One of the largest screw-ups in music history... the band members dismissing Kelli Ali, essentially destroying what they had on the basis of ego. A failure to recognize what fueled the band, what made it special. Hint, it's not the instrument playing. She continues to mesmerize me, and I hope we'll be seeing more of her soon.
Or it just keeps going in circles and since Gen Z copy everything 90s, it comes across as ahead. I think it was very contemporary, but it aged well since it's just good artistic work.
@@michellebeckstrom6110 Same. Miss the sense of freedom and general vibe of everyone chilling regardless of background. Society has become so divisive now - it feels like how I imagined the 50s and early 60s to be.
I love how the arrangement is completely different than the record, but it's also strangely very much in-line with it as well. It's interesting because the live configuration of that five-piece lineup sounded a lot more like the next two albums. They were much more organic on stage than what you hear on Becoming X. Boy, anyone who caught them in person during that era is really lucky.
A session vocalist became the face of the band, it wasn't like beth from portishead or Lou from lamb where they were part of the band kellie was literally hired to sing by the band's manager. Thats why Chris got rid of her he regained control of his project.
Been there for last 2 nights and they all smashed it - frank got lost in the crowd night one and had a girl let going last night - cookie is killing the drums and jones and Matlock nailing the sound - more dates to come and well worth the trip for anyone 👍
Seen the pimps with Ali amazing seen them with corner walked out after 2 songs garbage what could have been if your ego had not got in the way and you had ideas above your talent level….a band consists of more then 1 person…..
When I'd listen to this in its original 1996 release year, to me, this tune was just a cool song to listen to. But nowadays, and with this live version it's gained power and become a luxurious, elegant classic
Don’t blame her, they couldn’t write music that could encapsulate her potential… that’s okay, neither could she. As an enjoyer of (her)(their)(his) era, I can admit, I genuinely don’t enjoy either artist separately. There was a certain magic that I’ll appreciate. As much as I would love for it to come back, I would never force it. It won’t be that same, this band is synergy and synergy alone. In my opinion… I’m very thankful for them.
All of those comp albums like Budha Bar or Hotel Costes were one of the few ways to find cool music, specially in my country Colombia where everything arrives like ten yers later haha
you no honestly I think they got rid of kelly alli cause she was more famous then they were and they knew it .... if theres one woman from the 90's 2000ish area that automatically pop's up in my head it has to be her .... she had this look and amazing voice and still does ..... and sneaker pimps knew it..
