That is his real father. His father had been recently diagnosed with stage four kidney failure. At the time of the recording, he was only supposed to have months to live. As a result of the popularity of the song, and how far and wide the song got, an distant cousin of his father's saw the video, got tested, and was found to be a match. A transplant was attempted and was successful. This song saved his father's life. He was able to chase the monsters away for his dad after all. (Also, both he and his father were military officers in the UK)

I have watched other react to this song, and some come across as though they are putting on an act. You however, showed honest genuine emotion and it was not something you could fake. This is a heartfelt reaction. Thank you for being able to react and show how you related to this song.

To me that is one thing most people can't fake when you see someone dry eyed, then you see their eyues well up with tears. It's the dry eyed ones who fake it by looking down and pretending to wipe their eyes. All I know is I can't just turn on the water works at will.

That is his Father. His Dad was dying of kidney failure when the song was written. Then thankfully he got a transplant.

James Blunt is a beautiful singer, so emotive. He came from a military family, saw some terrible things at war. I saw him in concert years ago. I think he and his father raised money for cancer with this song( in England).

Not quite correct. James Blunt donated all proceeds from this song to Hope for Heroes and the British Legion, charities that help serving and retired British military personnel. Both Captain James Blount (his real name) and Colonel Charles Blount (his father) served in the military. His songs, Carry You Home and No Bravery are moving remembrances of his time serving in Kosovo.

As you said then this video was recorded his dad was terminally ill. But because of this video a distant cousin saw the vid. Got checked to see if he could be a donor and it was a match.. Hi dad is noe fine and alive. Amazing!

I balled my eyes out to this song, my dad passed away from cancer a year ago i was with him when he passed away its gut renching💔 i couldnt grieve properly at first it was a relief that he had passed as i didnt have to see him in agony anymore and his feeling brings me so much guilt 😢

I think you have slightly misunderstood something about this song. It's not that the son can now take care of it's a reversal of their traditional rolls. It is now time for the sun to take care of the father, it is the son who will now be chasing the monsters away from under the bed. The reason he says I am not your son you are not my father is because there isn't a separation between them and their roles anymore. The sun is describing his relationship with his father as an equal not a child and parent.

That is his dad, and because they look like carbon copies of each other, it's a pretty good clue. IF you let the video play to its end, I think you'll feel happier. They were both officers in the Royal Military, so the whole video, filled with his emotion, must have been incredibly hard for both of them! Sweet. Empathetic reaction! Thank You.
