One problem of big phones, that foldables do not solve, is single handed operation. Users with small hands might actually prefer smaller screens, not just smaller phones.
sorry but I'll never go back to tiny phones again honestly didnt care for cell phones until they became big I use my phone for maps and reading so a bigger screen was awesome plus I love to watch shows on my phone while in bed or at work a small phone for me would be useless
I had a Redmi 4x for my high school. My galaxy note 9 is great, don't get me wrong, but I miss the small and lightweight 4x dearly even thought I won't go back to it.

Mr Mobile's descriptive & vibrant narration and visuals that give me 2000s/early 2010s nostalgia are what make his videos better than MKBHD's in my opinion
One interesting "small" form factor that Mr Mobile neglected to mention is the Blackberry Key. No the Keys aren't small phones if you include the keyboard, yet the screen is just 4.5 inches. So if you either shift the Key to use the screen only or use the capacitive keyboard (except the KEY 2 LE), you can pretty much use the Keys one handed, at least for a few minutes lol. I think this qualifies the Keys.
And that's the unfortunate reason WHY small phones disappeared. When nobody cares or talks about it, other companies will assume there's no demand for it.
Actually the vanilla s21 is 's21e'. I'm using the s21 ultra,had tried handle all 3 versions before buying, and if handling is the main criteria(ignoring specs), I would pick s21 over s10e. Give it a try
In addition to the clamshell's compact design, I love the idea of taking selfies with the main camera, or being able to show a person I'm taking a pic of what they look like in a preview window. I know a lot of people don't care about that feature, but as someone who does photo editing, I think that will come in handy.
I have the S10e and it is an excellent phone. I too was very disappointed to see Samsung abandoning the form factor with no S20e. No more Samsung for me.
Exactly. I have it and it's the last gem for people like us. So much that I bought a second one used for cheap just in case mine breaks. I want to keep it for as many years as possible... As I said in another comment here "Many people are not bothered by how big a phone is in the pocket, but by how big/long and heavy it's when using it". S10e is as big as I want to ever go and currently other than moving to iphone, which I don't want to, there is no flagship at this size or less on Android...
I disagree with this video. I love the video, but the benefit of a small phone is that you can use it with one-hand. That's something the clamshell won't give us if it gets too big when folded open. Also, as someone who used the new Razr (I reviewed it) it got extremely annoying to have to fold open my phone every time to use it. I think phones like the Flip, or the Razr are going to go the way of the 12 mini and the compact. They will be a small segment of phones, but a segment that needs to be filled.
Instead of crying, I always smile when seeing it in the video. Even with not much of functionality anymore, it still has its place instead of cold, dark, basement storage.
Will never happen because Android OEMs focused way too much on stupid specs. And they can't fit those into a small form factor. That's the problem when all you do is advertising huge 4000+ mAh batteries, 27 main cameras and so on.
@@kshayarsha5450 most people who use android only care about the numbers and that mean bigger screen, my relatives were shocked when they got a hold of my pixel 3 saying "this phone is so comfortable to hold", plus pixel 3 is pretty light
@@kshayarsha5450 Because they need to be big to fit all the useless stuff they're advertising all the time. Apple is way smarter at this point by not advertising the raw battery size and don't include useless cameras so they have more on paper.
I cherished my Xperia Z1 Compact. That was the first ever phone I bought myself when I was 16 just after one of the most devastating Super Typhoons ever recorded sunk our city with 2-story floods. For me, it was a symbol of recovery and getting back to normalcy
I’m watching this on the 12 mini. It’s a magnificent phone and I’m a bit sad to see how little it seemed to sell. I don’t really think foldables are the exact future, since they still don’t really address the issue of being able to use the phone with only one hand

Right! I have a purse for carrying it. But I got small hands. So it is difficult to use something that is wide and larger than 6inch,idealy would be 5.8 or smaller. Also I just risk droping bigger phone because I have no grip, because they are too large and wide :(
I had z1 compact, z3 compact and currently rocking the xz1 compact. I love tiny phones because with my tiny hands most phones are to big to use comfortable one handed. I really hoping that clam-shell became affordable in near future, or at least S21 range.

They need to bring them back! I've pretty much had smaller units throughout most of my smartphone history, with my latest, an S10e, replacing a standard S7 (same size hardware, except the actual screen itself and bezels/chins)... I love having all that power in a small wonder, and really HATE a handset I can't slip into a standard pocket, completely out of view, even though I use a thick case and screen protector...
Just bought last year s10e, loving it. Though battery isn't greatest especially as i live in Europe.. and we have the exynos versions xD still like it doe
I started using my wife's old Samsung S8 as a music player at the gym, and I found myself liking how sensible it is. I like my note 20 ultra, but next time I'll buy a smaller phone and spend what I saved on a good tablet for scrolling at home.
I love both a small and big phone at different times! This is why my primary phone is a 1+ 8 Pro and when I need a more reasonable size phone that will conceal nicely, I swap my sims (yes both!) into the Unihertz Jelly 2. Best of both worlds! Although I definitely agree the Z Flip is very appealing for this need and I'm really hoping the Gen3 will finally be worth it!
After using a small phone for a while (like during a repair of my phone) its always such a relief getting my big screen back. Everything is cramped on small screens and having big hands there is just no reason not to go for a big phone. Ever since the first Galaxy Note this has been true for me.
Love his obsession with foldables.. years from now they'll be much more popular and it would be fun to look back at these videos and understanding how correct he was!!

I'm very excited for the next generation foldables, Z Flip 3 in particular. My current iPhone XS barely fits in my car's centre console and it's quite a small device by today's standards.
i want a small smartphone! I use a phone for 5 things: Google /Maps RU-vid for tutorials spotify for podcasts at work whatsapp for chatting calls MORE I DONT NEED. Having a giant brick in my pocket seems so stressing to me. cant sit comfortably without it piercing through the pocket or flattening your leg completely
Me too! But coming from (broken) pixel 3, s10e feels a little too wide for a small phone. even though it's not tall so my thumb can still reach the top corner, its too wide that my hands never got comfortable while holding it
yes, to me Samsung Galaxy S10e is the last small compact flagship Android phone; with the expandable storage and the dual camera at the back (wide and ultra-wide), 3100mAh battery and Snapdragon 855 which could make you use the phone through the day from 7:00 a.m to 6:30 p.m with no charge in between. One tip; the less app that a phone have, the better battery life you get. So for the Samsung S10e, usually put the essential app such as Facebook Lite, Spotify, WhatsApp, Twitter, Chrome, Microsoft Office apps (Lens included), TikTok, RU-vid, PhotoGrid, VSCO, Instagram, Keep, Samsung Health, Swarm, LinkedIn, FourSquare, Netflix, your bank apps, travel apps (i.e your air carrier brand), Snapseed; that's it. That's good enough for me.
Apple products have never been my cup of tea. Still, I was really happy to see them release the 12 Mini. And, now that I got the news from you, Micheal; sad that it's not selling as well. Although the foldable smartphones are here to stay, I prefer the sturdier, simpler, and cheaper slab design. For now at least, I'll keep my s10e close. Awesome content as always. Thank you.

I'm probably one of the few people on this planet who doesn't miss small phones one bit. I have comically large hands, so any screen any smaller than about 5 inches was painful for me to use.
For me, it's less important that a small phone is a big phone that fits in my pocket (like a foldable) and more important that they are legit small phones in my hand!
I'm really hoping poor iPhone 12 mini sales don't affect how the smartphone market looks at high end small phones. I absolutely love my iPhone 12 mini and I'm hoping we continue to get more iterations in the future. I'm still hoping Samsung releases a Galaxy S21e as well. The S10e was a phenomenal device.
Actually after completing my internship I have started appreciating the perks of a small phone , i mean running around it's easier to check notification's and overall easier to use with one hand ✌️
Finally subscribed after watching for 10 years. Keep the thought experiments coming, I have keyboard and blackberry lovers asking me what can they use that's new enough to get 5G and I feel like I am perpetually looking for the next upgrade even though I tend to keep phones longer.
