@@MrDjambronk it’s doesn’t really have an official album, it went on their greatest hits albums and was also produced for the movie ‘singles’ and it’s soundtrack
Notice no cell phones. Before 9/11, social media, identity politics, pronouns, Prozac etc. Just a different world I wish I could go back to. I at least experienced it in my teenage years. I’m afraid those times r gone forever. Scary future
@443556jack I remember when Fender came out with the Corgan signature strat, people were saying "Huh, does he play strats?" they probably never were paying attention because it's pretty much all he plays.
@FrToddUnctuous Well that's how the original studio version is, and a good amount of live performances have it, but on certain occasions they just end the song when the whole feedback jam would start up.
The 90s was the absolute best in music in my opinion. The grunge era was just so kick ass. It’s all I listen to anymore. The emotion and talent was unparalleled!
This perfectly captures what is so special about the pumpkins: the heaviness and softness transition seamlessly and often happen at the same time. Guess it came out of fuzz rock. I know a lot of people hate his voice, but it’s a big part of what makes that work.
+Shawn Gerber Billy is a great songwriter but his ego ruined his potential since he felt he had to be the frontman even tho he's a horrible vocalist. It's like how Dave Grohl decided to be a frontman rather than stick to the drums lolol
No matter where you are I can still hear you when you drown You've traveled very far Just to see you I'll come around When I'm down All of those yesterdays Coming around No matter where you are I can still hear you when you dream You traveled very far You traveled far, like a star And you are All of those yesterdays Coming around Is it something someone said? Was it something someone said? Yesterday the sky was you And I still feel the same Nothing left for me to do
True. And Chamberlain never gets enough credit for his drumming. And even beyond that, the band (and all of its separate parts) never get credit for their collective greatness. They were one of the best bands ever and each member contributed significantly to that success. I wish people would recognize that.
A really immense groove. Jimmy lays it down, and then lets the melody happen. It takes everyone on the same page to make the tension and release work. Great band.
My bass player was from Chicago, he used to see the Pumpkins at basement shows house parties small clubs, he said even then when they'd play it felt like your feet wasn't on the ground, he knew they'd be huge what a band! That lucky bastard!
@@tyedyemike7425 considering you were alive in the 70s,80s, you should know that the 90s grunge/alt rock movement was an answer in the form of a middle finger to the flashy metal bands you're referring to.
Martius Picus It really wasn't that great man. Grunge was burning out by this point and that was really all that was happening. Everything was rehashed and changing. We all listened to 80's punk/hardcore, boy bands, west coast rap. It wasn't that great. I like smashing pumpkins now but Alternative got so overplayed and shitty. Also if you were into metal like I was all the bigger bands started releasing really shitty albums and it was not cool like it is now to be into metal.
Martius Picus note. no cell fones in audience, just people enjoying the music.. i concur, it was amazing time for music. saw pumpkins three times in that era, and all was fantastic. was it over-rated? everything is over rated. nothing is sacred, but that moment and time period is close.
Mary Hughes Lmfao comments like this make me cringe. What are they gonna do? Record it with their brick phone? You’re actually so dumb, Mary. Think before you comment.
I am so proud and yet so sad to be able to say I can attend this festival every year. It's literally a 20 minute drive from my home. Once, in the 80's and especially the 90's, this was where rock music was at it's very best. Pearl Jam really got big at Pinkpop. And whenever I'm looking for SP performances, these always stand out as the best. However, the glory is long gone. Today, rock legends like them share the stage with Justin Bieber and the like. Which I respect, but the glory of this era has worn off. And as a result, when I finally saw Pearl Jam for the first time ever at this festival, the crowd was not even half as excited as this one.
@@jeremybeavin9737 I am sad to say I haven't. I'm only 23, so unfortunately I have never been able to experience the era in which this festival (and music in general) was at its peak. What I said about those days is only from what I've heard and seen about it :(
cause the masses love horrible bands and music otherwise all the cool bands would still be at top of the charts instead of just being heard by a little club of people like us.
I was seeing this girl for a bit... and the conversation turned to music. I told her I loved the Smashing Pumpkins and her response was, "I fucking hate the Smashing Pumpkins!" Then guess what, you fucking hate me. I waved, I waved Goodbye.
The song that made me fall in love with them. 1992, Singles, completely stoned on acid, and the song barely plays in the movie. Yet, that was it... Oh! glorious times.
Hahaha I was tripping on liquid acid in a HMV store in 94 with a mate and we spotted the Siamese Dream CD on the play stand. After a couple of minutes of sick jokes and laughter I suddenly remembered reading that one song SOMA by this joke-name band was up for guitar solo of the year. l played it and GEEK on headphones. Hooked. Chamberlin. I bought Gish too. And so it began. Was only fitting I first see them live tripping too- at the filmed Brixton gig. But that's a whole other story!!
pamelamathilde Oh yeah, I loved (and love) this song. I remember buying Siamese Dream and being disappointed that it was not on the album. I bought the Singles soundtrack just to have the song. Man, those times were good.
I will never have an musical epiphany as good as this one. I started Singles Soundtrack being a big fan of Pearl Jam but as soon as I heard Drown in was in love. Vedder was a bit to macho for my tastes, but Corgan I felt like he literally had access to my soul! Been my favourite band since I was 12
why tf do i see this stupid ass comment on every good concert. yeah we get it you're way better than everyone else and came up with this very original bs comment enjoy the music and get ur boring ass out of the comments please
Goddamn this band was just absolutely on fire in the mid 90’s. My first concert ever was seeing them in 1997. I’d give anything to see them even earlier but I’m glad I at least caught the tail end.
The Tail End??!!! I saw them in ‘96 in Austin, in ‘97 in Fort Worth, in 2000 in Kansas City, Kansas, and in Late 2000 in Chicago at one of The Goodbye Shows. The Best One was The Kansas City, Kansas Show in 2000 ---- THEY ROCKED!!!! One of the Best Shows I’ve ever seen by anyone.
SUCH AN OUTSTANDING GRUNGE BAND!!! Smashing pumpkins was a nice Midwestern twist on the other west coast bands after STP gave the seattle sound a southern cal wrinkle. I love how Billy Corgan acknowledged that & was grateful to be part of that grunge era. He had a few interviews where he was blown away at their unlikely success.
caught that wink and smile...in 0:39...Billy really rocks, I love how he sings this song, and all of his other songs. he starts so soft and gentle, then, he gets loud...rock on Billy...i'll always love the smashing pumpkins forever...
2:00 the 2 girls are identical and wearing the same outfit also while both on some dudes(?) shoulders. So weird Glitch in the #Matrix #SimulatedReality
I keep coming back to watch this. Forget what I said about the lyrics.. the song is perfect. What makes the Pumpkins cool is their mix of perfection and imperfection anyway
Alexandre Versutti
I remember loving this song so much, but it wasn't on any of their albums, and it was before all the easy access to music that we have now. I bought some stupid album full of music that I didn't want to listen to just because it had this one song on it.
My Dude, he had hair in 1995, too. Watch the Bullet With Butterfly Wings video, which was The First Mellon Collie Single, released as a single in October 1995
The band's live and stunning performance during this early 1990's period proves their intense greatness as a unit. One apparent key for a band with a prodigy lead guitarist like Corgan, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hendrix, etc. is the band not competing with the lead. Then the big money hits which enables the ego trips, drugs, and many excesses. Surprise, nobody died. Phew. Corgan playing all the instruments on Siamese Dream proves he was the essential core of the band. It was Corgan's sound. The key uniqueness of The Pumkins I hear are Corgan's vocals which alternate between soft slow highs and powerful screaming crescendoes. Darcy's wow beauty added immensely to their stage presence. Her non competitive bass riffs stayed out of the band's way. A bass road hog like Jaco Pastorius would have ruined things. James Iha's drone, drone, drone rythym guitar playing was the perfect backdrop for Corgan's lead. What kills many bands after their first two or three albums is they have about eight smash hit singles which fans at the concerts want to hear. But, the band is on the road and playing these same songs over and over on a daily basis for years. It crushes their creativity, so they change, move away from the hits, and it pisses off the audiences. Also, in Corgan's case, he betrayed the on stage rock look when he shaved his head and gained a ton of weight. The Uncle Festus impersonation didn't work. Surrounded by "Yes Men" nobody said, hey, this look sucks! Then came the goofy on stage space outfits, screwball videos, and new band members. If only they could have trapped the "lightning in a bottle" of this performance!
The European music festivals in the 90's, where like the American festivals in the 60's. In fact, the 90's music scene was very much like what I had imagined the 60's being like. I was just glad to have spent my teen years in the era.
There is a time when i enjoy my cheese and there is a time when i want to reflect and enjoy real music- when that time comes I always come back to the SP
I can’t get enough of this moment. What an amazing job creating history. “ I wish, I wish” there was a dedicated video camera per person and 4 versions of this uploaded so we could absorb everyone’s full performance.
this song should of been a huge hit it would of went on any album.there are a lot of great Pumpkin songs wasted on bsides etc hope there is another collection in the future with all the singles and bsides!
+Jose P This was available on the compilation/movie soundtrack " Singles " featuring Matt Dillon , Pearl Jam Members , Alice In Chaines , Soundgarden members playing in that movie . Each band had songs gathered on that superb 90`s compilation .
I wouldn’t say wasted. Their b-sides are a treasure trove. I love this song, but Siamese Dream is perfect without it. And it wouldn’t really fit on any of their other albums. It’s sounds most like Siamese
Should of and would of went?? Bloody hell where did you learn English?? It's should HAVE and would HAVE GONE!! Learn to differentiate between an auxiliary verb HAVE and a preposition OF. For example I should HAVE said something. And a cup OF coffee. Abbreviations can be substituted like I should've said something and she would've been fine. Don't confuse the contracted 'VE with the preposition OF! It's that simple. Now please go forth and use English correctly. People will respect you more and not assume you're an illiterate.
