Hey Zach, I've been loving your videos lately (I should have clicked on them a long time ago). You bring some great innovations to tennis media and I'm totally binging your content.
Found your channel yesterday and i've thoroughly enjoyed your content, great reviews and in depth look at the shoes inside and out. I must say i was wondering how you were going to sew the tongue on and was expecting needle and thread but when you started using surgical equipment and stitching techniques that cracked me up like duh why did i expect anything different fromt the start given you're a doctor 😆😆
Welcome aboard! Glad you're enjoying the content- yeah I have shoe repair kits at home but im just so used to surgical instruments i work much faster with them- plus it adds a bit to the build i think
This is my favorite new series of videos, I would love if you keep making these videos, would it be possible to take parts of the ASICS ff 2 and solution speed 2 and put them together
So I was getting annoyed at my slipper tongue ubersonic 4s and realized they were getting harder and harder to tie down well. I had an old pair of the courtjam bounce and decided to take that tongue and do what you did here. After that and changes the laces it plays unbelievably well. Best shoes I've ever put on. So many poor choices from these big companies lol.
I really enjoy your self customized tennis shoes, just for kicks u should try to use the dressed shoe tops n mix with tennis bottoms, they will be cool to walk around, I used top soccer leather and mix with colehaan’s bottoms for my experiment, cheers, keep up the good work
Nice little video here! Always love watching your vids in the morning :). I wish shoe providers would just sell the PE models as well. would increase their profits + make consumers happy
A very good concept. This is probably why Nadal asked for that longer more sturdy custom made tongue. Nike should upgrade the nxt shoe into a similar setup.
I was wondering the same thing , shoe Tongues are hella important for comfort. Damn sucks we can’t improve shoes easier I don’t know how to sew and don’t a bunch of old shoes
Lol you are at it again customizing. When is one of the big brands going to sign you up for expert consultation? Can't be too many foot doctors that love and play tennis who can provide technical feedback the way you do. I've seen behind the scenes with TW vids at shoe design but this seems to mostly be about everything other than true consideration for best comfort and support etc for a player.
Great vid! 💪🏽 I wonder how such a powerful company with all labs, engineers, testers and other opportunities cannot find the right, obvious and really easy solution to they top shoes. Strange 🤷🏽♂️
By the way, I compared my Jordan Ultra.Fly with Cage 3 and they are quite similar in shape and design, but Ultra.Fly is a much more comfortable shoe. A whole new league. It would be cool if you'd somehow combine Cage 3's outsole with Ultra.Fly's midsole and upper. Not sure it's possible, but still.
I am looking for most comfortable shoe for walking, once I had a Nike tennis shoe very long time ago all leather white ,dark green inside and air max under whole shoe ,it was amazing, they don’t make them like that anymore…
I love that colorway, that jade stripe in the middle is a beauty but seems like the shoe is bad anyway I would like to try it. If I use Cage4 in size 10 waht size shoud I get the Pros and the NXT? Thanks
Best shoe you tested without a lateral flank. Bought the asics resolution speed 3. The lateral flank makes a pressure point on the outside of my right foot. Quite painful. Preferable a 3 piece toung. Thinking os the nike gp turbo. What you recomend?
Hello, Zack if you are swapping out a tongue on a size 12 pump?...does the replacement tongue have to be the same size 12?...I had given up on my paydirt pumps before I saw this video...thank you!
@@FootDoctorZach...Thanks for your very prompt reply...the tongue has a heavy rubber surface that holds the control to deflate it...FYI the shoe is a reebok paydirt pump from 2012 in 49ers colorway...Is this type of restoration/repair something that a regular cobbler would attempt?...or is this a very specialized service?...the way you just handled the swap in your video makes me think any cobbler could do it...thoughts???...
Also, should this be a fix to the court ff2? Or their one piece internal bootie does it better than these? Intended/part of the design that works together as should or they also tried experimenting with the trends? Coz I was thinking maybe snip it and perhaps add a small wedge of a band (perhaps on both external sides) or tongue, for added room/comfort or also replace the top portion of the bootie altogether. ? Do the laces don't work in this model like the ff2 synch into place more snug/comfortable?
If disagree on the bootie tongue tightness , perhaps coz I had to go a size down coz they run hella long for me and still does, much room to the tip from the toes, not as much, much more manageable. I usually have a thumbs width room. My size was almost 3 finger widths. I was shocked
I had same problem. I ended up sticking a woman nike tongue over the original neoprene one. Since day 1, presuring laces over neoprene was stressing. not good pressure and neoprene broke by friction in 4 games. Glad I watched this video to solve situation. Total disaster from Nike.
I don't like the fact that nike is just selling the signature of rafa on the cage 4 when I put 140$ to purchase rafa shoe, I want to pay for the comfort, that Rafa's feeling not just the signature.. even when he played with the cage 4 it was not 2 pieces of tongue !! It's was a regular one so I'm very disappointed that I can't buy rafa shoe..
Do they expect us to pay price of decent bicycle and then buy one more such pair of shoes and spend like 30manhours combining them like mad scientist? High price range nike should not feel worse than 30$ shoes from unknown/no brand
Usually they had lower tier models of the same design with different/old tech, so when u "moved up" the same family would feel like an upgrade from below in every facet of the shoe. now Nike are just mad scientist experimenting left and right and see what sticks, but doubt they care now lol as long as they sale, and not all sales are an indication it was liked. Guess when a certain level of material quality is reached, it's harder to improve so throw w/e? But then I can also say all their midsole geometries they do now scare me and find them imbalanced and unstable. These seem one-offs, is this a variation of the vapor cage Frankenstein 4s? As even the vapor cage 4 barely looks like belongs in a cage line and let alone a vapor one. do they have Lower tier options? Perhaps the lower tier now have the proven tongues instead of the flashy new "you better have/experience this! Coz we said so!"
From a visual stand point this shoe is half & half. Don't think you could create a more beautiful and ugly shoe at the same time. The outer side looks very visually appealing but inner side is quite the opposite, super ugly! That rubber toe guard is a bit of overkill, sure it's a good thing to have but does it have to stretch all the way to foot arch? I mean when are you ever going to drag the arch of your foot? I want these but every time I look at that inner side it gets worse. The price just concludes it for me. It's a NO!
