'm going to binge watch the build over a weekend!

If I were to go to work for Mike in his shop, I don’t think I’d even qualify to sweep the floor! There’s a lot of brain power in that building. Makes me realize how much I don’t know in the very best way possible. ✈️

A 28 minute video, and still seems like it went by super fast. As much as I love Draco this is the greatest bush plane ever built. Can’t wait to see the next video when it’s painted, and taxiing around. Then hopefully the elusive wings!

I know this is not one of the "what can we do to further aviation" videos but I have an idea I hope you see. Many flight fans just will never be able to fly but have access to flight simulators. I would think it would be a great idea to have an official Mike Patey aircraft pack. Turbulence, Draco and Scrappy ect... This would give many people the chance to fly in one of them as well as it might inspire more people to go from the sim to real world flight.
