I don't know if someone already covered this in the comments, but the reason why this season was short was due to the Writer's Strike that occurred that year. ALWAYS with the Writer's Strikes.

What's up my dude? Another insightful review as always! This was also the last season for Smallville's creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, so I can see them throwing as much cool stuff. Starting with the tradition of cameos. We get Dean Cain as a Immortal but I loved how his handkerchief had the initials CK (from Lois and Clark). Helen Slater as Clark's mom( original Supergirl) and Mark McClure as Dax-Ur (Superman films Jimmy Olsen. With the Veritas story line I really do wonder( if Christopher Reeve was still was us) if Virgil Swan would have more screen time, one can dream. The Bizzaro season opener, as always, was a great opener and I would say sympathetic villian in his eventual demise. Kara was a great addition and agreed it was good to see Clark take on the mentor role.( Similarly like Buffy in her own season 7 to the potentials). It's only natural as we grow and "the son becomes the father" aspect as we grow and learn we teach those behind us. Lex becomes as evil as Lex can be. I do like the juxtaposition of Lional's funeral to that of Jonathon Kents. The crowd at Jonathon's and only Lex and Clark. I love the metaphor of how it was shot with the burial ground hole between Clark and Lex a visual rift between them once and for all. To the finale, "you know it had to end this way. I'm sorry" The fortress collapsed again figuratively on their friendship and visually on screen. Season 7 is a great season and the countdown to the end of the series truly has begun.

I didn't catch that Clark's mom was Supergirl!!! But then that movie...wasn't great, lol! I wanted to talk about Dean Cane. There was just so much stuff to talk about, soooo much! Also cool about Jimmy as Dax-Ur. Great catch with all the symbolism. The funeral, the grave being the rift between Clark ans Lex. The fortress collapsing, a picture of their friendship collapsing. Do I need to have you on? Lol! Great insights!

Season 7 is one of my favorite seasons. Yes, it had it's bad moments. But, the good of it was absolutely Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Loved Laura V. as Kara and still do. Had a massive crush back then. Loved how she added to Clark's world by bing able to teach him about his heritage/family, protected him on several occassions and even taught him to fly. She was also headstrong, fierce, capable, wasn't afraid to let loose with her powers, had a great level of confidence and was an overall badass. Also wasn't just a female Clark Kent, but her own character. She just should have been used a little more, such as season 9 to help Clark with the Kandorians. Laura is absolutely the best Supergirl and is forever my Supergirl.

Laura Vandervoort as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl was always my favorite part of Smallville Season 7. Had a massive crush on her as Supergirl. She was used quite well. In teaching Clark about his origins/family, teaching him to fly, protecting him several times and giving him great advice. None of her episodes were stupid per se. Just some storyline choices should have maybe been different. And they could have just shown her a little more. Laura is someone who I have come to know quite well in recent years. Who has helped me in personal struggles, such as those with cerebral palsy. She become somewhat a friend.

This season also brought back the idea of the Justice team and introduce a new member for one episode. But at least it's something that will be touched upon in the next seasons later. Yeah, this season did jam-packed a lot of things in. There's one scene with Kara and Lana after she connected the dots with these pictures in the barn. And as I said before this season will bring up Easter Eggs from the past seasons. When Kara showed that picture of what Lana once had on her body in season 4, that look on Lana's face speechless. There's one more scene with Clark connecting the dots with the Veritas connection in the hospital with Chloe. It's like you can practically see the wheels turning in their mind and how they're able to put 2 and 2 together. A jam-packed season but good. That scene with Chloe gaining the Brainiac computer bad-ass!

For me I think that Jimmy’s relationship with Kara is 10 times better than Chloe because with Kara she can trust Jimmy and help him and there is good chemistry. But with Chloe as much I like her. With her it’s just more drama throughout season 7 To season 8 and it’s just really bugging me. That’s why Kara is better than Chloe.

Yes, Lana was poorly written in the later seasons in which she appeared. Faking her death by an explosion, stealing ten millions from Lex and kidnapping Lionel did not fit her character at all. But it was the same problem with Chloe, who had Oliver kidnapped, put into a coffin and shot at to get him back into his role as Green Arrow, which was also completely unbelievable. Martha was also poorly written when she came back late in the series, as a kind of undercover spy or something like that, it was just stupid.

It really angers me that Clark had cero respect for himself and constantly got together with Lana even after everything she did to “protect him”. Which frankly just hurted him. I feel like in trying to give Lana something to do this season was at the expense of Clark’s character growth. #endthelanadrama lol. The positives of this season where definitely Lex’s arc and Michael Rosenbaum performance , it was awesome! And Laura Vandervoort was really amazing too. I really wish she was around for the next seasons but I’m pretty happy with what we got. Also Veritas subplot was my favorite part of the entire season. Great video and great review!!!

Thank you! Great observation that in them looking to give Lana something to do, it actually hurt the growth of Clark's character. I think I may use that observation in my season 8 review if that's okay. It's so true! Clark takes steps forward and Lana drags him backwards making it so irritating and hurting the great progress they made on Clark's character. He really didn't have self respect diving back into that relationship over and over again.

The final season with actual Lex before things got a little weird. I like that stuff later with the clones, and life support Lex but this is the final Michael Rosenbaum Lex until the finale. Which ups the stakes I think. I have mixed feelings on Lex this season. When the season first came out and it was later revealed that Michael Rosenbaum wouldn't return in the next season I gave up on the show for awhile cause I didn't think it could be the same without Lex. Boy I was so wrong cause I love season 8 even more than this season. But still this was the first time I had ever considered quitting the show because an original character was leaving. This is one of the darkest seasons for Lex in the whole show in my opinion. But let's start from the beginning with Bizarro. I love that Clark tries to beat Bizarro with his weaknesses cause I didn't even know that all of Clarks weaknesses are Bizarro's strengths until I seen this episode. Clark lures Bizarro into a vault with Kryptonite bricks expecting him to crumble to his knees at the exposure but instead Bizarro just absorbs the Kryptonite from the bricks. Now that was a wtf moment on my first watch. I love the effect and how he heals his wounds cause of it. Plus Clark's stunned facial reaction to it was my reaction. Then later on in one of my favorite action moments of the whole show I love when Clarks getting his butt kicked for awhile by Bizarro In that dam storage room and he lands in a spot where there's a hole in the roof letting the sun in and he sees a wound on his hand instantly heal in the sunlight. He then realizes that where his weaknesses are Bizarro's strengths, Clarks strengths are Bizarro's weaknesses. So he lures Bizarro towards him once again while he's fully flooded in that sunlight and let's Bizarro get one free punch in almost as if to test his theory. Clark takes the punch and is clearly unfazed by Bizarro's strength now. Then in the most epic uppercut scene I have ever seen in anything in my life, in classic slow mo Smallville fashion, Clark uppercuts Bizarro through the roof. And if I remember correctly pieces of Bizarro's face begin to break apart as he's soaring in the sky. Then whoosh Bizarro is taken away by the Martian Manhunter. I'll never forget that moment. There's also a scene where Bizarro is impaled and a civilian comes by to see if he's still alive and Bizarro burns him down with his Heat vision. Always liked that scene to show the audience this isn't just Clark on Red K where you can get rid of the Red K and he'll go back to normal. No this is a dangerous menace to the entire human race, who feels no sympathy or connection to them. He just happens to have chosen to look like Clark. And thankfully like many villains on the show he has an attraction to Lana because she is awesome. Totally understandable Lana's hot. But yeah this season I feel puts Clark in the most mature role I feel he's been in since the start of the show. Cause now there's no Martha or Jonathan sadly to guide him. He's on his own and he's got this Kryptonian cousin who he has to guide and monitor. It's the ultimate tribute to his great and real father Jonathan I think that he takes all these lessons that he taught him and passes them onto his cousin. Jonathan would be proud. Especially because though I like Kara she is really hotheaded at times and I feel bad that Clark has to try to reign her in when she wants to use her powers to solve everything. Plus she knows how to fly unlike Clark. But thankfully in the end Clarks endless words of wisdom get through to her. One thing I'll say about Lana this season is that I'm so glad her and Clark are finally real with each other. No holding back, no invisible barrier that's keeping them apart. They're together and it's a great thing to see. Also I'm fully on board with her wanting to get revenge on Lex for faking her pregnancy or torturing Lionel for forcing her to marry Lex, though that last ones harder to defend. It's the Luthors to hell with them if it's between them and Lana. Last things I want to say is the episode Fracture is the one I was talking about in your earlier review Durbania. The one that reminds me of Onyx. I need to watch it again to truly refresh my memory but just going off what I remember Lex is shot and in a critical state and Kara is captured so Clark goes into Lex's mind using Luther technology to try to find some answers. And dang this is one of the darkest points of the season for Lex. We get to see Lex and Lana doing the dirty while Lex forces Clark to watch, we get to meet the good side of Lex who I immediately connect to the season 1, 2, 3, and 4 Lex that we knew and loved, And the most heartbreaking moment in the episode evil Lex who has cursed us with his presence throws the good Lex into the fireplace. How symbolic is that in telling us that the old Lex we knew and loved is dead? And that hinting to how Lex would react to finding out Clarks secret later once you've seen the season once is scary. Now to the finale one of the longest cliffhangers for me cause I didn't want to watch the show anymore after this. I know they weren't friends here anymore but damn the betrayal. This one hurt. Everyone's been wondering what Lex would do if he found out Clarks secret since season 1. Well we got our answer he'd actually murder his former friend who he perceived as a threat to the human race. God I hate Lex here. The fact that he was willing to go down with Clark and die with him cushions the blow a little but still the control was in his hands and he chose to try to murder Clark. I know in every other Superman story Superman and Lex are bitter rivals but this is Smallville they were best friends once.

I wonder how Bizarro looked like when he was created on Krypton before he became a Phantom because they never showed us how he looked like. I mean Bizarro was like less than 1 year old when he was created on krypton and then became Clark’s doppelganger. But if they showed us how Bizarro looked like before he became a phantom and Clark’s Doppelganger that would have been very interesting. Wouldn’t you Be.

Hi I'm enjoying your reviews. My first time watching Smallville on Season 9 right now. I'm confused about the ending for Season 7 with the Veritas Arc. Did Jor-El actually send the device to Earth to destroy the Fortress and control his son if Kal-El went evil? Or did Brainiac send it instead? I was confused by that why would Jor-El want to allow humans to control Clark?
@ChrisDurban
@ChrisDurban Год назад
Honestly that was a little confusing. But Jor-El stripped Clark of his powers so he couldn’t be controlled. So maybe that was a Brainiac thing.
@heatherwaetzig2633
@heatherwaetzig2633 Год назад
Someone mentioned that theory on another thread. Jor-El doesn't want Clark to be controlled so Brainic sending the Orb to Veritas makes more sense. But then what happened when Lex destroyed the Fortress did Clark lose his powers? If he lost his powers in Season 8 then maybe Jor El did send it? Makes no sense. Jor El seems to not trust Clark for most of the show. I was very confused is he supposed to be a villain?
@ChrisDurban
@ChrisDurban Год назад
@@heatherwaetzig2633 My theory on Jor-El: The voice in the ship fortress is an AI. Sure, it has Jor-El’s memories and will, but it’s still not the real him. So it coldly does what the warm and loving Jor-El wanted which was for his son to walk in his destiny. I say warm Jor-El because in the episodes where we meet him in the flesh he’s an actual feeling person. So I think the Jor-El AI is good…just not a good father because it’s not a person coldly fulfilling it’s program. I think Jor-El had it programmed to take Kal-El’s power if someone tried to control him. The real Jor-El sent Martian Manhunter to help Kal-El if he was in a bind that would interfere with his destiny. Thus, Martin Manhunter flies him to the sun to regain his powers now that there’s nothing left to control him.
@heatherwaetzig2633
@heatherwaetzig2633 Год назад
@@ChrisDurban Cool thanks for the explanation this makes a lot of sense. So, the Orb did take Kal El's power but then he regains it when Martian Manhunter flies him to the sun. I just finished Season 9 Episode 7 and Jor-El is portrayed as a very kind in-flesh character there. Then he dies at the end noooo! The way Smallville sets him up initially isn't great to put it mildly. I guess I prefer the way Marlon Brando portrayed Jor-El in the original Superman 1978 movie. His Jor-El was very much like how I imagine the Heavenly Father to be. Loving, wise, all-powerful.

Helping him to learn more about his heritage/family, giving advice, protecting him several times and teaching him to fly a few times. She had a few great action scenes throughout the season as well. The Blue and Lara episodes were great because it allowed Clark to get a glimpse of who his mother really was through seeing glimpses of Kara's memories. Then being able to actually meet her via Kara's crystal in Blue. The scenes they had were actually quite heartwarming. Overall, season 7 was one of my favorites.
