Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: www.romhacking.net/hacks/3299/
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Hardtype changes:
- HP: 20000 → 30000
- Makakaja → Cadenza (Raises magic + accuracy)
Bishamon is the only real threat here and requires a pretty specific setup to respond to all his patterns, since he can Tarukaja or Cadenza up to 4 times before he attacks. The main thing we need to live through is the dreaded quadruple Cadenza into Megidolaon. Assuming full buffs/debuffs the damage ceiling on this is around 640. Loki might just be in range here but I never saw it kill him. The rest of Bish's patterns are fire/physical attacks that are easy to tank with all the passives we've acquired over the course of the game. The key is to end each round on full HP with his attack fully debuffed and your defence fully buffed. Megaten 101, right?
He also has a debuff script and we really don't want him to get caught in this too much as it's not good for our Luster Candy supply. You may have seen this before, he can get stuck using debuffs round after round without attacking. Sure enough this happened on my first attempt and I used an additional 10 candies over the course of the fight, so I decided I would save more time redoing it for more favourable Dekaja usage than grinding that many candies back.
At level 55 I actually had access to Glacial Blast, but it turns out it's been significantly nerfed. In vanilla it has the same power as Bufudyne with a chance to double hit, making it ~50% more powerful on average, but here its damage is about 1/3 less giving it roughly the same expected damage as Bufudyne but less consistency for a much higher MP cost.
We get another moral support/XP hogging visit at the end of the fight, this time from Arahabaki :)
