You're legit a lawn care encyclopedia. I didn't realize all the different ways slow release breaks down. Crazy. Great info.

Great Video Matt, I have a pondering question.. if you take a sprayable coated granule like Lesco NOS 46-0-0 and you dissolve it and spray it, have you now just released the Kraken so to speak and turned it into a "regular" urea which will uptake fast, or does the coating get mixed into the soup so to speak and re-bond to the urea when sprayed?

Thanks Matt, can't wait to start. Went to all three fertilizer distributors last week to check on prices. Getting excited. Maybe next weekend.

Video request> how does using RGS or humic products in conjunction with fertilizer help extend the release of nitrogen in the fertilizer?

I'm going to be running RGS this season and am looking to lower my N out put. I'm having a tuff time finding a fert that I can put out at .5lbs on N per K (everything at site one seems to be gauged at at a 1 lb of N per K.) Due to SGN size of the prills.

Uhhhhh sooo what's the best lol...... For short and long term..... So how long dose it take for the plant to eat it up one week. Or 2 weeks lol.... So the coatings suck???? I just like useing natural stuff seaweed etc....so what's the best long term for deep green grass to dominate the neiborhood....

CC CC Seaweed does not have enough nitrogen (It's a good supplement, just not a good NPK source). If you want a good organic NPK fertilizer, he has a vid on milorganite. Chicken manure and soy meal are even more balanced, since they have some potassium (milorganite has none). They are also more pricey, but still very reasonable for someone with a suburban lawn (I can get 5-4-3 chicken manure for $13 per 50 lbs sack).

For cool season lawns, as a pro, do you stop dropping fertilizer at some point before the hottest part of summer? If so, how far ahead of time? I understand this is necessary to prevent stressing a lawn. On the other hand, maybe its possible to micro-dose (@1/4lb N/k) through the summer every few weeks **as long as the yard is kept watered and doesn't dry out**? I assume the pro's like yourself suspend N applications from June-Sep, but maybe I'm wrong.

I may throw a little N out with my Fungicides, but it's much lower than 1/4lb. Usually 1/16 or less. The goal isn't driving growth but maintaining. So this year, I'm going .5lbs N, .4lbs N maybe, 1/4lb all summer, 1lb at seeding, 1/2 lb after seeding

After adding my fast release fertilizer do you recommend putting down a PGR to enhance root depth, and to avoid cutting every 2 days...or should I wait till the hotter days of summer and throw down a slow release and PGR? Thanks
@TheGrassFactor
@TheGrassFactor 6 лет назад
Either or, works the same. Usually I fert and PGR at the same time. Faster slow release is your preference. Continue high mowing frequency. Induces less stress in plant.
