Snake Eyes gets an origin movie in an attempt to reboot the G.I. Joe on the big screen. No WAY Hollywood will screw this up.....here's my review for SNAKE EYES! #SnakeEyes #GIJoe
But remember, during the whole movie he wasnt the Snake Eyes we all know, only in the end he became that Snake Eyes. But yeah, the movie SUCKS big time!!
They Reverse-Deadpooled Him! Hollywood: "Deadpool's the murk with the mouth. Let's shut his mouth." Also Hollywood: "Snake Eyes can't speak. Let's make him never shut up." Checks out...
Snake Eyes: seeks revenge for the whole film, selfish, betrays everyone, gets the suit and title of the hero. Storm Shadow: stands for honor and justice, seeks revenge for 30 seconds, gets exiled.
its sounds more like that storm shadow is the real Snake Eyes. they should do a reveal in the end that storm shadow is the real snake eyes and Snake Eyes is Storm shadow. makes it alot better
Well for the big screen, Hollywood nailed it at John Wick and Atomic Blonde for action scenes and cinematography while The Raid is an Indonesian movie that Hollywood should take notes on shooting an action scene. And I feel like this movie could've had a better action if they just chosen a different director like Chad Stahelski, David Leitch, Gareth Evans or even Paul Greengrass who used quick cut editing and shaky cam with style that people could accept it like in the Bourne movies
Andrew Koji was done dirty in this movie. He’s a very good actor and a great martial artist. Hbo’s “Warrior” had better action scenes, I highly recommend it to everyone.
Iko Uwais too, hello The Raid anyone?? Hollywood just doesn't know how to use their martial arts talent. This bullshit shaky cam and quick cut editing is still going? Wtf Hollywood, don't they ever learn? Just send Iko and Andrew to the John Wick movies, the filmmakers know how to use their martial arts talent
They just chosen the wrong director for this movie. Imagine if this movie was directed by Chad Stahelski who directed the John Wick movies or Gareth Evans who directed The Raid movies, those guys can direct action better than whoever this director is that used bullshit shaky cam and quick cut editing
Henry Golding doesn't quite fit the action role...rather a more gentlemanly type figure. The closest he could pull off was in Guy Ritchie's Gentlemen and even then the action scenes were few and far between
Imagine at the end of the movie, Snake Eyes gets punished for the betrayal. In exchange for letting him live and join the clan, they cut his tongue as a punishment. After that, he became the mute mysterious ninja Snake Eyes
Lesson of the movie: "if you do bad things, then you will receive no consequences for your actions and get a promotion". Honestly, it felt like I was watching a Storm Shadow movie, not a Snake Eyes movie. If the next movie ever happens, I'm going to be rooting for Storm Shadow to kill Snake Eyes.
They have Iko Uwais, but Hollywood wasted him again with the shaky cam and quick cut editing?? Damn, Hollywood just doesn't know how to use his talent!!!!
That guy should be one of the biggest action stars right now, and yet Hollywood keeps putting him in bad movies that don’t utilize his talent at all (cough Force Awakens)
@@DaDestroyer1986 work inside China? Wdym? He's working for his own country Indonesia and Hollywood, who gives a shit what China thinks of him, Iko has talent like Jackie Chan, Hollywood just doesn't know how tf to use him even he was hired to choreograph the fight scenes for Snake Eyes but the potential was wasted due to those technical aspect
Now now...lets not get overblown. Iko is very talented, but he is no where near the same league as jackie chan. He'll be the first to admit that. The director of the raid films should be the one directing snake eyes. Too bad he's not ready to go stateside yet no matter how many times hollywood came knocking.
@@caesarspeaks who cares. its an interesting concept that could make a fantastic movie... if done well. theres lots of concepts that came from ridiculous origins that were great movies. the hollywood suit who green lit this movie probably said the same thing. they are just as unimaginative as you are.
He was always my favorite character lol everyone likes Snake Eyes, but Storm Shadow had more character development and personality in the older cartoons and comics.
I quite like Andrew Koji as an actor and stunt performer. I HIGHLY recommend the show 'Warrior' where he's the lead character 'Ah Sahm'. BLOODY GOOD action & fighting in it too.
I hate the fact that a Snakes Eyes story exists in comics and other animated shows and it was badass but it was scraped and turned into a generic movie story.
It really was so well defined in the comics. I will never forget the few times the helmet came off all you saw was the back of a blonde head and people ready to pass out from his mangled face. Great story where an outsider gets taken in by the Hard Master and eventually becomes mortal enemies with his best friend Storm Shadow
Producer: " Hey let's do an Origin movie about Snake Eyes from G.I. Joe! " Writer: " oh Yeah! We can finally bring His Origin story to the big screen! " Producer: " Yes, but we're gonna change everything about him and I want him to talk. " Writer: " well at least we can have him in the suit in the 3rd act. " Producer: " NOPE! I want that at the very end of the movie! " Writer: 😧
Reminds me of Kevin Smith's Superman Reborn script. Producer -John Peters: "Three things: I don't wanna see him fly, I don't wanna see him in the suit, and he has to fight a giant spider in the 3rd act."
Snake eyes the character is a masked mute ninja - if u change that hes no longer snake eyes - some characters shouldnt be main characters - some characters only work as supporting characters
Yes but in this movie the reason he is mute has not happened. When you think about it.. Something like that shouldn't be done in the 1st act of something you want to make a franchise out of. Here is the other dilemma you have with that. You have to retcon how he became a mute. In the original. He was disfigured and his vocal cords slit during the Vietnam War. If hey went with that it would make no sense to get a somewhat young actor. So an idea for a retcon is that is disfigurement happened in any of his missions as a Joe Or they can go the route of the Hard Master being killed. This one seems a bit of a stretch since the point of Hard Masters death was to put the blame on Storm Shadow. And as you can tell Hard Master is still alive. Either way it must have been a hard. Because whichever way you do decide to make him mute. You're going to alienate the fanbase
I'm sure the mute thing will come later. This was to tell the origin of snake eyes. Before becoming a Joe. Perhaps he will take a vow not to speak until he brings storm shadow back to his conscience and ultimately back to his clan
The origin of SnakeEyes should've been an epic tale of 2 friends living life, then parting as enemies. Instead, we got this spit-in-the-face. Sad. ☹️🇵🇭
Tommy or storm shadow had some crazy style and drip through this whole movie in white. I like how near the end I just realized who he was supposed to be. (I am a dunce)
The movie should have been "Storm Shadow GI Joe Origins" Snake eyes was a freakin douche the whole time and there was no motive for Akiko to help him out! They ruined snake eyes.
This couldn’t be any more “This bland action movie with this new ip and new character isn’t gonna make us money.. let’s add GI Joe and snake eyes instead”
@@cable7152 Wonder what else pop culture wise from the 80's Hollywood will ruin? lol Thundercats? Micronauts? Silverhawks? M.A.S.K.? Dungeons & Dragons? Herculoids" Thundarr the Barbarian? Blackstar? Bravestar? Galaxy Rangers? ROM Space Knight? That Voltron movie never made it off the ground. I think I remember reading the script...didnt sound good. They're making a Mobile Suit Gundam movie and a Robotech movie so maybe those are next on the chopping block
@@cable7152 Unfortunately Hasbro has the rights to ROM Space Knight not Marvel. Had Marvels TV show producers in the 80's listened to Stan Lee's proposal of localizing the 1981 live action super sentai Show Marvel co-owned with Toei in Japan called Sun Vulcan, instead of saying 'kids wont like that its too Japanese!' then Marvel would have been the first to make the 'Power Rangers' instead of Haim Saban, which for Haim, ended up being a billion dollar franchise. Then Marvel would have had enough money in the 90's to not almost file for bankruptcy and sell off their comic IPs to various movie studios, and they would have had the money to lock down ownership of Micronauts and ROM Space knight instead of Hasbro scooping them up.
"Hey let's make a snake eyes movie, without the original traits that the people know about him" who thought this was a good idea? from what I've heard - he's not a war veteran - he's not or did not even become a mute - storm shadow's "betrayal" does not even make any sense
Snake Eyes's supposed to be a silent and effective special mission soldier, with a dark past that scarred him literally. I'm not sure where they're going with this movie.
They don't care about anything other than having their own marvel style universe. They just wanted someone dressed like snake eyes in a team up movie down the line and they didn't think it would matter if they didn't act like snake eyes. Hopefully the box office for this movie ends up proving them wrong
@@fubytv731 exactly! You have a badass ninja that actually devoted himself to silence for the rest of his life. We wanted to see how that unfolded. Plus the justification of the Storm Shadow's feud.
I feel like they switched Snake-eyes and Storm Shadows characters up. I’m not a huge Gi joe need, but I have seen a couple of the tv shows, and every time it’s always Snake Eyes that is the one that’s all about honor, while it’s Storm Shadow that’s obsessed with something. They really messed up the whole switching sides, it takes away even more from the characters with how easy they flipped. I mean the movie started with Storm Shadow with the Joes and Snake with Cobra, then ends with Storm Shadow with Cobra, giving no proper explanation of why he’s willing to join the group that organized the attack on his home, and is some what responsible for his banishment.
When you say solo spinoffs funnily enough my first was Solo. Now Han Solo is a character whose interesting on his own, problem is I feel like the original trilogy told us everything we needed to know about him.
"Hey...let's have our own Infinity Stone... worked for Marvel." Just do a grounded in reality GI Joe movie and it will be a hit. Unfortunately that will never happen.
G.I. Joe supposed to be about WAR and armies. Where's the tank battles, aerial dog fights or GIs storming the beaches. What's with all this magic stuff?
@@jcdf2 Have you seen the Gi joe animated movie? There was this secret alien race of snakes and a bunch of other weird stuff. It’s never been grounded.
@@jcdf2 there’s really 2 G.I. Joes people remember. The noble army men charging the beaches, cigars in mouth off to fight the good fight. And the giant 80s neon laser gun snake tank super powers version from the cartoon and comics. You can’t really mix both.
@@metalgrinch I am so disappointed in him (and I say this as someone who liked Chris alot). My prediction is he makes this movie , it bombs and he comes back to doing his normally reviews while crying his eyes out 😅. I think the saddest part is his audience won't call him out.... Imagine complaining every day that you make movie reviews for a living .... Btw, I have seen some of his movies and they aren't good (let's be honest)
Let's take a character that was cool because he didn't talk, was mysterious, badass and you had no idea who he was or why he exists. Here's an idea...let's make an origins movie!
I agree a movie about him can't work or maybe it might if he's used well and go well into his backstory and not foucs totally on him because he's actually has a well done story but idk
@@Elricsedric Why dance around the issue and just be honest? Snake Eyes is a white American comic book character, and no one wants to see him played by a British Malaysian actor, not even Asians. Snake Eyes did even worse overseas than it did in the USA.
Just came out of the theater and felt the same way. 1) This movie didn’t need any connection to GI Joe. 2) The made Snake Eyes unlikeable and you feeling sorry for Storm Shadow. What a shame, because the movie had potential.
@@Bjork4s I've rooted for Storm Shadow since the early 80's lol Snake Eyes is badass, but I've always thought that Tommy was the better character. Perhaps the best Joe character altogether.
For the first time in my life i felt sick watching a movie, it felt more like i am watching a movie while there is a terrible earthquake going on. Secondly it felt like storm shadow character should have been the snake eyes removing the final credit scene altogether making Golding character staying rouge n joining Cobra as storm shadow.
''Yeah, let's make a Snake Eyes solo-movie and change EVERYTHING that makes this character unique and special, turn him instead into a generic Ninja/ douchebag who is backstabbing the guy who welcomes him like a brother and also shoot the action by using that crappy shakycam/200 quick cuts editing style, that has ruined modern Hollywood action movies. What could go wrong, amirite?'' It's absolutely baffling how incompentent Hollywood is. Just hire Ray Park, who played the character perfectly in the first 2 G.I. Joe movies, have him go on a solo-mission which is connected to his past, have some flashbacks who show his background story, hire a good fight/stunt coordinator to come up with some badass fight scenes. Done! It's not frikin' rocket science, you absolute hackjobs!
You should do the 'spoilers after rating' thing more often, there has been alot of movies that you reviewed that I wish you touched on some spoilers. Love your content man! p.s. if you actually read this, you should give Altered Carbon on Netflix a go (the first season's really good IMO)
so growing up reading the GI Joe comics, Snake Eyes was a blonde haired white guy, Vietnam veteran, ninja trained bad ass. and now Snake Eyes is this??? Not to mention that the reason he wears a mask in the first place is his face is disfigured from combat injuries.
sad part is they claimed this was based off that, I might need to read those comics again cause I'm pretty sure this had nothing in common with the comic origin.
@@el_cachorro There is nothing in the comics that correlates with this movie except maybe Storm Shadow is not a "real" villain. I agree with everyone, Snake Eyes is the bad guy in this movie with a bad last minute "redemption". I don't care about the changes they made, if only to improve the story, but they do not.
@@brianng3414 agreed. Then the reason storm shadow becomes a bad guy was so stupid and made no sense. It felt like they forgot til they were almost done filming that they was suppose to make him turn so they came up with something last second. There was so much that made no sense. Can they please just get a director who actually knows what G.I. Joe is.
You know it's bad when Jeremy spends half the video going into why he doesn't like the movie by going over the spoilers. Some of which were in the trailer.
As much as I trash Michael Bay, he should’ve been the one directing the GI Joe series. He did a great job with 13 Hours and handled the military aspects in the first two Transformers movies pretty well.
Plus, the character being given the title of Snake Eyes, as in his most striking feature is his eyes the eyes of a snake unshakeable focus, drive will.
@@mrintel10 of course the actors are good, they even have Iko Uwais to choreograph the fight scene, I wish this movie have a better director who actually understands how to direct action scenes
@@Bjork4s instead, we got that hack who ruined the Divergent saga, Red 2, RIPD (which is Ryan Reynolds's 2nd worst movie), and probably Flightplan (that movie's plot is cliche as hell, but Sean Bean as the Red Herring is the best part of the movie).
@@jakey14344 I thought Flightplan was fine, pretty enjoyable because of Jodie Foster and Sean Bean tho, Red was pretty good, haven't seen and have no plans to see RIPD tho, and I have no words for his Divergent movies.....His best movie in his career was The Captain, I think I'm the one of a few person on the planet that watched that movie
When you were watching Bumblebee, in the beginning when he was talking did you also know that it wasn’t for you? When you saw war machine in the first iron man & he wasn’t war machine yet, did you think it wasn’t meant for you? When you saw Bucky as a regular person in Captain America, did you know that it wasn’t meant for you? Even though Bumbleebee talked in the original transformers stuff … You do realize characters have origins. Snake eye’s origin in the comics was that he could talk before he went & crashed on a plane & got his face disfigured & his throat punctured resulting in him having to keep his mask on & being mute. Origins take time sometimes, stop being impatient, you don’t even know about the character than if you think it “wasn’t meant” for you.
@@zhongxina8426 ohhhh, good call! I know it’s not easy making films but if they had just focused on delivering good action scenes than I think most fans would be happy.
Or David Leitch, say whatever you want about Hobbs and Shaw but the action scenes were pretty helmed perfectly and not to mention his astounding work in Atomic Blonde. He was also an uncredited director of John Wick. Or maybe Paul Greengrass, yeah he used quick cut editing in the Bourne movie but atleast it has style unlike this
@@Bjork4s When it comes to action, I'm staying away from Paul Greengrass. In fact, I blame him for thinking that should've been a standard for filming action.
Honestly, if Snake Eyes had made the choice to betray Cobra earlier on and for a different reason, his character could have been likeable. But it's after he gives them the Sun Stone, and it appeared only because Cobra killed his dad. Like he didn't care about anyone except himself and his dead dad at the start, and as far as I can tell, that's how it ended, besides the whole "I have to bring Tommy back this is my fault." Which yeah, it is, so maybe he's trying to make things right but a ton of people are dead now and he, nor anyone but Tommy, seemed to blame him for it.
If you want to watch an action film where the camera doesn't shake and the editing is good, try watching a movie called "The Night Come For Us (2018)". This film can be watched on Netflix, by the way this film stars Iko Uwais(actor from The Raid film). For your information: this film is a martial arts action film from Southeast Asia, and the action in this film is very brutal and sadistic. If you like brutal martial arts action, you'll probably like this film.
I'm watching this and I'm like....I feel like Storm Shadow should be with the Joes because Snake was SUCH a prick this entire film. I thought he was going to take a vow of silence until Storm Shadow forgives him as like his punishment or something.
Actually I feel like storm shadow’s and snake eye’s roles were reversed here. Literally thought tommy should have been snake eyes and the snake eyes we got should have been storm shadow
Oh yeah the actors was great, they missed a lot of things that I want to know more about snake eyes like vow of silence, how he got into gi joe (properly) and get the suit more meaningful. This need another part but I doubt it will.
Imagine if Jeremy Jahns Reviewed Berserk, considering he liked Castlevania and the creators admitted that they want to do a Berserk adaptation and S4 had a clear Berserk Reference RIP Miura
Hollywood kinda forgot how to tell stories that people want to hear and will remember. Oh well too much entertainment out there to be watching schlock.
I thought it was good for what it was. My prediction is providing it receives a sequel he'd probably become disfigured and not talk anymore. I can most definitely understand why there would be massive disappointments considering it's a slow and methodical build. But Snake Eyes is a character that didn't need an origin story. They should've just did a complete reboot of G.I. Joe.
You and Chris Stuckman are my favorite reviewers even tho he may not be a reviewer for much long. Anyways. I am just out here barbequing and I want to say that I love your energy in every video and you are hilarious and awesome. You da man!
Anybody else thinking they only shat this project out to keep the rights to GI Joe?….similar to Fox shittin out that fantastic four reboot before caving to Disney 🙄
Paramount owned every Hasbro property. They have a long collaboration, this was never about right issues. They could make a good GI Joe movie with a better writer and director just like Bumblebee, Bumblebee was a great Transformers movie because of its writing and directing

I was really eager to watch this movie for Storm Shadow, since I loved Lee Byung Hun and his portrayal, so, when I heard they cast Koji because of his experience in martial arts, I was like "yeah! this is going to be awesome!", but I felt him wasted, it seems they put more effort on Golding and didn´t make any making Koji shine, this Storm Shadow was more dramatic than anything and the injustice towards him was a bit lame. I don´t know, I came out hating Snake Eyes and preparing to get revenge alongside Tommy. Oh well!
