I live in rural Central Thailand and get to see aspects of Thailand that Thailand only locals see 4K. On my daily walks I regularly see giant Monitor Lizards and snakes, even deady cobras.
For a while now I have taken pictures and videos of the interesting and beautiful things that I see while on my walks. I have put them all together for this video which covers everything from authentic Thai rural life to stunning scenes of nature and yes...snakes and giant lizards.

This popped up today Karl. Absolutely loved it. Love the nature. Every day you see something different where my wife comes from. Whole variety of snakes, water monitors, scorpions, crabs, different birds and an albino squirrel. Great video.

Hi Karl, I am trying to figure out where it would be best to spend the months of September and October here in Thailand, and I was considering Chiang Mai, also because Bangkok might still be subject to floodings during those months (as far as I know). Do you think that would be a good idea? I am new to Thailand and have only stayed in Phuket so far, so really any place will be new for me.
@karlsthailand
@karlsthailand 3 года назад
First thing I would ask is…is there any need to stay in one place? Thailand is pretty easy to travel ‘on the fly’ no need to book much in advance if at all. If you feel drawn to Chiang Mai then go there, it’s a great place and more importantly (for me anyway) a great base for further travel.
@armyman3666
@armyman3666 3 года назад
@@karlsthailand Thnak you for your reply. I don't need to stay in any specific place, and I am considering estabilishing a semi-permanent base in Thailand, so I am trying to figure out which parts I like and which parts I don't, but as everything is completely new to me the main difference at the moment would be given by the seasonal weather in one area compared to another. I really want to explore Bangkok, but given the covid situation there and the weather in that period, is prob not the best option, so I though Chiang Mai might be a good alternative, as I haven't visited any of them anyway.
@karlsthailand
@karlsthailand 3 года назад
Yes, Chiang Mai is definitely somewhere you should see and I agree that right now might not be the best time to see Bangkok. Don’t be in a hurry though, Thailand is a big country, the more you see of it the better you will be equipped to chose somewhere to settle down.

@karlsthailand
@karlsthailand 3 года назад
I see them a lot as you can imagine. I try to ignore them but have learned to always look to see if they try coming up behind you. If they get too close I will run at them, they always instinctively turn and run for a second. They do bark and come back but they are wary of you from then on not as bold. So far so good.
@chrish8903
@chrish8903 3 года назад
@@karlsthailand I do find the dog issue to be a major annoyance. It limits my walking sometimes because I don't have a strategy to deal with them. Easier to be on a bike or motorcycle. You might consider doing a video on dogs.
@karlsthailand
@karlsthailand 3 года назад
One difference between the UK and here is that in the UK if you pick up a stick a dog will wag it's tail thinking you want to play fetch, here they will run away. My best tip is they if they actually start getting near to you run at them for a second or so, it puts a bit of fear into them, they will still bark and follow you but they are on their guard and won't get too near. Certainly here if I am approaching a place where the dogs act aggressive I will pick up a large stick, just the sight of that keeps them at a safe distance.
@chrish8903
@chrish8903 3 года назад
@@karlsthailand Cheers. I think the dogs can smell my fear so I'm not sure if the run towards them would work. I have tried the fake rock throw which did work. I may simply carry a collapsible umbrella with me at all times just in case a stick proves hard to find.
