The Steam Railroading Institute is dedicated to educating the public about steam era railroading in Michigan and the Great Lakes region. This includes the preservation of the skills and technology for maintaining steam locomotives by operating steam era equipment and providing the experience of steam locomotives in actual operation.

The last revenue run for a C&NW steam locomotive was with this locomotive in Oct 1957. My dad, Herb Hessil, was the fireman on the first and last leg of that trip ending up in Green Bay WI.
Dual beam headlights are much better than single, as you can see the tracks in the nighttime. not to mention 4014, 148 and 4501 also have dual beam lights.
At the rate the tickets were selling for the North Pole express. The crews I bet were working extra hard to get her ready to go before the runs arrive.
