Some interesting videos Shane. I think the rifle needs a complete strip down. Most of the gunk will be coming from the cylinder I think. The Chinese seem to fully grease everything up before shipping abroad. You can clean everything up and polish the piston and cylinder walls, plus polish the trigger sear at the same time. You can buy delrin top hat and spring guides online which will also smooth out the firing cycle. It could be a pellet fussy barrel, so all you can do is test different pellets to see what work best. The next time you go down to your range see if anyone will swap a few pellets of different kinds to see if you can get any to group well. The other thing with springers and gas rams is to keep the same hold every time, because that will also cause shots to change the point of impact if you don't get the same hold with every shot. Some of those shots looked very promising with the JSB 18.13 grains. Others to think about would be the JSB Jumbo 15.9, Daystate Rangemaster Sovereign, H&N Field target trophy, RWS Superdome and Superfield. I have a springer and a gas ram. and because I mainly shoot PCPs now days, I don't get the same results with my budget springers as I would like. Your HW rifle just shows what a difference a well made rifle with all the parts already honed in makes to the groups. You should be able to be achieved almost as good a result with your SMK if you smooth it out by cleaning and polishing the internals and using the delrin top hat and spring guides that are available. A decent gun grease for springs would also help to quieten and smooth the firing cycle. Good luck with it. Shooting is not as easy as we think with all these different things to think about, but at the end of the day as long as are having fun, that's all that matters. I have about four or five of my guns out of service at the moment, all waiting for parts that are unavailable due to how old they are and the Covid virus effect on replacing them that need sorting out. It can be a real pain in the arse at times. Keep up the good work. Mark H.
Thanks Mark , I totally agree with what your saying , with everything, I tend not to take any metal mechanical stuff to pieces if I can help it , due to the blood thinners I’m on , I bleed for England even with a paper cut , will use it for a while and when things pick up will get my son to do the jobs you’ve just said , but because I started with springers , yrs ago , the pcp s are so accurate I get bored shooting them it’s almost a guarantee to hit everything below 30:yards , so quiet and smooth , thanks for your input , and comment, Do you have to become a member to shoot at your club ? Fancy popping down one day in the future ? Cheers SHANE
I haven't fired my SMK since I got a dog. (he doesn't like it) . Inspiring me to dig mine out and see if it still works after being untouched for so long
The 18 grain pellets are a wee bit too heavy for a sub 12fpe springer give the lighter 14 grain pellets a try JSB RS or Falcon and some Webley Accupells . Heavy pellets tend to damage the springs on our sub 12 fpe rifles. H&N Field Target Trophy are good pellets too. The accuracy will definitely improve the more you use the gun .
Good video ol lad, looks like it’s shooting much better, still not perfect but the last bunch are much improved over previous videos, hopefully it will get more consistent the more you use it. The audio quality on the vid is spot on and your editing is getting much better, question is where you putting all them goldfish? Stay white 👍🏼
Shane, I think the SMK is showing positive signs. In my opinion, for what it's worth, I think a similar quality pellet, JSB,, or Daystate, but around 15 grains maximum, possibly a little less may be better particularly as the gun is sub 12fpe.Another factor with accuracy might be scope creep. Some springers do suffer from it, and, as a consequence, have an arrester pin to combat it. It's just a thought, not a criticism. All the crud that you keep getting out of the barrel obviously is not going to help. Your are winning and your patience is admirable. A good upload and plenty of solid information about the gun itself. I enjoyed it regardless. Phil.
Thanks for the comment Phil , no scope creep buddy , it has an arrester plate, in position behind the mount and a pin in my scope mount that sits in the gun , the 4 bulls eyes picked it up especially the last 4 shots I did it’s looking very promising and yes could definitely do with slightly lighter pellets, didn’t have much choice misses ordered and paid for them off her eBay account , I asked her to get me some jab exact , I never thought to mention the weight ,, thanks for the comment buddy you take care Shane
shaneweightman I buy from eBay, from a place called Lakeland toys and hobbies Keswick, I think, their prices are very competitive and great delivery times. Keep up your sterling work my friend, I look forward to many more uploads in the coming weeks. All the best mate. Phil.
sorry for the late reply Matt , i had a poor ,gun from the off ., if your willing to tinker and take to pieces and possibly replace internal parts, mainly spring when or if it goes wrong then maybe, better idea is go for a second hand weihrauch HW99s, much better gun cheers buddy take care shane
Hahaha mage me chuckle if nothing else mate. Im guessing u wont be using this one very much. Its either getting sold or whacked against a tree hahaha. It is getting better slowly.
Gary g1fsh cheers Gary , no I’m gonna stick with it, and in the future do what Mark says in his comment , strip it down , clean etc, everyone likes an underdog , cheers buddy Shane
@@shaneweightman good for u mate. I would say thats the best idea strip it down and give it a good clean maybe with some sort of cleaning degreaser. Then re oil it as u put it back together with some good quality gun oil. I have noticed thay u are far mor knowable about this sort of thing than i was when i was into air guns. I only ever had .22 guns the same as this one and i wonder if they would be to heavy for me these days. Im no where near as strong as i used to be. Got to say u are looking very well me old mate its very good to see.
