Headless *HORSEMAN* *Chiron and Guan Yu exist* HiRez: "Loki would be perfect for this!"

I have to agree wit this rant, they can't just keep releasing skins for the same gods over and over, I was just thinking the same thing as you the other day about guan yu or chiron being perfect for a headless horseman skin

As a Guan Yu main from the early days of smite before the reworks, I am so glad you mentioned that out of all people he is the one that should have gotten a headless horseman skin. But instead it goes to Loki as usual. He has just recently got the eso looking skin & the masquerade skin. Not to mention Loki already has a Halloween skin in the Grim Mariachi! So why the fuck does he need another?

@Duke If you really look at Zhong, he only has 2 skins because I don't think it's fair to count his recolors as skins for him. The only two skins he has are his Ghostbusters 1 and his military one so he has two skins. And as an older guy. It's insulting to see other people have six times the amount of skins that he has.

The sad part is ultimately we only ever play with one skin per gods most of the time so there isnt really the need to have that many skins for 1 god in the first place. AND ANOTHER THING THAT IS REALLY GETTING ANNOYING is the reusing of concepts from other skins. Honestly just cause cosmic worked out on agni and sol doesnt mean we need a cosmic skin for all gods now

I'd honestly rather they did a massive update on older base skins. Because the difference between some of the older base skins and the newer base skins is night and day. Smite is starting to suffer from that graphical disconnect that WoW suffers from. Failing that (because no cash, no chance) I would much rather see new skins on skin-starved gods that I don't even play, because it makes the visuals more varied and interesting. For a game that plays so heavily on its gorgeous visuals, the Gods themselves are often really dull because skins are so heavily concentrated.

I always said that the pokemon Erlang Shen skin looks like an old 90s porno version of ash of pokemon

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they have nu wa ANOTHER skin throughout this Odyssey

When I realized the General Nosseris skin was going to be in a huge chest that I basically have no chance of getting, I was pretty annoyed. I was excited for that skin but I can't even get it even if I bought gems, because I would need to spend hundreds of dollars to even realistically have a chance of getting a skin for a god I really enjoy playing. Oh well.

The fact that skins appear in chests with 55 items really makes it harder to get skins we want crammed into chests with recolors, wards and other unimportant cosmetics. I'd love for the pick from 3 options in chests to stay a permanent option. I also think the fact that skins being exclusive to certain chests makes getting certain ones hard because they only appear once in a blue moon after it's introduced to the game in the patch. :( I get Hi-Rez wants to make money but the options shouldn't be so limited. I'd love to buy skins directly so I can get the ones I want instead of just sinking money into a pit. I have all of the DJ/EDM skins because I rolled for the Nox skin and got it as the 15/15 item in the chest. Call me salty or cheap but that's just me.

I think it's also based on what I like to call "easy to create" skins. A lot of the gods you mention who have an obscene amount of skins don't have any complex "additions" to their overall models aside from their weapons. Like in Zhong's case he's overweight AND has his scroll and soul bag so they need to make concepts for those parts of his skin as well. Whereas Bacchus is probably easier to make skins for cause he's just a fat drunk at the end of the day. Then Erlang Shen also has his doggo. It's the same problem that occurs in League where champions with additional models are usually more feared by the art team (I say feared rather than lazy cause they put in a lot of work for the most part). The champion Zyra for example has plants that is unique to her kit, how can you make a good skin for a mage who summons plants without it breaking? And there are A LOOOT of great concepts made by the community, but the art teams of both companies really want to put their "Titan Forge" or "Riot Games" touches to them and that's an entirely different topic. As for the ridiculous amount of exclusive and limited skins? Yea I have no words, you explained it perfectly.

Sad thing is League of legends handles it's skins better. Event skins aren't exclusive to that one moment and can be bought later on without any issues, all tier 5 skins are available 24/7 for direct purchase and seasonal skins always come back for direct purchase during the corresponding season like the Team skins during worlds and all the holiday skins during that time of the year. Hell it's been proven that if the costumer can get the product they want immediately they're more likely to spend money on it. The only repeat mistake riot makes is having champs with way too many skins while leaving other out to dry.

I just don't understand who keeps asking for these nuwa, nemesis skins. Are other skins of these gods bought so extremely that Hirez feels the need to release 12 skins for them?

Beekeeper Zhong skin: his minion is a bee, his ult has bees come out of the cage, his 2 saps honey as exorcism. Why is Lo-Rez always ditching my boy. Zhong was an animal back then, now he’s even better but why is it that gods like da ji already have more skins than my mans?!? It’s honestly insulting... #WhereMyZhongersAt?

Man I didn’t even need to watch the video and I already agree with everything.. my biggest problem is I hate how whenever they make a new skin , they have to make a whole new chest (that doesn’t need to be made) just for that skin. They haven’t made a direct purchase skin for the sake of a direct purchase skin it always has to be shoved in a chest or tied to an event. That was my problem with skins like EDM Nox, I was so excited to get a new nox skin but then I found out it was put into chest for no reason (luckily I won a code for it through an art contest but that’s besides the point)

Another thing is i want them to flesh out some more pantheons.. like i can just out the top of my mind think up 5 different gods that aren’t in the game yet that i would love to see.. for example for the japanese pantheon.. add in a tengu or bloody Orochimaru.. a tanuki based god and i can think of many more along those lines i can also think up several egyptian gods that aren’t in the game yet and that defenitely could have an awesome concept.. like for example Hathor.. seeing as she is a goddess of love that can turn into a giant cat would give them alot of leaway to create her.. Bes the god of babies and pregnant women.. i don’t see a god in the game yet that protects children.. make him a small guardian a bit old vamana esque in stature.. also Horus.. WE NEED MORE CRAZY BIRB LAUGHS... also would be genius if they give a crazy bird laugh to a tengu based god as they are..

"There has to be a point of over-saturation for a god, where the metric of how much they are played shouldn't matter that much anymore..." There is one problem with the argument that you're not seeing. Exclusive skins. You're speaking from the perspective of a whale who owns every skin and wants some for other gods. However, new players can't own every skin. They can't because almost all the skins are exclusive/limited. How does Hirez solve the problem? Release ANOTHER skin for the god that already has a lot of skins. Loki might already have 11 skins, but new players can't buy them. Release the 12th. 2 months later, release another one for the players who join after this one is locked away. This is why they keep getting skins. If all skins were available for direct purchase, skins would be more equally distributed. There would still be differences, but they would be minor compared to what we have now.

What about the new Achilles odyssey skin? Literally the laziest skin in the game. Default abilities with the revenant Achilles voice pack. Absolutely lazy.

Every Smite player has Guan Yu, EVERYONE! Yet he's lacking on the skin front, used to believe it was difficulty with having to concept a horse too... Then Hachiman came out getting loads of skin love showing that theory was bullshit. Nothing wrong with this rant Duke, I feel the same way. Were getting around 9 or 10 skins a MONTH yet they're over saturating us with bullshit favouritism.

The rant that was well over due but happy that it was finally made. I just hope Hi-Rez takes note of it and make more skins for the gods that only have 2 or 3, especially the older ones. I feel recolored skins and golden, legendary, and diamond don't really count considering all gods have them. Over all good rant video. 👍👌✌

The only skin released that I think would be semi okay besides the ones you said would be the Nu Wa one and that just becasue she only has one direct purchase skin so it feels nice to be able to purchase one even if only for a little bit

I’m glad you made a video on this. Personally i think more ytbers who i see as the “voice” more or less for the community should talk about these skin issues so hi rez can better understand. The phrase quality over quantity is something I’ve had come to mind recently when thinking about smite. Hi rez is literally a factory pumping out skins every patch. We get more and more gods while the previous gods get left behind in every aspect (balancing, skins, etc). I think it’s unfair for us as players/consumers to be bombarded with these skins that don’t matter to a portion of the community. I feel as though hirez needs to take feedback on the whole range of issues around skins. It would definitely show smite in a better light in my opinion

Nu Wa technically has THREE recolors. Her RU-vid skin, her volleyball skin, and her space skin. If you include old wa (which was already in the game at previous points) then she'd had four skins that technically shouldn't count. So if you're cutting chaac some slack for having the same skin, just recolored, then you should with Nu Wa too please.

One thing I can say for myself - a skin (or looks in general) absolutely can dictate if I will play the god or not. Zhong, Hun Bats and even Vamana before they changed him from ugly baby into the Avatar, are easily my least played gods. Cuz I just don't care for their looks. And even if they were the strongest gods in the game it wouldn't have changed anything for me. So yeah... skins matter.

Also, one thing I hate is that they just slap "limited" on every 2nd skin they come up with. Before "limited" meant something special, for example Poolseidon raised funds for first ever SMITE tournament during beta. I even made a post in reddit talking about this subject and it got hundreds of upvotes, but the developers ignored it.

when Ah Push got his shadow spirit , zhong kui should of got a spirit skin his whole thing is about ghost/spirit skin . bacchuus got a evil spirit skin that would of been perfect for zhong kui. also they need to update his ghost buster skin it would have fit perfectly

I loved it. Really emphasizes Hirez tendency to go for what's more profitable rather than just providing every character with a variety of skins

8:37 Please keep in mind there is a fair amount of Loki smurfs that just buy that skin with the free gems you get from your level up rewards and quests.

The basic consumer doesn't really care about the amount of skins, but whenever or not they're new. It can be Neith wearing a turd costume and people would still instantly buy it.

It would also be nice to if they finished everyone’s mastery skins. Anhur, chronos, Janus, zong, Kumba, fenrir, Rat, kulkul, geb all need their mastery skins updated.

I would've loved for Geb to have gotten a halloween skin, I talk about it all the time with my friends, even talked about a hoodlum concept from rayman 3 where he'd basically be one of the heavy hoodlums or just a scarecrow who when he rolls his head just gets bigger and turns into a laughing pumpkin, his shield could be little bats or mini pumpkins around his allies, his ult could be him pulling up a pumpkin patch. Also would love it if his voice was like Oogie from nightmare before christmas or Jack

Skins are a huge factor in the popularity of gods. I have played Vulcan a few times throughout the years but when chef Vulcan came out i fell in love with the skin and now I’m a Vulcan main. Lol

So with Paladins this was a big isdue but at a smaller scale obviously. They have just kinda revamped the skin economy. Exclusive stuff is coming back around in discounted bundles for direct purchase through the daily deal system. And there's stuff from all varieties of chests and all that. The direct purchase options have been opened up for new skins as well. Then they have the 'vault'. Not too sure on that one yet. They also just introduced Unlimited skins. Not sure how this will work long term. But it is very expensive. I just hope SMITE will get going in the right direction.

I agree. I love thanatos and bought the skin but once I get my hands on his grim reaper I'm done. And for God sake Athena and nu wa both got like three or four skins just this year loan

Another god that they seem to be tossing out skins for is Sol, she has received a season ticket skin 2 seasons in a row now, i addition to a lot of other skins outside of that. It’s really annoying seeing the same gods get skins pumped out for them, when there are clearly more unique concepts and gods to work with. Good video duke, solid points.

In defense of Nu Wa, only one of her skins is a direct purchase and two of her skins are recolors of two others of her exclusive skins! Also she only has one good skin, which is of course Old Wa (fite me!). I wholeheartedly agree with your rant, why do they keep churning out these mostly exclusive skins for gods who don't need them? Also the proliferation of chests is a big issue related to that topic, it just sems so greedy...

They put out skins for God’s that clearly get played overall, You hardly see any Zhong players so it’s understandable as to why he’s overlooked so much, it’s simple bargaining, if the character is popular then it gets attention.

My favorite was Ravana getting that awesome Scorpion skin just to have it removed after a few weeks and being "replaced" by another uninteresting Disco skin almost a year later(right after the Disco skins for Neith and Ganesha). To be fair Warner Brothers is to blame for the skin removal but I hated how I had to wait so frickin long for my favorite god to get a new skin just to have it be something so unfitting to the character.

I completely agree. I hate the fact that almost all of the cool skins are exclusive. Like I'm willing to pay money for extra gems if it meant getting the skin but I can't because I'm too late for the event or it's damn near impossible to get it through the event.

I respect your opinion and I do share the point where you talked about gods that have many skins getting even more while others stay with 3 skins like forever. Now my "rant": I love how people in comments under most Smite Videos complain about SKINS, that are NOTHING GAME- OR MECHANICAL ENHANCING, being inside a lootbox gambling system. You can get 4 free Chests every 7 days that give you random skins if you're lucky, you get 50 gems every week if you login daily, you can get enigma chest boosters for more free skins, and you can even buy some skins with the ingame currency, not the gems. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE? HighRez needs to get money SOMEHOW. So they do something ABSOLUTELY ALRIGHT and offer you a gambling system that can give you more skins. SKINS. NOT GAME BREAKING ITEMS OR EXTREMELY STRONG ADVANTAGES IN TERMS OF GAMEPLAY. And judging the company, or the game as a whole, is just an easy way to show how stupid you are in general. Y'all need to chill and enjoy the game. If you only care for skins, go to hell and don't insult people who enjoy the game for not hating a company that does everything alright.

I remember some employee said that there is a Zhong skin in the works sometime at the beginning of the year. It better be in the Odyssey.

They even said that a Skin of Zhong Kui was arround the corner (on Twitter) But it's like its pushed away each day/patch They don't have an excuse to not put skins on other gods, specially the relatively new ones, Chernobog came on like...10 patches ago? and He already has 4-5 skins, also, even that Baron Samedi has 2 skins (counting recolor) he is getting a 3rd one on January or arround from the Non-ban challenge thing or Commendation system they implemented. I think Anubis kinda can go safe, cause like you said, He has 4-5 skins that are recolors or relatively similar, and he already has 2 limited skins and also were final rewards behind a chunk of other skins That thing of not knowing what skin to use happens to me with Kukulkan too, there's soo many good skins, that I don't know which to use, I even loved getting most of His skins to only use 1 or 2. And as of the Datamining, apparently He is getting another one on this Odyssey

Theres so many gods that are completely ignored n this really shouldnt be the case. N theres way too many exclusive skins and not enough direct purchase. They need to sort this out

Same could apply to Annie, Katarina & Miss Fortune from League of Legends. Too many skins to choose from and they keep making more for them specificly. There are champs that have like 3 skins or so but never get a new one in decades.

If you mention Chaac having partial copies you should've mentioned that Ymir has three Cacodemon skins and Nu Wa has two recolours of other exclusives she has. Not to mention Old Wa being a pre-existing design and Water Dancer, which I assume was the half-point you were referring to.

Regardless of community desire, this just shows how inept the character design team are if they keep making similar concept skins and recolours.

What would be better is reducing the skins per patch which is from usually 6 to maybe like 2-3 (even tho its gonna be rough for the Odyssey crap), delaying the patches by a week or two ( as someone who doesn't play Smit every single day it feels like there's a patch every second game and new stuff is added) and also rework the old skins, make them look up-to-date and create new ones for gods who have non.

we worked hard campaigning for that chef vulcan skin, of course we're gonna use him just for it.

Since game is fully f2p without any p2w bonuses, i'd be fine with skins available only with real money.

I feel like Hi-Rez could make a lot more money by having all skins (maybe with the exception of the limited) to be direct purchase. Hell, League and HOTS let you direct purchase AND use chests so you can either just buy what you want, or try your luck. I love Smite, but I hate that some of my favorite skins in the game are locked behind RNG. RNG isn't inherently a bad thing, but when it takes weeks to earn gems for ONE chest, or when real money is on the table, it's just a shitty practice.

I'm working on alot of skin concepts for a few gods. I just wish people would see it more and bug hirez about it. I work had on em and hopefully others would like it too!

EXACTLY. When I see a god with a REALLY nice-looking skin, it makes me want to pick that person up and play them more, just to see that skin shine

This applies to diffrent games too, Lux in league of legends has a shitload of skins and still gets more, while Illaoi has about 2 i believe, and yes i know that lux is way more played than Illaoi and i think that playrate gives those characters more skins aswell, As far as i know, not a lot of people play Fafnir or Erlang shen (even tho he was buffed somewhat this season) I think that due to that its a thing that a loki would get way more skins because people want to show that skin off.

Hirez needs to make skins for the gods with less skins, and more people will then play that god. Its simple. But nope, have another nu wa skin when her Xmas one is still best :) And Fuck another Loki skin, shiv me now loki. Zhong, Hun Batz, and Arachne need more skins. for sure. I remember how much we faught for Arachne and Guan to get new skins and then we finally got some with that old Hades event 3 years ago... but then just 1 more skin for each since then...

Even after one year, this shit is still relevant. I couldn't play smite for a long time since I couldn't afford a new PC. But now, is playable on Switch which is cool, but what's really unfair? So many skins are limited, exclusive or only available via rng chests which is total Bullshit! Like, HiRez, don't you want my money or what!? Let us buy the skins we want and seriously stop with the tons of limited Skins!

Chernobog I can excuse even though he is new. Skadi actually has a lot of skins, she got that scavenger one for free if you bought the Spring Split ticket. Not all Nu Wa skins are exclusive, heck you can still get Nu Wa plus Water Dancer skin for free when new. Direct Purchase, this meaning the recolors you can buy for Favor? Limited skins, some gods have 2 of these, one at least has 3 Limited. Some of those gods with a lot of skins are the 11 free gods.

I've honestly sworn off buying skins in this game,either the skin I want is locked behind chests or its for a God I don't even play,league handles their skins better because about 90 perfect of their skins you can directly purchase,the 10 perfect is the ranked skins and the hextech exclusive skins you get with gems,they do have limited seasonal skins but those come back same time every year and their ultimates skins you can just buy straight up instead of spending around 60 bucks in smite for a bunch of skins or stuff you probably don't want

The skin situation in this game is one of the main reasons why I don't actively play it. I love skins, but I can't get the ones I want or gods I want to play have ugly ones. I honestly prefer cutesy skins, but even then those cutesy skins are so hard to get I don't want to put in the effort.

In my opinion. If Hi-Rez were to add a chest for voice/announcer packs and wards that would b great, so that they can just let the skin chest just b for skins, that will benefit us all. If we all are investing money in the store for gems to roll on chests, we should get exactly that which we roll for. It b awesome if they were to add a chest for loading frames an pedestals.

Hearing that Infiltrator was the most used skin is disappointing, since that skin has a distinct gameplay advantage over others and I'm confident that's the reason for its popularity.

This is just a thought, but warframe has a system where they let the players design their own skin, and then the ones voted for the most are put into the game. Smite could try to experiment with something similar to that.

They also REALLY need to rework mastery skins for a lot of gods (Kumba, Zhong, etc.) It's not a high priority for them, considering they won't make any money, though.

My small rant that I’ve been saying is “there’s been so much repeated skins i.e Techn/mech/cyber style skins it makes it hard to actual buy. There’s been 11ish skins this year and that’s absurd. Yes, they are cool and no, I don’t have to buy them but when you want to do these events like the Odyssey but they keep hashing the same theme...it makes me not want to buy
