Good luck for all you negative commenters, this has no price point comparison. It does take some work after you get it to make it really nature ready, but that is a small price to pay to save $20K. I have mine set up now and all together it cost me $11,500.00 with the XL tent, annex, awning, generator and a ground zero. The next nearest setup was $19K with CVT, Patriot was over $36K.
I was the 5th one in the the world to buy a SmittyBilt SCOUT Trailer...it was a PAIN-N-THE-ASS to assemble, especially when you have to rewire the whole thing because it came with the wrong setup...I HIGHLY advise to buy it directly from a dealer already assembled. With ALL the issues I had with the service and assemble, they didn't offer me a SHITtybilt free tent or anything else.
I'm in my 60s and have tried to by american most of my life. I'm a union man and still working. At this point buying a american made trailer is out of my reach, as they run close to 30 thousand dollars. I would like to build my own but the price is through the roof. Find all the part american and then I have to buy a welder , I lost mine in SANDY - not covered by ins. I give up , what to do??
The Smittybilt rep got annoyed when they asked where it was made. He quickly said overseas and moved on. The trailer is 5k for the trailer only, it’s 6250 with wheels and tires. Think about that for a minute, they are charging you 1250 bucks for three steelies that are 50 bucks a piece, and pro comp AT’s that are 150 a piece, so they are charging you 1250 for 600 bucks worth of wheels and tires. That is a rip-off. The price point on the trailer should be closer to 2500-3k.
Not going to argue about the wheels, but please show me where I can find a new trailer with all these compartments for $3000. If you know where I'm interested in buying.
Yea, sorry way to much for a Chinese import trailer. Maybe half that price at best. I still dont understand why these "off road" trailers are priced so high. I can buy a 7x14, dual axle, all steel dump trailer with hydraulic for $7k. No way these type trailers have more time and materials as one of these off road style trailers.
a gopro that can record in 1080, or 4k is $300. New. Or, I mean, turn up the resolution on your phone! You are not doing your brand any favors by releasing this stuff. Let alone the sponsors. I'm sure Smittybilt would hate to see how this is shown.
That was really disappointing to hear. I honestly checked out at that point. I see no reason this couldn't be produced in the states for a competitive price point, especially if you consider shipping from overseas and the constant travel from executives and PITA of dealing with overseas manufacturers.
got sad news for y'all nothing is 100% American (or any country). That's not how the economy works. No business could sustain itself like that. If it's assembled in the US, the parts were made outside of the US. "Made in the USA" is all marketing, no substance. Kinda like Gluten Free or "organic"
I beg to differ. I work for a company that makes all our machined parts here in California. We have to price our products accordingly to stay afloat but by no means are we on the verge of going out of business. California is actually one of the toughest states to claim "made in America". There are heavy penalties for not complying with their standards.
small company might be able to do it, but are your machines, and all the parts from your machines made in the good ol' USA? Where's your raw metal supplied from. In talking about larger scale operations, to make something completely in the US and totally American just isn't feasible nor is it smart.
