How cute are Jackie and Jessie! :) Such a nice visit and I love how real this feels. Not a gigantic, new and super fancy kitchen but something normal. Probably what so many people have at home. Love it! :)

When we moved into our current house the first thing I made handy husband do was build and install pull out shelves in all our base cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms, best thing we did for making everything easily accessible. Only an American would call that kitchen small 😂 And I say that in the most loving way. My kitchen is considered normal sized here in Sweden and is half the size. The breaking up of sets is something I still struggle with, after eight years of decluttering and six years of minimalism. It just feels forbidden 😅 Before I saw Dawn talking about it a few months ago it hadn’t even really crossed my mind that you’re… well… allowed! 😂

Without being too "gushy"...I have been inspired by you and your videos to absolutely purge! 11 years of clutter, collecting and just too busy to get at it...gone in five days! I prepped for about a month, putting things in totes, bags and piles and rented a roll off. The day it came I just started tossing. This weekend I paint my new studio that I've made room for in the "storage" room. I didn't realize how stressed the inventory was making me and how much I can breathe now and have room for what serves me and moves me forward. Thank you for being there at the right time when I needed the inspiration. I wish I could send you pictures. It's truly an OMG! before and after.

You both did an amazing job on this little kitchen. Your lack of judgement, sense of humor and common sense puts people at ease and helps them make decisions that have been difficult for them. You rock! I see a TV show in your future. The one recommendation I would make is to head on over to a YT channel called Think Media for simple fixes and suggestions for lighting and filming with minimal/basic equipment. I've learned so much from that channel and it helps that it doesn't involve going out and buying a bunch of expensive equipment. Lighting is always one of the things we don't think about when filming because we're so intent on getting the content that we don't realize any lighting issues until we go to edit. Your channel is one of the few I really look forward to watching every week. You are such a blessing to so many people. Bless you for spreading the love in such an honest and usable way. Often we think that 'spreading the word' involves sermons and preaching when in fact the most usable and relatable way to reach people is by doing things in loving ways. You truly do 'walk your talk'. 💗

Dawn, watching this video, I did feel like it does feel better to be in that kitchen even though it doesn't look like a Pinterest kitchen. It's still a nice kitchen though. Sometimes we think we need to remodel to Pinterest standard when what we really need or want is function. The glass cabinets are charming and just by storing the right items in them makes a statement. Loved this video and your clients seemed so nice to work with.

This was absolutely a wonderful video. Such a rekaxed and laid back atmosphere, showing that decluttering can be fun and no stress. (When Jesse made rhe comment about pulling the container out of his hands I imagined a Jerry Springer-like "Dramatic Decluttering" reality TV show. It just proves that we can be lighthearted about letting go of our things. So many people have such a hard time with it). I love how everyone worked as a team to make a space where they were struggling into one that was much more functional. I love the bin drawer idea! Please keep these videos coming. The bins in cabinets tip is sooo useful! Our kitchen has these skinny, but deep cabinets beside the refrigerator that serve as our pantry. I started grouping like items together and using bins and it has been life changing! I just refined some of the categories and added labels last night. No more losing things in the back of them! And I only had two old box mixes that had moved with us and were now out of date! Yay for reducing waste and making our space easy to use!
@gingerstrahan7464

Remember those deep dark corner cabinets? The way our kitchen was built, the “designer” just ignored/deleted that space by putting in cabinets thar walled it off and out of the kitchen entirely…and therefore our kitchen is actually MUCH smaller than you would think. Just wishing right now for energy and cash to work with the strange layout and function to make what looks like usable space into actual usable space. Really enjoyed the video and truly appreciate you and the service you are providing to individuals as well as to your gazillion subscribers, etc. You two really are making an impact, far wider than you could have ever supposed. Thank you so much, and blessings to you and your family (including extended).

Dear Jackie and Jessie, I really like your kitchen, wooden floor and furniture always looks like home for me. In my kitchen I swapped the cupboard door knobs and drawer knobs for white vintage porcelain ones, which makes my kitchen look kind of different. @helenmak5663

I agree what you said about fake drawers. I think they are more economical than real ones. Lastly, real ones are easier to use, they take up more space and result in less storage. There are pros and cons. By the way, I have a small kitchen and planning a remodel, I’ve been thinking about the pull out drawers/containers.

Brilliant insight ahead! What we really need are food "storage containers" that have a nice aesthetic AND can function as dinnerware. Now you designers watching, go to the drawing board. Made if glass with minimal plastic/silicon involved in lid/cover mechanism. Some folks already use canning jars (beverages in particular) but food usually gets dumped into plate or bowl. So a flatter surface like a deep pasta dish. The only lids that work for those that I've seen are stretch silicon which may limit amount allowed on plate. Thinking aloud here. Any other ideas? My thought is no separate dinnerware and separate food storage but a new unit that works for both purposes.

I have done exactly what you suggest, not as pretty as your idea but I serve meals in round (easier to wash) storage containers, then just pop the simple lid on and refrigerate the leftovers. I’m 78 years old and just started this a few months ago. Love it. Less inventory. I no longer dread dealing with leftovers. Donna
@constancewilliams4619

Hate to break it to ya, but leftovers are usually a smidgen of the amount on the plate or in the bowl you ate from. Depends upon how many servings are needed for the meal. I do like the idea of it, and wouldn't mind trying it while the dishes sit in quarantine. Maybe sooner than later. Thanks for your motivation.
@AWanderingEye
@AWanderingEye 3 года назад
@@MikeyDonna Donna, my only concern with what you're doing is that bacteria may be intoduced by refrigerating what you can't finish eating at one sitting, so be en guard for changes before you eat a forkful of green fuzz! That aside I use rectangular 3C pyrex for meal prep which j u s t about fit the 6qt instantpot and work great in fridge/freezer, about the right size for a portion plus a side. However, they need a sort of cradle to actually eat out of since the container gets super hot, I have to use special finger gloves to pick them up out of IP, too. But I do like your idea to use the rounds, definitely easier to wash and the lids have no moving parts and are a single piece with no extra crevices to get cruddy. Now to ny eye, they need a sort of charger/cradle to make table ready to give it a shape you can easily hold the rim of? Or, am I just being extra?

One of the MANY things I’ve learned through you and this channel is that my ideal self is a minimalist. One of the best tips I heard from you six months or more ago, Dawn, was about small storage containers. I bought six 1 cup Pyrex storage containers a few months before I saw your video. If I had to do it all over again, I would have easily been satisfied with my 2 to 3 cup Pyrex containers. I roll my eyes every time I even think about that micro error. But it’s a process, so I forgave myself. There is grace, even in kitchen decluttering. 😇

This was so wonderful to watch! It’s amazing how some decluttering and fresh eyes can really change a space. In our home the original owners had the tv on the big wall and the couch in the middle of the open concept kitchen, living and dining area and it felt so cramped. Then when we moved In my future mother in law suggested moving the tv to the half wall and getting a sectional along the big wall and window! What a difference! Not only were we able to fit a sectional in but the space feels super open and peaceful! Fresh eyes can truly be a game changer to your home 🙌👏❤️

I love seeing two people with COMPLETELY different clutter styles than myself (I am a bee) so ruthlessly get rid of their stuff! I have a bee organization style - I like FUNCTIONAL open storage and I don't mind the visual clutter of art and plants and stuff, but realistically I am a definite micro organizer, sometimes almost to the extreme. I can be quite ruthless about getting rid of useless items, but I tend to want to hold onto things that I think serve a PURPOSE (even if I haven't used it in a year, I'm like "well.. I MIGHT need that") So watching a ladybug and a cricket get rid of things that they may even use later is fascinating to me!

I wonder how many full food storage containers they had in the fridge on top of the ones stored in the cabinet. We're going to be downsizing to an apartment size fridge, and I'm going to pare down the containers to only what will comfortably fit in there, and a couple of plastic containers that will fit in a lunchbox.

Hi Dawn & Tom! I love this video! This was the first video I’ve seen of you guys going to someone’s house to declutter. It was SO much fun and I got some good tips for my small kitchen. I hope you guys do more of these types of videos. Sending much thanks and love from Oregon! 🥰

This was a nice video. New to your channel and enjoyed watching it. One thing that does bug me (and not just from this video, but from ALL the "small kitchen" organization videos I've seen) that kitchen isn't really small. It actually has a decent amount of cabinet space, it just wasn't being used efficiently. I'd LOVE to see a video of an actual small kitchen organization if someone reaches out to you to do theirs 😁

I liked the fact that Jackie & Jessie had already begun the process of decluttering and organizing, because I feel like that is the phase I am in. It is easier to see those trouble areas, than when you’re starting from scratch and everything is on a grander scale. You’ve inspired me to get back in the kitchen and do more. It has been a little difficult for my husband and I, because I am a cricket and he tends to be a butterfly. In addition to that, we cook differently and so our ingredients as well as our tools are different. It’s definitely a compromise on what stays and goes and how things get stored in our tiny kitchen. Thanks to all of you for sharing your hone and expertise.

We had remodeled our small kitchen, so that helped to edit what was truly needed. Then when I started putting things back I had to edit again. I still need to edit my kitchen towels and my utensil drawer and my counter crock that holds utensils. It made me feel better, I didn’t feel overwhelmed with stuff. They were really lucky to have you help them. And it looked great in the end.

Dawn, I really enjoyed watching you declutter this small space. I really think Jesse needed the push to get rid of some of that stuff. I really do not think he will be going back to the quarantine box for anything. I think he will realize he doesn't need all that stuff and it will feel a lot better being able to find what he uses on a regular basis. Great job!

We use a TON of food storage containers! There's just the two of us, so we sometimes have lots of leftovers that'll require the use of 5-6 containers. Then there's food prep, etc. So for some people, those are necessary.

Definitely not much on frig!! My grands will color us a picture and expect me to put it on the frig. I do but I've been telling them it will be there for awhile and then it goes in my "special" note book. If they inquire about it I'll pull out the book for them to see. Mostly they don't... but I still have some treasured artwork, and a clear frig. My pots and pans cabinet really needs some TLC. My daughter says I'm the queen of kitchen utensils. 🧑‍🍳👸lol Thanks for the motivation, and for letting us see your space.

That gives me an idea! I can move the paper plates and napkins to the corner cupboard (which currently has mixing bowls & pitchers). I can put the large seasonal trays in the cupboard above the fridge, and get rid of the old plastic food storage containers (since we've already replaced them with using glass ones). Then I'll have an empty cupboard that I can possibly turn into a garbage & recycling drawer! Now I just need an idea of where to store potatoes because I have no pantry!

We have a bigger kitchen with fewer cabinets (it has three doors so little wall space) and one thing we've done is to hang hooks everywhere. The frying pans hang above the stove, the cooling racks hang inside the cabinet, the pot lids hang inside the cabinet door, etc etc.

I don't have pull out cupboards, so I keep my everyday cookware, in the upper cupboards; for me it's so much easier to get to, no kneeling, or bending over in awkward positions to get to things. I'm getting great tweaking ideas to what I have already done through the years.

I'm too short to use the upper cupboards for pots and pans; I would hurt myself. I'm so short that I can't reach the second shelves at all without dragging out the stepladder.
