This scene is so under rated. Clark knows when she repeats what Dr. Fate told her, that it’s him... however when Clark asks her if she believes in fate she says “only the kind you make happen” because she knows (thinks she knows) that the “sentient power and savior” isn’t Clark. Which makes Clark smile because Lois is picking Clark over the blur at this moment.
Wow, you are so right, it is indeed such a powerful subtle moment. All the more reason why they were so perfect for each other. More so, the chemistry was too damn palpable.
I think it's a good thing that Tom didn't do any research on Superman or Clark Kent. Because he played it exactly like a real person that was raised by a real father from Kansas. His mannerisms are the same as Jonathan's. At first it kinda weirded me out, seeing Clark not acting like the comic/movie versions at all. But it makes perfect sense now. "You can take the Clark out of Smallville but you can't take the Smallville out of Clark." That's who he is. A tough confident farmboy from Smallville, not a bumbling idiot like Reeves' or an obnoxious boy scout like Cavill.
Reeves Superman is iconic and there is a reason for Clark being bumbling as he is. Cavill's Clark is just bland, even though Cavill himself is a phenomenal actor because Snyder doesn't understand Superman or Batman on an intrinsic level.

Reeves’ Clark and Smallville Clark are not comparable. Reeves’ Clark was a persona not who he actually is, whereas in Smallville there is no need for Clark to have a persona yet because he’s not Superman so he is just acting like himself. Later in s10 when Clark decides to make Clark Kent the disguise, he act’s just like Reeves’ Clark, bumbling and all.
