For the last few years I've been wanting to acquire some of the Craftsman Professional Made in the USA long needle nose pliers, but it just didn't work out, so enter Snap-on instead.
I'll talk about the Craftsman USA options that were available, the issues I ran into, and then dig into and review this brand new set of Snap-on Talon Grip Needle Nose Pliers.

The craftsman pro red handle needle nose and slip joint pliers have the nicest and most comfortable handles. You have an early long nose plier, later units had curved jaws between the tips and the cutters.

You might be interested in Williams brand tools. They're owned by Snap-On and are also made in the USA. Also a bit cheaper in terms of price if I remember correctly. Main caveat is they are targeting industrial supply so it may be more difficult to get them.

Ah good to know. Yeah I see that Snap-on Industrial is now Williams as you mentioned. Thanks for watching! 🛠️

Great video I have some of the craftsman professional series but switched them out for snap on because you can't get them warranty anymore make sure you put something on the snap on they tend to rust but are the best pliers in my opinion thanks for sharing 👍

Thank you for the advice on oiling, maybe some 3 in 1 oil lightly or something similar. So far the pliers have been great to use and I really like them. Thanks for watching! 🛠️

Loved the video and am in the same boat as you with the red and black Craftsman Pro series, I wish I had picked them up when I was building my set, I don't think anyone thought Sears or Craftsman was going to fall as far as they have so I just assumed I'd get them later. A note at one point I think there were still selling the black and gold longs as red and black handles weren't available in the long, I don't think those launched at the same time as the others so they may be a little rarer adding to the price. I used and abused the cutters in that set and wanted to get a replacement pair, I was shocked to find they were either non-existent on ebay or going anywhere from $60-100. That's 100% Snap-On prices.

Yeah it would have been nice to go back and been able to buy all 3 for around $70 right? 😁 It seems the red and black Professional long nose are more rare than the black and gold versions. They both seem to be most avaliable from the 2000ish-2010ish time period overall. I can't recall which I had seen in the store more. The black and red professional pliers in general were around often, but the long versions may have been more specialty or catalog order and not as much in the stores. Thabks for watching! 🛠️

Snap on is second to none with their needle nose and slip joint pliers, at least in the automotive world.

Yeah the construction is solid, I've already used them a couple of times on the car and they were great. Thanks for watching! 🛠️

Before I bought snap in pliers/side cutters and talon specialty pliers I didn’t know what I was missing. Kinda like driving a ford fiesta for 15 years, then jumping into a McLaren..

Yeah the Talon Grip is very nice and makes holding on to the pliers better than other styles. I'm happy and this is a quality Snap-on set, thanks for watching! 🛠️

Yep actually a great article on Garage Journal about all the different manufacturer markings on Craftsman tools indicating who and where they were made (Danaher, WF, etc.). Thanks for watching! 🛠️ www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/craftsman-hand-tool-manufacturers-date-ranges.84807/

No lol. They did at first but it’s a trick now. They’re closing everything made in USA.

The black and gold craftsman professional are ok, but not snap on quality imo… I might have to go through the tool box and sell my old ones haha.. I can’t believe what they are going for!
@TheEclecticHandyman
@TheEclecticHandyman 8 месяцев назад
In know it's crazy what they are selling for and I believe it's because back in the day we all bought so many traditional sized sets it was less often people bought the long ones so there are just less floating around, especially in decent shape. Thanks for watching! 🛠️

Why is Craftsman USA going up in cost and snap on going down in price I wanted some double box wrench set and Craftsman is 300 then or snap on for 200
@TheEclecticHandyman
@TheEclecticHandyman 9 месяцев назад
Isn't that the truth! Those double box wrenches are not too badly priced for SAE sets, but metric USA Craftsman ones like you said pull a big premium. That's another one I'd go Snap-on if Craftsman gets nuts with prices. Keep an eye out because once in a while a nice set of double box end come up for less than $100. I haven't bought them myself yet because I have literally 6 sets of wrenches that are all about the same so I'm hesitant to buy more. Thanks for watching! 🛠️

Wow , it's hard to believe tools are so expensive. Looks like you have a needle nose for any job you might come across.
@TheEclecticHandyman

They do make much cheaper versions of this style of tool, and honestly they'd be OK overall. I really like the USA made tools, and so I went premium for these as I know they'll last forever. Thanks for watching Rita! 🛠

Oh no not at all and you are right. Honestly almost all tools made these days are machine designed and made so variances and quality has a lot of parity. I have a little old fashioned in me that like the USA Made tools, but completely recognize that there's quality in other tools as well. Thanks for watching! 🛠️

@TheEclecticHandyman a great example of this is the usag wrenchs 🔧. Mac rbrt are 309. While the usag coming from the same factory out of tiewon are like 125.

Keep the metal oiled on the snap oms they like to rust. Or put a thing coat of penetrol and it will self level and dry like a clear coat and protect them for a couple years depending on how hard you use them, and that Z is a 3 meaning they were forged in 2023
@TheEclecticHandyman
@TheEclecticHandyman 9 месяцев назад
Great advice thank you - that's probably why they came oiled too for protecting that coating and preventing rust. Thabks for watching! 🛠️

@@TheEclecticHandyman I just got deep in the snap on rabbit hole when I started working at my uncles machine shop earlier this year and already got myself a used box for 100 bucks off Facebook and abunch of pliers lol, the pliers and ratchets are what I hyper obsess over they are just so nice and will literally just about last forever and if they don't they will swap them out for a new pair.

@@DownHillgamer My only other Snap-on collection is the old style click type torque wrenches. They are awesome. I have 1 video on my channel for the 3/8" version and 1 coming sson for a 1/4" I got.
