Finally an easy step by step guide for regular guys on how to install the magic mirror to the Pi, you just convinced me to make my own smart mirror. Thanks a lot, very helpful.
I don't have a video out for the current build at the moment, but here is my last Mirror Hardware Build: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aa3VVZA0e5Y.html
For those wondering, this video was meant to be a quick-start guide to setup the Raspberry Pi 4. The new frame-less Mirror build video will be coming in a separate video with a list of parts. Additonally, looks like MagicMirror updated their website - Find the line of code in the "Program" section of my written setup: gregensom.com/Build/SmartMirror/
there are plenty of videos on how to make a mirror guys get over it. I have a mirror and making a 2ed one, this is exactly the video I need because I forgot how to install. Thanks a bunch bro nice vid great quality. when haters hate ya know ya doing something right.
Good video dude. Anyone who can't follow your vid and get it installed even with the new changes probably shouldn't be building one. Thanks for putting it together,
I knew all of this before, I was looking for on Smart Mirror setup and customizations, but I appreciate the time you took to record and edit this, it's very slick and easy to understand.
This is an outstanding video and great tutorial. I really appreciate it. Even though I am in awe of your ability, I do have some questions. 1) like the person commenting just before me I think, could you show us how you bring it all together to make it a mirror? Seems to me, you’ve set it up on a display or tv or computer monitor so the part about making it a mirror would be great. 2) I’m a gadget kinda guy and if I think of a smart mirror in a similar way to how I have my iPhone set up with widgets, what can be displayed is really infinite right? And at least initially, I’d do the boring stuff like weather, time, maybe it could have news headlines or sport scores or stock index movement/priced right? But now I’ve bored myself already. So do you have suggestions on what kinda A) fun applications to use it for as well as really helpful productivity stuff like a few I’d the ones I’ve already mentioned. (And others…..please:::😇). And how about automations like if you are standing in the mirror between 6 am and 7 am M-F. Shaving, can a routine of some sort be set up so that the hot water to the shower turns on if those requirements are met (I know I’m talking about IFTTT which may be way beyond the scope of this ( and my abilities lol) but I’m curious to hear your thoughts on these. And finally, two last points. LED lighting in the mirror frame, anti fogging for the mirror and how about voice integration? Ok. Are you exhausted yet? Anyway I’d love to get your thoughts on this stuff. Again, great job on the video.
Hi from Spain, congratulations for your smart mirror. You can turn the monitor off and on by saying OK GOOGLE, and the screen automatically shows the smart mirror module or the raspberry desktop? Thanks
Question, I'm going to be build a smart mirror soon but I'm trying to find out if I run two screens one smart mirror, can I make the other boot into a different program like osmc ?
Hi @Grensom! Looks as if they've updated the site & removed the single command line that was outlined in the instructions. Do you mind dropping the line here for those of us following along so we'll be set for success by the time your build video drops? Thanks for all of your help & efforts put into this, it's definitely appreciated!
Hey Greg... I started the smart mirror project last year and got all the way to wiring it all up and hit a road block. The power supply profiles were too large to allow the mirror to sit flat against the wall... Could you possibly help out with links to the power supplies you use? As I recall in your last video, the links did not match what were in the video. Thanks!
What I would do is either get a right angle barrel connector for the power supply plug to be as flush as possible or if you are good with soldering you can wire in custom red and black wires to where the barrel connector is. There is usually solder pads you can use. I would measure the voltage first to make sure you are soldering to the right parts.
How does the magic mirror display the things when just on the monitor (so without mirror part)? Is it just white text on a black background, or is it more complicated? I'm looking to do something similar, but not to show the forecast or news or something like that, but to place my own texts on it (and be able to change it whenever I want/need) But if the Magic mirror app does something fancy to the text (like borders or color gradients or something else that's not "standard and easy"), then I can't it I think
I am relatively new to raspberry pie, as in have experimented with it a little, anyways, my raspberry pi 3 comes with Noobs installed on the microSD... I was wondering if this would be sufficient for the smart mirror, or would I have to remove the interface, and replace it with the raspbian you’ve downloaded?
What was the black material you used on the last smart mirror video? I searched through those comments and you never mentioned what it was called or list where to buy it
thats a great idea for an easy smart mirror! stick the sheet over a tv and use a permenanet vesa mount on your drawers to stick it directly in the center optional to build a frame that surrounds the TV...smart mirrors dont have to be complicated to build, the demo purpose you have done is perect
How much RAM does the magic mirror software use? I’m gonna be running a very simple voice recognition system - think Alexa - and a smaller touch screen for it off the same pi
can i just use other people's way to setup the module by using the RPI 4...But many of them using RPI 3....it is have different method?? sorry for my bad english..
hi grensom i need your help can you guide me how i can see my slides on my computer lcd screen when i pull my slides of tiles in a showroom i have already installed rasberrypie and given to ip addresses
Can you make your monitor in portrait vs landscape with this software? My monitor doesn't have portrait mode but was hoping the software could do something as it would look way better in portrait vs landscape. Thnx
