It seems like a lot of American men seem almost afraid of "skinny fit" jeans, and just completely dismiss them without even looking. In Europe, at least in the UK, almost all younger men wear skinny jeans, and yes, some take it too far and might as well buy from the women's section lol.
a lot do buy them from the womens section and are very proud of it as well. I am one of those people who think people should wear what suits their body type best, and the jegging style of womens jeans, in my opinion looks terrible on 100% of guys, but some guys seems to think it looks good, just luckily I never see them in public.
I think that has to do with the fact that there's some misleading information about them. Most people think of skinny jeans and picture the ones that cut your circulation or look painted on like women tights. There are skinny jeans that I think of as "slim" and they look like the "skinny" jean showcased in the video. While the "slim" he showcased looks to me like a "straight". So to some they think skinny means painted on and straight means normal. To those people they'll never even consider "slim or skinny" jeans (that aren't painted on).
But that almost applies to all clothes in general a lot of Americans wear clothes that are a little bit more loose while in most countries in Europe people tend to wear clothes that are a little more tight to the body. I live in the Netherlands and a lot of boys wear skinny jeans
I've worn baggy jeans my whole life, partly because I grew up poor, but I switched to Wrangler slim yesterday. I'm a big guy. 5'8" 210lbs with genetically muscular legs. I got them as part of like a "makeover" because I lost 18lbs. And my God, they're awesome!
Same here I never understood jeans and which ones I should were. Im 5'7 190 pounds with muscular legs and arms mostly cause of lifting. But the point is I always dodged buying jeans because of this reason but after watching this video I can go and buy confidentiality now knowing what im looking for.
This one's the only men's fashion channel I've been to that actually takes the time to really make a point talking about what the labels on the jeans mean. Nice job. Perfect!
Exactly and everything I wanted to say! This is my thumb rule now having tried out quite a few pairs of both chinos and jeans: if trying a new brand or fit, go to the size guide of the particular item and compare those measurements to the best fitting bottoms you have. Also, being modest men, most of us know our basic measurements (waist, thigh, knee, ankle opening etc.) given that we need to get our clothes tailored often, so compare those measurements. That gives a pretty good idea of how you can expect the new pairs to fit. Ankle opening has actually been a good indicator for me in the past. Great content and delivery again, Brock!
Skinny jeans are an awesome option for young and skinny man just like me! I always go for skinny jeans because slim fit will look baggy on me. You however have to stay away from spray on jeans because they will make your legs look like sticks! I liked the video, keep up the great work Brock.
I like skinny jeans on guys but they have to look like they're comfortable! There's nothing more painful than seeing a guy with pants so tight he can't move 🙈
True, but funny how that same thing doesn't apply to women. Then again, women's jeans have had stretch built in for years. Guys' jeans are just catching up.
Great points here: wear what works for your body type and style. Brands do vary a lot so be smart, and I'd add the following: try on multiple pairs to average out cutting inconsistency and as always get it tailored! I've tried all kinds of brands and fits and usually just go back to my good old Levi 511's and get them tapered and hemmed. Usually ends up being $70-80 all in, which is as much as higher end brands off the rack but fitted to my body and exact desires.
I personally always wear slim or skinny jeans but I prefer skinny for my body type. I 100% agree that it depends on the cut of the brand and how you like a certain brand rather than the style.
I think skinny jeans on guys best only on even body proportions between upper and lower body. If have bigger upper body than legs they will make legs look even skinnier. If legs bigger more muscly than upper body they will make them look even bigger. They exagerate uneven proportions. If blessed with an even upper and lower body they suit well. Possible option for guys with bigger upper body than legs would be to cuff the skinny jeans to widen ankles. Slim fit always much safer option and flatters more body shapes. Upto individuals personal opinions likes anyway just my two cents worth.
Thanks for posting this. I am a guy almost 40 and its hard to keep up with modern trends these days when buying new jeans. There is always that worry about how they look and what people think when you are in public or what stigma is attached.
That's why you don't bother keeping up with modern trends. Instead go for the ones that are neutral or are and will be timeless with no date on them. Straight/relaxed fit and the slim fit are these types of timeless fits.
I think you are right about brands are trying to keep up about 'skinny jeans', because I usually buy skinny jeans in 32/32 and they fit me perfectly, however once I tried another jeans brand with the size of 32/32 and they were really loose to me but the thing was this time my jeans weren't skinny they were 'really skinny', and whenever I wore them they were really baggy, which now means that it is true about brands are just trying to keep up with 'fashion.
Great video. I'm a small guy but a conundrum in my measurements. 5'4", 160-165 usually, 32 inch waist but 29 inch inseam. For most of my life, 32 x 30 has been my go to, and dad-life found me comfortable with relaxed fit, loose fit and bootcut, resulting in so much fabric around my ankles. Recently getting back into shape, dropping some weight, I decided to give slim fit a try, one pair from Old Navy and the other Goodfellow & Co. I got a few looks, got asked if I was trying to be a teenager again, but overall I felt good because I liked the way they looked on me. Thank God they had a little stretch to them, because my quads were feeling it. Skinny might be too much but slim is good for me.
Great video, Brock! Your conclusion was spot on and I couldn't agree more on disregarding the "type" of jean and just focusing on what fits and feels comfortable on your body.
Great video, Brock! I couldn't agree more with everything you said. Labels mean nothing--it's how a pair of jeans fits you that matters most. I have had the best luck with Old Navy skinny built-in flex jeans. These are 99% cotton and 1% spandex. They're called skinny, but they're really more of a slim fit that sits on the waist with a medium rise. The legs are tapered down to the ankles with a narrower opening than traditional slim fits. It's a good choice for guys who are slim but not too skinny (that is, normal/average weight for their height with thinner legs like me) and who want jeans that are not baggy at all. They are comfortable, inexpensive, and very durable.
One of the best video who explained the difference. I was really confused cuz when i was shopping online there was slim fit one and skinny one which almost look same .
Dear all. I regularly wear Levi's jeans. There are several options 1% elastane 99% cotton , 2% elastane 98% cotton and cotton + polyster + elastane 2%. Kindly suggest which one is having the maximum life? The feel of wearing a jeans should not degrade
I like your tips more than other channels do. They're more open to preference and not forcing men to think the way they do and follow their trend. You should keep making these videos, because they help men more into thinking about fashion and style rather than forcing them to wear these, or not to wear these :D
for real this is so true. I get my pants primarily at American eagle and their skinny fit looks like a slim fit on me. when I put on the slim fit I look like I'm swimming in fabric, especially around the ankles because I need the smallest leg opening possible
For all you people out their that greatly denounce the definition of a “skinny jean”, they are skin tight at the ankle, and are fitted with stretchy fabric much like jeggings. They are tight everywhere, a tapered jean has a comfortable amount of space above the knee, however they get drastically tighter below the knee. Making the leg openings skin tight, much like the skinny jeans
I fluctuate between the skinny and slim. You're right. It varies amongst brands. I love me some Levi's skinny fit jeans. For my slender body type , they look great.
Being an older gentleman Lol, I like baggy (comfortable) jeans like the old days. I lift weights pretty heavy for my age and ride my bike a lot (thick legs). Skinny jeans are so uncomfortable even with the stretchy material. Hopefully, the pendulum swings back to baggy. Skinny jeans are so uncomfortable + my ass bulges out and Mr. Happy too. Levi's baggy, black label were the best. My most comfortable jeans for over 20 years and I still have one from back in the day and still no holes even though that's the style-church jeans- holy. Lol
shinrips I feel like the reason why you don’t like skinny jeans is because you are a bigger man. I am pretty skinny and skinny jeans look just like normal jeans to me while slim straight look like I’m wearing my brothers clothing
Omg..your height and waist are similar to me.. I'm also 5,7. And waist 31/32 i will definitely follow your style...cause i know whatever you are wearing or the way you style i think it will look good on me also...great video.....thanks from India
Thanks. I bought a pair of 'slim' slacks without trying them on and was surprised how form fitting they were once I got them home. I'm a 'young' senior citizen. Twenty-somethings would probably have loved these slacks because they are comfortable to walk about in. Just a bit too revealing in the crotch area for my taste when seated. At least now I know what makes slim different from skinny--primarily thigh, calf, ankle area. Brands varying. Thx
He's right that u should wear something that fits and looks good on you. However, as far as brand you should stick to Levis in a slim or straight style, not skinny and not boot cut unless you're going to be attending a rodeo. If you go with a brand of jean that has an insignia different from the Levis one, you will either be thought of as cheap (if the insignia is from a cheap brand) or if you picked an expensive brand, people will think you're obsessed with looking affluent. So stick to Levis with the normal stitching on the back pockets (the cheap version that has different stitching, don't touch that either).
Americans prefer slim fit but in UK and Ireland every young person including myself wear skinny jeans and some peoples skinny jeans are so skinny that its literally spray on lol. brands like 11 degrees, Gym king and sik silk is literally unbelivably skinny
Its all about age and where you’re from. I grew up poor and dressed hip hop style of the late 90’s baggy pants. Now in my late 30’s I wear a slim fit. To me they are nice and fitted but Im sure to those that wear Skinnys would probably think they are baggy but coming from the style I had as a youngster, I could never go full skinny.
Also consider the taper to the bottom is different between a 30 inseam and a 27 inseam for the same fit. It's about the right fit for the right body. I would not have a heavier set guy wear skinny fits, or anything that aggressive. Wear the fit that creates the most balance.
If you wear slim fit & wanna possibly see if you can fit into skinny jeans size up 2 sizes from waist so they fit comfortable from thigh down to knee then rly nice & tapered at the bottom ;)
I am 34 years old and I have had some past battles with 20 extra pounds that in the past have made all the difference in the world as far as what Jeans I could wear. As far as these days goes, I am a solid and consistent 5 Ft 11 and roughly 170-173 pounds and I not only wear slim fit or skinny fit jeans, but I routinely order 300$ worth of designer (usually Buffalo) skinny or slim fit jeans and then return any that are not form fitting from the crotch to the ankle. I will admit though, skinny jeans can have their complications if you have a lot of junk to stuff. I work in an office full of 30 women and I have to wear sport briefs to properly channel the beast down one of my thighs, whenever I experience one of those random guy things LOL
I am no against skinny jeans but most of the time I find myself going for slim fit but I love skinny jean. Nice polo shirt by the way. Where did you get it from?
I’ve worn skinny jeans since I was in high school and I love them. Jeans that are not skinny are really not good for me. That’s coz I am super skinny and look like I’m being swamped in looser jeans.
brock, how about putting it this way...if the jeans guys wear show ppl the exact shape of their legs, especially the calves, like as tho wearing tights, then that is disgusting imo. we like to see a body (leg) hugging jeans on a chick, but not sure they feel the same way about us...so, you are somewhat right in saying that our frame kinda determines what we should wear too! cheers mate!
I noticed another categorization that people make regarding the fit of jeans people wear. My more conservative family members argue that slimmer or tighter fitting clothes is for "gay people" (no offense intended, just a quote) and it bothers me to no end.
That's definitely a popular "belief" among some people. It's ridiculous, of course, and I think it's more projection than anything else - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projection
Eddie Palomares yea ive tried on the skinny jeans at old Navy and they look nice.. but I'm 5'10 155 31x32 I like the Hollister jeans "epic flex" and "super skinny" jeans are a great fit. And priced well when on sale. Just try them !
I am 59 . I wear Levi skinny jeans . They fit just right . I love the cut . Remember it's the fit . I take mine in to get taken up to a quarter break .
i have levis 512 as skinny jeans.511 as slim fit jeans. Then I compare them to H&M jeans my 512 levis skinny jeans is like a slim fit of the h&m jeans.H&M skinny jeans are tighter compare to 512 levis skinny jeans.i like the cut better of the H&M jeans.I even tapered my levis 511 slim jeans and copy the cut of my h&m skinny jeans. And it is not true that tightness of skinny jeans might affect your leg circulation.the are super stretchy and comfortable now compared before that skinny jeans are not stretchy.it also easy to wash and dry because it does not occupy a lot of space compare to baggy pants.I have 3 levis skinny jeans. Two of them were bought just this year and they are super stretchy and comfortable. The other 512 that i bought 3 years ago when skinny is not yet popular is not stretchy and comfortable at all. That is the one that can damage my lower circulation.Meaning after years of making skinny jeans for men they finally realize to change the fabric and material of the jeans. You can now compare the fabric to the female jeans. That is the reason why now a days we can now use the female jeans because the difference right now is only the pockets
I get your point, but you are also missing a point. The ‘skinny’ jeans that you are wearing clearly are not ‘skinny’ on your body. They look slim, which is good. When people rail against skinny jeans or skinny in general, they are talking about the look. When you showed the images of ‘skinny’ jeans that look slim, that is not what people are opposed to. The images that show the jeans literally rapped around peoples legs like spandex, that is clearly what opponents of skinny object to. It’s what you object to yourself. Myself, when I see the skin tight look, I cringe very hard. I exclaim aloud, ‘That isn’t right!’ So we all agree. (Edit: I checked out the ‘RMLS’ that you may have been responding to. He addressed your point in the first minute.)
Skinny is the best for me.The slim fit is still to baggy for me.once you fold the skinny jeans you do not need to pin roll it.Just watch out because there is such jeans that super skinny on the tag. Those are almost the spray on jeans,it is like wearing a stockings bacause it really define the shape of your thigh and leg. Those are apropriate to person who is real skinny or muscular person.
Thanls for this video, i got some slim fit stretch jeans today and i love it, i might get size 32 next time though because iv got size 38 since im a skinny person, i always hated wearing denim regulars because they dont suit my body, but i dont wanna get skinny jeans because i just wanna try the slim fit one for now,
