On October 5th 1975, Pere Marquette 1225 was steamed up for the first time in 22 years at its display site on the Michigan State University campus. This was the culmination of six years of restoration put in by the MSU Railroad Club with the test fire being one of many milestones in this incredible journey... #1225at75

3:29; I like how the Engineer is holding the Throttle, using the Reverser, & whatever those Knobs are called. 1:35; & I like how the Fireman is using the Shovel, & putting coal into the Firebox at the same time.

This is how 1225 should look today. White along the running boards, wheels, and number plate. Of course those flying Number Boards.

MPT 1225 it does now. Or at least did. They just got rid of the white running boards

I love that look too! My only gripe is the white wall wheels, which were pretty much never used on the PM except the beginning of the 1225’s life. Everything else including the number boards is 🔥🔥🔥

I love the rasp that Nathan 6 chime has. I like it a lot better then the whistle it has now

It has the same whistle today, although it’s extremely worn.

To think this was done almost entirely by a group of college students... Something students would sadly never do today.

Mhm They’d rather care about defunding the cops money instead of doing something for history

@@NMCAR2006 Don’t get me wrong, I’m a railfan. But if I had to choose in terms of what had more affect in the long run, I’d rather have college students fight for police reform, and equality for minorities rather than restoring an outdated (albeit beautiful) piece of machinery that went out of style over 60 years ago :/
@NMCAR2006

@@capitollimitedproductions211 well. Minorities have been equal for years now, and not to mention 1225 was in danger of being scrapped so..
@capitollimitedproductions211

@@NMCAR2006 There has been equality in some areas yes, but there was still much work to be done, and even more work created after Reagan screwed everything over with his trickle-down economics 🐃💩 and the War or Drugs, which especially hurt poor blacks and hispanics. And on 1225, while it would’ve been sad to see it go, its sister 1223 is still around, and it’s cousin 765 is operational, with 6 of its sisters on display. Not to mention C&O 2716, another berk, is coming back soon, AND there are more of its sisters on display too!

I’ve noticed this in other videos, how do they push a button and blow the whistle? I know they use a rope currently, but how would the “button” supply steam to the whistle?
@domstrains3984
@domstrains3984 5 лет назад
It wasn't a button but a valve wheel that would be turned to open the valve and steam would go to the whistle
@justahillbilly7777
@justahillbilly7777 2 года назад
@@domstrains3984 You’re thinking about steam to the whistle to be able to blow at all, that then gets regulated by, say, the whistle cord, lever, or button in the cab. The OP is talking about how a button would be able to allow that initial supply of steam to flow into the whistle and produce sound.
