Just saw this, but I’d definitely try to make a recording of me on something like my soprano sax… even if I’m a 22-year-old in college now, and I have to deal with the fact that Xmas music’s never played there, and concert band only happens in spring semesters anyways. :/ But hey, I’d be happy to see what other people would make. Plus, I hope to hear more energetic trumpet whinnies, rather than plaintive, complaining whinnies. XD
@@jayraygaming3147 be terrified. You have to learn and memorize insanely long music, if you had plans for Friday better cancel, you'll be at a football game running across the field. During the weekends you could spend about 5-9 hours polishing music before a competition. You will get insanely hard music, and high school teachers are way harsher than middle school, if you're in a lesson, they will not settle for just knowing how to play it, you better know how to play it correctly with correct articulation and dynamics after the first or second month of having said music. Wanna know how you'll spend your summers that used to be fun? Running around, dehydrated, with an instrument. Buuuuut all bads aside high school band is an amazing experience, you get to go to all sorts of places. I believe only those who's hearts set on music or has the full dedication can make it through high school, it's a tough process. Don't let that discourage you though, I Guarantee that if you do nothing in life but blow things high school band is for you 😁😁
@@bluejay9638 I am in high school and I am going to be completely and bluntly honest, when I was I was like, yep, yep, do that, yep good bye free weekends, and honestly it all is so true but especially the competitions I always had a blast with them so JayRayGaming I hope you stay in band because it may get harder but it gets so much more fun in high school
@@jayraygaming3147 I mean yes, they were right. But band (and marching band!!!) was by far the best experiences of my life. I wish I could do it all again. I’m in college now and unfortunately not in any of the bands but I highly consider it. My last couple of years of high school were online because of the pandemic so I really missed out on these special moments. Even though it can be tough sometimes, I promise you won’t regret it
@@bluejay9638 really? Band in high school is hard but not at all as hard as you say. Honestly, I barely practice and I’m still pretty good at the instrument and do well at competitions. That’s what most people are like here. I go to a private school so idk if that’s why it’s easier
wasn't sure what to expect....but it was pretty good!! and i love that the trumpet player ACTUALLY HOLDS THE INSTRUMENT UP instead of to the floor like 75% of them do....I'm sure your ears don't like it though!! lol
@@pearbear. yeah everyone in beginning just screeches their lower notes as trumpets. Later we actually get better and don’t just blare and deafen everyone lmao
Couple squeaks but overall, they stayed together and had amazing articulations. The time signatures in this song are hard to get used to and I’m quite impressed
Love how the girl on the left looked into the camera during the jazz part lmao what a mood. Also, I am absolutely envious of your intonation and blending. Us clarinets and flutes struggled with that on this piece.
@@queenemmers still just like the rest of the song. only difference is thats a more intense part of the song. any jazz musician can feel when something is jazz or not. its a feeling
As a young clarinet player I love seeing older clarinets playing so I can learn from them to get better. Since half my family are clarinets I learn from all them now I have 3 first chairs in 3 honor bands. By the way, the way yall played the high notes were amazing with no squeaks.🤯
I love how there are so many sleigh ride videos on RU-vid that are getting recommended to me now. I seen so many people in the comments who all have played this. Sleigh ride is just that universal piece most people play in school band at least once, myself included
my guilty confession for the day: I was second chair clarinet my senior year and I could barely play the beginning of first part for sleigh ride 😖 practiced so much and still couldn't hit those high notes that fast....the shame haunts me to this day
As an ex-clarinet player in high school band I am extremely impressed (and jealous!) of your intonation and articulation. My friend and I used to call this song the “Death Ride” because we couldn’t really play it until our junior year. Only clarinet players truly understand how agonizing yet beautiful this song is to play!
as a junior high clarinetist, i am very intimidated by the super high notes (anything higher than high c, the one with just the thumb and the register key)
Don’t be!! Just think of them as just any regular notes on the clarinet ☺️ I used to struggle with that in middle school as well though, so it’s totally normal haha
Sometimes it’s not all just about playing every note, but also about having fun and I could tell you were enjoying yourself here. Great job, there’s a bright future for you as a clarinetist!
That was surprisingly well played. I assume this is high school. It is more typical to hear intonation problems or articulation problems, usually both. This was a pretty darn clean performance. I myself started with clarinet (well, after piano). But then switched to bassoon which is an entirely different experience. Then to brass. French horn, and then fully to the dark side - trumpet. Strange, I know, but I had always also played around on the trumpet as sort of a hobby from the beginning even though I principally played something else. I recommend that young musicians try other instruments - they may find one that better suits them.
Maybe I'll play another instrument besides the trumpet but since I've only had 3 years of experience with the trumpet I'll most likely work more on that and then go into different instrument maybe even the alto sax
I love how each instrument POV has different things behind them. Like low brass has either curtains or percussion, percussion has curtains, clarinets have trumpets, flutes have clarinets, it's so interesting.
Great work. I'm impressed. This brings me back to 9th-grade band in 2005 during the Christmas season when I was playing the clarinet. We played this song (I believe the exact same arrangement because a lot of it sounds very familiar). Good times...
Very nice!! Hard to hear over the trumpet at the beginning but, still amazing job. Im glad im starting to see perspectives other than trombone and trumpet now 😂.
Omg, I remember playing this in my school band when I was in year 9 😂 Unfortunately, I remember this part too well 😭 Love it keep going guys 🤙 I miss all of this because unfortunately, covid has hit hard in the uk😭
You girls played this really well! The clarinet part is pretty difficult. I remember I had to spend a couple weeks every day to even get the altissimo out.
the trumpet in the back is an amazing trumpeter. she has very good lips to make the notes sound very good and clear which i like. im a trumpet player to and i have to say im so impressed by her skills in the trumpet
You guys did great! I also play the clarinet, but sadly I'm struggling to play certain notes, but its amazing to hear you play! You sound cool and I hope you keep up the good work!
I feel like it’s every high school band players requirement to play this song at least once. I played alto saxophone and some of those high notes we had to hit were insane! Especially high E
My high school band director had us sightread this just before the Christmas/Hanukkah break at school. Safe to say it didn’t go well and I’m 1st Clarinet (I’m a junior 😵💫😵💫) you guys KILLED it!
this made me miss band :((( half of my junior and my entire senior year was completely online so I missed out on my last moments like this. anyway y’all are great and I love how you play with your whole body haha!! I used to do that too (tuba and trombone player!)
Early on I had my volume turned down enough that I could just hear you guys in the video, and I thought we were going to get the whole thing with just two parts!
