A friend of mine owns electrical retail shop on the high street. He currently has it running on four large TVs in the main window and it is awesome! People are walking by and getting half way past the shop then just stopping in their tracks, frozen. There must be forty out there right now. Things like this should be shown on big screens in Time Square or Piccadilly London. I am sure it will help to re-focus everyone's stress levels and make you appreciate the now and not worry about the tomorrow. Thanks guys and girls xx
The thing I thought is sound travels a lot further over water than land, the only difference should be the volume as you get closer to shore. Had the same experience in a number of country's on night guard next to water, but in my case the sound was coming from the water. eerie at times...
Hello sv delos, my dad and I are planning to sail around the world next summer, just like you guys I am young . Unfortunately I was in a bad motorcycle crash two days ago on my zx12r and had surgery because I was crushed by it,... and what keep me going was your videos, even tho I am broken I am still motivated to sail next summer .and would love to see u guys next season when we sail...
I just got some work on my car done. This morning I’m driving and I hear this squeaking sound. After five minutes of thinking of all the things that could be causing this problem (loose belt?!?) I realize that my car started auto playing this video and I was hearing the sounds of crickets!!! Shew!
I've watch an hour so far and the "crickets" are always the same volume no matter how near or far Delos is from the shore line. Does Delos have crickets living on board or is that actually a different sound that we are hearing? Maybe Delos's motor has a loose belt. ? ? ?
Yeah, well the audio was the GoPro wasn't anything but wind noise so we recorded the audio at anchor later on that afternoon. Probably why it sounds constant all the time. Lesson learned, thanks for the feedback. Brian
If possible, you should do more of these.. during passages, at anchor with quiet, zen times; no voice overs, no story telling but for the sights and sounds. So great!
A few months ago, after the Technomadia couple ran into a storm submerged piling, they had to be towed way up the Miami River to a yard for extensive repairs. That hour+ long tow, just a relaxed, camera locked forward facing view starting from Biscayne Bay and up through and beyond downtown Miami, is as relaxing as any boating related video we've ever seen. We often loop it on one of the large spare monitors in the Code Pit (a lounge area where our coders swap ideas and solutions). You just can't be stressed out while watching that video. We test ran this new Delos up the river video and it's getting even better reviews. It's *that* good. It's like video Xanax. Thanks for the effort. Feel free to do more...:-).
Love it! But what I've always wanted is to see the same thing on an ocean crossing passage. The sound of the waves and the wind in the sails, creaking blocks and ropes... So relaxing and sadly the closest I will probably ever come to experiencing an ocean voyage! Love your channel, followed you for years! Keep up the good work and god bless you all xx
so I put on the latest episode and went to bed....then woke up to this episode and it had been running for about an hour...I recall having the most wonderful dream just before I woke up and then layed in my bed just watching and listening before the lure of the french press took over...these are AWESOME guys!!!!!!! Kudos to this idea!!!!!!!!
I like this video. It shows the tranquility of being on a sailboat. It doesn't always have to be about partying and drinking. It's also about peace of mind and giving each other the space although be it in a small confined area to be alone with your own private thoughts. I really love following your videos they always set my mind at ease. God protect you all and bless you. Thank you so much for sharing a lifestyle that is out of reach for the moment for some of us. I really felt like I was on Delos along for the ride. Absolutely incredible.
I'm a happy guinea p. I've been aboard now for 27.35 and loving it. Cool fact: I'm in the sun room "casual office" [42 inch stereo monitor with base woofer and surround sound plugged in] sitting @ the 1936 white oak desk as it is picking up that sweet engine rumble vibration and transmitting it to me through the wooden floor. THIS feels real! I'm happily pulled right into the Tautman Bros experience. I like my restful vantage point. Im eating my grilled ham and swiss on 12 grain [while you two munch on your morning snack] The sun's early rays now light up the tiny wake to star board. Relaxing beauty!! The speeding ticket I got this morning is now a faded and more acceptable memory. A Delos ride is great therapy. Thanks.
I clicked on this and went to make a cup of coffee. I figured the it would play through the intro and I wouldn't miss anything:) I sat down and started drinking my coffee. I thought for a moment my laptop had frozen. Try this on a night sail when the breeze is steady but the seas are calm and the sky is clear with a bright moon shinning. Nothing but the sound of the boat cutting through the water. No engine, no music, no talking. Just the helmsman/person on deck. You know what I am talking about. If that doesn't turn you on to sailing nothing will.
I am at work with this window in the background and I am just listening to the low hum of the engine and the glorious sounds emanating from the jungle. Amazing! Thank you!
HOLY COW!! I just had the wildest dream... Alright so I got home after a 13 hour or so work day, I put the post on my tv in the bedroom I began watching the video listening to the jungle sounds of the beautiful surrounding and fell asleep. The dream was that I won the lottery somehow convinced you guys that I would like to take a few trips on Delos with you and give you half a million for your trouble to allow me on board it was awesome, then as I began to wake up I was still traveling on the boat cuz the video was still playing it was great.. Great, Great...
Please keep making good videos, laying in the hospital bed in pain after surgery, you guys made it easier to forget about my motorcycle accident and surgery ......Ty keep up good work , jeanpierre
When i watch this i can't help but think of all the amazing places Delos has travelled and what we see on the surface is only a fraction of what has passed beneath her hull...what an amazing capable sailing vessel...thanks for sharing your videos are amazing!
Ive been watching this all morning while writing a leadership training class. Love the serenity of the boat movement and the sense of belonging and the background voices heard every now and then.
I used to do this a lot back in the day. Glad it is being discovered again. A good microphone to use is a surround sound type. They have a large capture area compared to a directional microphone. The video should be synced to the audio so it go's together. The steadiness of the video (mounted camera) gives the viewer a good feel for what it is actually like to be there with all the sounds and sights. Glad you did this. Put a camera atop the mast for a birds nest's view of the passing items. Thanks for the videos.
Best three hours and 40 minutes of my week! ... Except The Wife’s Sunday morning .. Ohhhh ... hello, how are you! Lol .. Beautiful... love the sound of the jungle and water, I’m sure every sailor was watching the current. Surprised how little you move around the boat. Thanks Bri. Take care mate, J.
This is awesome. Put more of these out for sure. Show us everything, crossings short and long, sitting at beautiful anchorages, ect. We can all feel like we are with you on the boat. Love this slow TV concept.
I am only 15 minutes in and I wanted to pause to write -- it's great! As a long time watcher of your videos, and a want to be sailor, the feeling of this video is like a webcam, but a lot more because of the already established relationship your viewers have with you all. It's just really cool. I know it took a ton of loading time, cannot imagine given the connection speeds you all work with, and so thank you for doing this. Keep putting these out if you can. Hopefully, sans editing, they are a lot easier for you all and just really cool.
I am a slow TV viewer .They have a channel with trains around the world. It gives you a real view of the countryside. This jungle cruise is the ultimate especially including the sound. Thanks for making this great video ! I would like to see one showing you's in rough seas like the time around Madagascar. Fair winds guys/girls .Cheers
I didn't have a chance to look at the screen very much. But, the sounds of the water and the occasional murmuring of familiar voices kept me company while I cut down and manicured for drying my last two cannabis plants of the season. Wish I could share. BOUNTY, is the word. There is a bounty. In California Alta. ;-)
Thanks for slowing it down for us mere mortals! Looking forward to future long term experience videos from you guys. Thanks for sharing your journey Delos.
This truly is the best thing since sliced bread! A really nice change of pace from the usual action packed Delos episodes. This really makes me miss the times when grandpa had a sailing boat.
We found this video fascinating. Most videos are concentrated on a thrill a minute, disaster, or calamity. The use of ambient sound was awesome, no intrusive blasting musak background. We liked the feeling of "being there." Please produce more of these type videos (find a way to provide an external power source for the Go-Pros). Dave & Linda M/S Olivebank
I was thinking the same thing about an external bat for the Go-Pros. The signs of the batteries going dead appear to be "jumps" in the video to very different scenes. That involves the river banks instantly changing along with the sky/clouds. Two Go-Pros at each location could also overcome this problem. Still, a great job! A first try at a new concept is rarely perfect.
I have a friend that does nature sound recordings professionally like ocean waves, rainfall, wind in the forest, etc. He also did a 24 hours recording to highlight the different noises at certain times of the day in our rainforest. I think this is a good idea just for the different creature sounds in the jungle. BTW, these types of natural sounds (without human voices) does wonders for children with Autism who have a difficult time relaxing or sleeping. Many parents swear by these recordings. Well done, You guys are always doing such cool things.
Format has been in use in N. European countries (Norway, Finland, Sweden, etc.) for many years: Trains, etc. Your film is very immersive and relaxing. Thanks.
In the hour I've watched so far, I've found the experience to be oddly fascinating. The small stray mixing currents that you can see in the river, the slowly changing clouds in the sky, . . . The bow perspective drew me in. As a bird and animal lover I was keeping an eye out for a flying or walking critter. So far I haven't seen any birds, which seems odd. But I've still got 2 hours 40 min to go. I've also realized how distracting human beings can be! lol. Scott
After seeing the whole video I can now say that I saw quite a few birds. But I'm wondering did you guys on Delos see any local wildlife along the shore line? I'm thinking of the local version of deer or something along those lines. I tried to keep an eye out for them but didn't see anything moving in the small sections of seemingly non-forested sections of shore line. I did see one animal(?) in the river that seemed to move dynamically on the surface then submerge leaving a noticeable wake behind. In the US this may have been an otter or a muskrat.
Really enjoyed it ..makes huge difference if you listen with earphones! Not sure if this was just stereo recording or proper binaural recording. Sounds like normal stereo, so maybe experiment with binaural recording to increase immersion. Thank you in any case for great content.
Completely wonderful, relaxing and beautiful. Also great sleep, relaxing sounds. Something else I have always enjoyed while sailing is the sounds of the halyards clanking against the mast and the sound of the boat crashing thru the waves...quite wonderful to put you to sleep. Wonderful experience listening to this today. Thank you. Your videos are my lifeline to continued sailing adventures since my mate is gone and I am getting old. Fair winds to all.
Absolutely brilliant, a fantastic sense of `the real` watching this. With a little luck I`ll be living on the oceans myself about this time next year and this is a really powerful reminder of how incredible this life choice can be. Fabulous job getting this together, I`ll be watching it (lights out and a beer) yet again this evening! Thanks to all!
I love the idea of capturing the ambiance surrounding you. Gives us a more 'in-between' episodes look at how time passes for you guys! Sure wish I could join you! Great idea! Would love some more 'Slow TV' in between your regular episodes, and I'm sure it is less time intensive to edit. Win - Win!
So peaseful and calm,,,, I think I'd be at the highest point of the mast I could be to see everything !¡!!! This video is just awesome and so relaxing !!!!¡¡!! Love u guys !!!!!!!!!
I saw this posted last night and decided to watch first thing this morning knowing full well that Delos had just posted a video early Friday, I wasn't expecting much. I'm mesmerized within five minutes. My God this is tranquil. Delos tribe you've once again struck a cord! I think the holiday fireplace video has just been replaced.
If you liked the first 5 min then ......................................................................................... ..................... ........................... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
A very interesting experiment and a very enjoyable one at that. I work from home and typically play some background music for white noise. This time I placed this video on my 3rd monitor and it was very refreshing to be able to glance at it from time to time and see the scenery. I still wondered if it would have been better to hear the audio in realtime vs. prerecorded. Thank you for sharing and I'm happy to be a "guinea pig" for this project.
Thank you for this beautiful video! I spent 3 years working in Guiana at the space center and spent whatever spare time I had hiking the rain forest or taking my kayak up the amazing jungle rivers. I have many hours of gopro footage but they are more shaky than yours! ;-) My favorite sailing crew in the most beautiful country I have ever seen! Hell yeah! I'll have a beer on that and actually just bought you some, too! I would appreciate videos like this every now and then! Cheers
This is a great video for people who like something on tv when they fall asleep or want something on tv to passively watch during work! What a great idea :)
I like this! Partying is fun, Sightseeing is cool but this is Unique. It actually show the process not to mention boat handling etc etc... You guy's should definitely do this when you out open ocean sailing, especially when you know your going to be doing alot of sail changes, that would be fascinating if not educational! Again, Excellent Idea!
41 minutes in and I love it. I live by a highway (not far from Avalon Park btw) and all I hear at night is cars blasting by so I usually just put the TV on with music. I much prefer this as white noise. We want to do exactly this in 2 years when our son graduates, but on a trawler cuz we are older. Great idea and please do one with sunrise and set when you do the ones out at sea.
Just like the Mekong River.....except no one is shooting at you. Spooky reliving that feeling of being a sitting duck. Hours and hours of patrolling with the engines off. I find myself waiting for the sounds of incoming fire. Maybe I shouldn't watch this one.
Almost fell asleep on this one. Reminds me of those long trips down the bayou whenever we headed out to the gulf. At one point you lose sight of civilization and find yourself alone with nature. Just a camp here and there with nobody home.
Wow, I could not help but find myself mesmerized by the thousands of crickets surrounded by a trickling stream over rocks.! I eyes strained of abandonment to the lack of wildlife along the rive bank, and the wishful thinking that maybe, just maybe I might even see a bird. I did see a man go past in motorize canoe, and I did see a bug. This seem to surreal with wonder of what may lay ahead, and the anticipation of what might be around the next bend. I know that the giant anacondas in the area are notoriously intelligent, and that the creature from the black lagoon was never recovered. If only I could see some signs of life.Wait a minute, did we not pass that same outcrop of trees before. Stop it, just stop think so much ! If only I could get those crickets out of my head. I wonder if we took the wrong turn somewhere. Oh no....! This can't be the twilight zone.! ...Well can it ? Oh look, over there, I just seen some birds. Oh good, maybe I'm not dead after all !.
As a keyboard sailor I really enjoyed being able to watch this as it gave me a real perspective of how it truly is to sail. I appreciate your willingness to experiment and thanks for the awesome video. Also, I could probably fall asleep to this ...hahah
This is great guys. Playing in the background. The sounds are great but I bet the natural sounds of you sailing too would be just as good. Agreed with some comments the crickets seemed to dominate. You guys always do an amazing job with sound so I'm sure you'll figure it out.
Saturday morning, having this on a big screen in my bedroom, just seen your last nice video from Tobago but this is so relaxing. I will not leave the bed! You should sell this as some sort of 'Mental screensaver' Please make some more! Sweden right now is autumn / overcast and +7 C so the tropical pictures helps! :-) Best wishes! //PO
Haven't watched most of it yet, but it feels as if I'm aboard. Love all the jungle sounds and the occasional movements by one of the crew. Very relaxing and so different from the little snippets we normally see.
I love being a 'stowaway' on your many adventures... :) and when I get my finances sorted, would love to shout you all a few drinks.Unfortunately I recently suffered a stroke and adapting to the change in lifestyle and minimal 'disability pension' doesn't afford me much disposable income...cheers crew of SV Delos for these 20 or so minutes of escapism, you all rock!
Absolutely loved this vid. Sound effects weren't that good, kinda off-putting. The video itself was brilliant in that it brought us there into your time/space. Wish you could do this more often, especially at sea under sail. Good job BoB :)
Honest sailing experience we all know and love: standing at the helm for hours keeping course, watching the waves, chilling. Great idea, well executed.
This was awesome to watch. I would like to see more of this, like real time of prepping the boat, hoisting sails, passage making, etc. I can imagine that these are a bit easier to edit and would make a great bonus content to your regular videos as well.
Interesting experience (I could made it for very long 10 minutes...) but not in my direction. I prefer your usual pace, your adventures, see the world with you. I love to meet you every Friday and cherish your wonderful way out there. Thanks, but not this time.
After a while of it running it the background on tablet, I start to pay attention more noticing the twists of the river and birds and am transported. Beautiful.
I love this. Kinda reminds me of our ride up the Amazon river on an old Amazon boat with a thatched roof. Very peaceful. Thank you for what must have been a challenge to up load. I think I have to buy you some more beer.
Can't believe I'm watching this whole thing. It's amazing though!!!!!!! Takes nads to "experiment" like this. Glad you have 'em. :)) What a fascinating place. So peaceful. Thank you.
1. Turn on computer 2. Ah. New Delos Vid! Excelent! 3. 3+ hours long...WTF? 4. Huh...? Slow TV??? 5. = One happy Norwegian sitting over here enjoing a spectacular cruise up a river! Made my day! I would love to see something like this from passages though. Make 'em longer. Days if you can! And LIVE would be absolutely amazing if that would ever be possible. But let me know in advance so I can make plans to stay home from work. One more thing....have you considered ditching the 16:9 format and going ultra wide 21:9? That would be awesome!
Awesome! The fixed camera/s catching everything vs "racing through paradise" view. Perhaps 4 cameras on a split screen: Helm, Bow, Spreaders looking at the deck and one below decks that can be turned to the action, galley, table or hatch :-) The serenity of sailing vs the action packed pace. Cool :-)
Absolutely calm relaxing quiet!!!!!, Society , at times, is trained like cattle for go go go!... we do not realize that it ok to do nothing at times and really only way to achieve clarity!!.. Rock on 🤘🏾 Lord Shiva
Excellent. I just fell asleep and had the best nap i've had in years. This was like those "water trickling" meditation clips. Cool how the brain works.
Hah. I'm a fan of slow TV ever since I saw footage somebody shot from the bow of a canal boat. Well done. I'm putting some time aside to experience this on a big screen. Thanks for all your efforts and greetings from Cornwall, uk!
Thank you... these moments of peaceful bliss explain the excitement that you enjoy when your other videos only capture those moments. Cannot have one without the other or joy will no longer be as effective, or solitude would become boring. Nice experiment, personally I don't mind being a test subject...it should be an option for anyone that needs to reconnect with a very real but ellusive reality.
As a tinnitus suffers I accidentally found real benefits from the audio as a masking audio therapy, using earphones and keeping audio levels slightly above tinnitus background level, reducing volume as tinnitus ringing subsides.
Thank you very much for this video!! This is amazing, this is like these hours long video of train rides. If I could I would literally pay for this nice film.
I like it somewhat for what it is. I'm a little too much on my own to enjoy the one dimentional aspect of hangin out in the aft seat and want more to hear or see on board. Is some patter possible just the normal things that go on. I know the girls are probably sleeping so the quiet is possible. I like the idea of this on a ocean crossing if that is strategically possible mounting a camera where it will not be hit by spray. But a calm ocean light breeze it would be so great. I will put this on after the sun goes down. I'm having to think about a bigger screen. I want to "walk" on board like keelbearful below. This is a sweet change on its own. Your imaginations are thinking up some good stuff! Keep it up and on the down low!
I love quiet mornings on the water. Here, it means a local lake, but it's still just as peaceful to be the only boat and just idling slowly along the shoreline. That being said, if I had someone else to pilot mine...and it was as large as Delos...I'd probably end up taking a nice mid-morning nap!
More please. I'd love to see a slow tv where you and crew hoist the sails and trim them. Motoring was a nice start and an awesome location. Let the camera run the next time you are getting underway in some wind.
Do one of these EVERY WEEK please?! Perfect to fill in between adventures and shenanigans. Though I imagine if you did it every week it would eventually catch some shenanigans! Episodes on Fridays, Slow episodes on Sundays.
I'm 100% here for this. I'll put it on as I fall asleep this evening. Suggestion: Do the same for passages. Nothing like the south of the sea during passages.
We have a freeze warning tonight and the boat is about to be hauled out for the winter (Great Lakes) and I am already missing peaceful mornings on the water. Thanks for sharing this. Would love to see some under sail too!
