I worked at the band’s mgmt company from 2004-2005. This video is very well done. Steve was a sweetheart of a guy and very approachable and Greg, Paul & Michael were all very cool as well but Steve had the charisma. I lost touch with them over the years and then heard the news like everybody did & I just cried. It is very deeply sad that he passed away and that he suffered and what is being reported in the last few years. Steve was truly a star and a good person and the industry is rough & can build people up and tear them down. RIP

"Walkin' on the Sun" is amazing, and they've got a lot of other great songs too ("Then the Morning Comes," "Can't Get Enough of You, Baby," and even "All Star" is kind of irresistible). Your hard work is indeed appreciated. I know as much about music as you do but never got around to doing my own series being a recording artist myself. I used to be addicted to watching rockumentaries in the 80s and 90s but soon got tired of the boujee un-music channels and over bloated "artists" living in their own collective talking heads. Your delivery is always on point, honest, and your voice even sounds the way a music documentary should be narrated. Been a follower between both of my accounts for a long time. His friend started getting mouthy and ended up challenging me to fight and I accepted and was just about to KO the punk but the members of De La Soul broke it up. Afterwards Steve found me and invited me to a party at a Napa resort I turned down the offer but later that night he ended up crashing a wedding and left the couple with a $20k tab and after that his manager quit. Steve was a talented guy but the death of his son sent him down a destructive path.

Thru it all, they managed to create music that was everything from the background noise to the emotional soundtrack of movies, car rides, school dances, parties and everything in between for a generation. There’s a million young adults out there now that are vaguely sad for a man they did not know but still feel fond of because of the art they created and that is an amazing gift to give and a solid legacy to leave. They made people smile and that is a great note to go out on.

I had a running joke between a couple of friends about All Star. We would just start singing it randomly while super drunk at times. But that lead to us seeing them live when they came to our local county fair. Gotta say, pretty decent show. I’m super glad we saw them before Steve passed away. They brought nothing but happiness to us.

Not about this video in particular but I really do appreciate seeing a face to what you're doing. I mostly dismissed your content because of the lack of that. I'm into your content and I'm glad you now have the confidence to show your face. These stories mean a lot to me growing up at the time and i'm here for it.

This was a very unique and odd time in musical history imo. The whole British Wave thing and everything was rebranding the 60's and 70's in fashion and culture because of Austin Powers, the first music video from Smash Mouth is a good example of it. Either way, this was right when the mid 90's to mid 2000's music bubble was starting to develop and we were actually hearing A LOT of new bands, MTV was playing music videos and had other programs other than Teen Mom and that one show with Dyrdek. It was great when I reminisce about it, but I was an "edgy" young teen at that time and your typical "rebel without a cause" so I hated all of it, lol.

It was a weird time, I was more into punk/metal (DayGlo Abortions, Misfits, Samhain, Pistols/Ramones, GG Allin etc) some tunes were ok but the whole blur Britpop and boyband era was whack imo

@@Garrett-qo6fc Yea man, I wasn't a fan of what the mainstream was at that time at all. It was depressing and it all sounded the same to me at least. I was a big GNR fan when I was in Jr High, and I remember seeing them perform on the MTV video awards, and it bummed me the f^^k out seeing how chubby and weird looking Axl Rose had gotten, lol. I didn't get into the Misfits and stuff until the first year of High School, I remember going to one of their concerts with some people I had just met, sh^t was awesome. I still have the poster that I got autographed from the whole band. Wasn't the original lineup but still was one of the best shows I've been to.

the swing revival actually began in the early 90s, but became mainstream around 96. I'd argue even the so called "latin invasion" had a bit of that swing revival in Livin La Vida Loca and Mambo No 5, which was not really what was happening with Ricky Martin's prior spanish songs.

No mention of the fact that "I'm a Believer" was written and recorded by Neil Diamond in 1967. A huge hit for The Monkees that same year.

Shiny Tunes is the Canada version of America's "Now That's What I Call Music" series. Top songs of the year and such. Smash Mouth was on a few of those in America as well. I remember them doing a cover of the Monkees song "Believer" because it was on a soundtrack like All Star was on the soundtrack to Ben Stiller's Mystery Men.

See, this is why so many bands hate the press. Stupid headlines like "Smash Mouth singer has on-stage meltdown over bread." No, it wasn't over bread, it was over the fact that fans were throwing that shit at them on stage; and calling it a meltdown implies that it was a childish reaction on Hartwell's part, but it was a completely valid reaction.

I love the band Smash mouth. I first heard them when I was watching An American Werewolf in Paris. The song that was playing was NOT on the soundtrack so I had to go to the music stores to find it. I ended up buying their first CD and was hooked on the band. I bought their second one when it came out. I was sadden to hear of Steve Harwell's passing. R.I.P Steve Harwell. You will be missed.
