sniper elite games are always fun. it’s great to just kill some time and chill. they really found a formula that’s straightforward yet highly replayable
I hope that was me, I entered a match with two players and snipped one from the radar and got into a cat and mouse situation with the second where I won by time out cause I just couldn’t get him
Absolutely loved SE4. Every mission always took me, at the minimum, 3 hours to complete. Intentionally. And I love SE5 so far. Glad to be getting the same game with some tweaks and larger maps. I just hope SE6 doesn’t take another 5 years to make.
You could argue though that taking 5 years to make means the end product is of good quality. Compare that to COD's formula or arguably Sniper: Ghost Warrior. Both have several underwhelming titles especially the former.
@@nichickmet there is both suppressors and subsonic ammo I'm pretty sure. Subsonic ammo being dead quite but using a silencer still silent but not completely. I think I'm not 100% sure tho
Currently on mission 5 now, enjoying a lot. I just hate that most of the time, when I pressed the action button to open a door, there's a 1 second delay before my character opens the door. I also hate when multiple items are close together and I can't choose which one to pick.
There should be an animation for when you open the door while crouched. It's weird how he stands up just to open the door and then crouches back down again.
My friend was telling me when we played co-op survival that he felt like everything had a 1 second delay even enemies getting shot in the head would stay on their feet for a second
I'm looking forward to playing this on Gamepass, loved SE4 and I'm glad to hear I'm going to be getting a lot more of the same. Always love playing it slow and steady, being methodical. Makes for some really intense moments and some insane long-distance shots.
@@037anshdev2 it looks good on series X. I don't get these clowns saying the graphics are bad. Obviously it's not rdr2 level graphics cause Rebellion is an Indie game developer. The maps are also beautiful.
Been a sniper elite veteran since 2005, and completed the campaign and grinding for All the guns atm, every now and then I hop on axis invasion, and man.... what a gameplay experience, once you get the hang of it it's so fun hunting other players down 10/10 quality game 🤙
I have to really hand it to the devs! The Sniper Elite games always do a great job of balancing innovation with familiarity. Each game feels like an improvement on the previous game without feeling like a totally different game. Some people's complaints about the games seem to be that they just feel the same, but that's actually what I like about them. The devs know what makes these games great and they just focus on refining those things!
I've been an avid player of the whole Sniper Elite series from the days of the PS2 through to xbox360 upto PS4. Absolutely love all the games so far and looking forward to playing this one. I haven't bothered with multiplayer In a long time even though back in those days I had a huge amount of friends throughout the world in other games but not Sniper Elite. Absolutely enjoy setting traps and just watching from afar many soldiers being taken out. Awesome series. Although an entirely different game the voices sound similar to that of Splinter Cell the early games of. Excellent Vid Thanks.
I wish more games would embrace sticking to what fans love and adding more. Look how well its worked for the souls games. Dice should really take the hint.
Ok but can we just appreciate how the recommended video thumbnails are perfectly timed with the in-game sounds at the end of the video? Gameranx deserves kudos for that.
I will say that sniper elite 5 is totally worth buying! Don't listen to any of those negative comments because they are not true, this game has no problems.
Rebellion produce some fantastic games, I remember playing the first Sniper Elite and being blown away by its depth and tactics required game play. Other worthy mentions; World War Zero, Medal of Honor Underground, Shell shock 2, rogue warrior, Black Hawk Down etc awesome stuff. Looking forward to getting this one, invasion mode sounds fun.
Been enjoying the Invasion, half the time the player has died before I got there. Got one game with a co-op and it was funny killing one and the other one just popping up out of nowhere and scaring me a bit. Also had fun as the invaded player, only been invaded a few times and only one stayed long enough for a confrontation, but I almost had him with the pistol and it was just fun! With Game pass this is a 100% must try imo.
I've never bought one of these games before but I got four on game pass and absolutely loved it and I love this one. It definitely isn't a game I would go out and buy but it's definitely worth downloading if you have game pass
V2 is my favorite for the setting and the feeling it gives you when you play it, but overall I have to go with SE4 hands down my favorite SE game I logged so many hours into that game.
@@mylesdesertfox3957 It's a co op mode for up to 4 players who battle against 12 increasingly tough waves of enemies, including vehicles on some maps. On the highest difficulty levels - the only way to experience it, frankly - it's very challenging and cannot be defeated by simply winging it. You need a good team that knows the maps very well and the various weak points and pitfalls. There are many subtleties to Survival, many of which are not immediately obvious, so it rewards practice. Once you've really got it down, it's phenomenal - in nearly 45 years of gaming, it's one of the most tense and exciting games I've played. Single-player Survival is also great...a lonely and very challenging affair. Check it out - it really is that good. 🙂
Loved 4. The survival mode so much damn fun. Played certain missions dozens of times in the campaign too. The variety this series offers you for killing is great, Hitman was a solid comparison I'd say
@@swekiwi4517 I forget if it's the actual name. But basically you have like 15 different waves of enemies and a rotating base you get incentives for guarding
@@swekiwi4517 exactly. In 5? Not yet. But it's 3 bases and 3 waves now so I'm guessing they're pretty long. I did play co-op with my buddy last night, that shit was fun as hell, luckily the game is cross platform and cross generation, first game we've found in a while we could play together
I appreciate your tone and presentation style. I feel like a friend is telling me about the game. I will certainly buy it now that I have watched your video.
Was wondering when there was gonna be a before you buy on this one and was lucky to see that it had just been uploaded 20 minutes ago! Always the most honest and realistic perspectives
I have to say it's a great game, and the more I play it the better it gets.. It's the first time I've ever got a Platinum Trophy on a PlayStation game..
Fun fact: The CEO/founder of Rebellian Developments the game company that makes Sniper Elite is a youtuber who makes videos on medieval history more specifically how people lived, horses, weapons etc.
@@KimonatorFilms As long as Ubisoft is Ubisoft I don't hold any hope it is any good and not a live service or other shenanigan's until proven otherwise
The only thing i don’t like is when in sniping mode. The red auto adjust reticle doesn’t shrink when you aim an area for a specific amount of time. Unlike Previous games. Since the V2
@@PensFan35 I know and figured that. It isn't looked back upon as a good thing like WW2 is. However with what you said about Iraq and Afghanistan... There's plenty of games taking place in the middle East, though depending on the game they might be a bit fictionalized. I don't see a reason they can't fictionalized Vietnam a little bit.
@@PensFan35 Vietnam was not a war crime lol. It was a proxy war to prevent the soviets from expanding. A war crime was the Iraq war and we have plenty of games referencing the Middle East. Lol
Sniper Elite V2 holds a special place in my collection, and I can't explain why. But I bought and enjoy them all. Rebellion Owner and CEO Jason Kingsley is just a cool guy as well. With his own, completely unrelated channel about medieval stuff. That's someone I want to support.
I found in 4 it was very hard to get through a mission without alerting them.. Like a lot of guys in one certain area with no real way to pick them of one by one
Agree 4 took it to the next level in overall difficulty in certain missions I could spend almost a half hour trying to plot a way to route 3 or 4 men without being spotted or alert the crew it was engaging with its difficulty spikes !
@@nicholasholloway8743 Agree, guys must be getting paid to say this game rocks, because it doesn't. Feel the same way about 4 but the AI in 5 just sucks bad. V2 and SE 3 were more fun.
It’s good to see stealth games come back and see it actually be good. I hope this shows other developers that the stealth genre is worth investing in showing that people are still willing to play these kinds of games
@@panscrank this is a stealth game. Just because it doesent completly lock you out of going guns blazing doesent take away the fact you can go full stealth
Very little customization but you definitely unlock gear as the game goes on. new attachments, bullet types, and new guns. There’s also a whole ass skill tree now
@@simonvanmaanen4015 In SE4 they didn't have a ton of customization per se, but they did have character packs and unlockable skins that were better than the original one.
Axis invasion is the closest thing to playing an enemy at the gates type game. I’ve killed 36 snipers, and I’ve gotten so into it I’ve found myself reciting Resnov from WAW while I hunt the enemy. I’ve even raided CO-OP players, shot down 1, incapacitated him, and used him as bait to lure out the other. This mode is great
It gets so hectic being invaded. I’m playing on hard and trying to stealth run the levels. Got invaded and blew my whole level to hell. But damn was it a climactic fight lol
Been waiting for this, would have bought it for 100usd. Thanks Jake love your work 👍🏽I agree with you so often even when it doesn't make sense like liking sniper 3 best!
Important thing to note about multiplayer invasions is that it instantly saves your game when they enter and offers for you to reload there after the fight. So if you’re worried about it completely derailing your mission you do basically have a Time Machine
Eventually I grew to love SE5. When first playing it, it felt very clunky with camera and movement, more so than I remember from previous installments. The very first mission also didn't help the cause, I hated it. The AI were ruthless in hearing me and detecting my position. But I kept on pushing through, and after that first mission (which took me 3,5 hours) I loved every minute of it. I still don't like mission 1 though for some reason. But yeah, there's lots to do, lots of ways to approach your goals, gorgeous locations, x-ray cams that simply do not get old...it's a blast. They can keep making these games and I'll keep buying and playing them.
Same here, first time through missions took anywhere from 3.5 to almost 5 hours sneaking around. Worst AI of all the games in my opinion. Rubble and Ruin (mission 8, I think) is my favorite, reminds me of SE V2. The AI is frustrating though, getting on and off ladders sucks, and a lot of invisible walls (stuff you can't vault, paths you can't take), and I got killed a couple times thinking I could go a certain way and couldn't. Fun game, not enough sounds masking IMO, you are going to get discovered a lot and expect to have to relocate and plan it out, place booby traps when you can. Overall, SE3 and 4 are better games, more fun, but 5 is okay, I play one or two missions a lot, but SE 3 and 4 I play all the missions.
Playing on PS5, with the variable triggers it lets you ADS in third or first person pov depending on how far you push the triggers and it took a bit to get used to but it’s such a cool extra little feature. The missions feel so much bigger and I love it. My friend and I play co-op and I think it took us a couple hours just for the first mission. Can’t wait to see how much crazier it gets
My one complaint so far is the blocked-off areas of the maps. Especially for a game where a lot of play revolves around sneaking, some of the paths that look like they *should* work are blocked off. Sometimes without even having something visible. The devs just decided that they didn't want you going that way. Or boxes that look like they'd be a great way to climb over a wall, but you can't interact with them.
The thing I absolutely adore about these games is they can please most players. You want to run in and blast some nazis? Go for it my dude. Want to sneak through the whole misson, knifing people and silently capping people with a suppressed gun and hide their bodies? Heck yeah man go for it. Want some extreme distance sniping? They gotcha way covered. Want an ez to play shooter for some mindless fun? Extensive difficulty options baby. Want basically no hud, full on immersive mode? Authentic. Want PvP? Yeah dude go for it invade someone or match into a arena. I love it, few games can satisfy any craving I have like Sniper Elite can.
Whoever’s read this, I pray that whatever your going through gets better and whatever your struggling with or worrying about is going to be fine and that everyone has a fantastic day! AMEN
I've done a few invasions myself, and it is pretty fun. Although, I think the invader shouldn't have access to the secondary weapon. I do feel that the odds are stacked a bit too heavily on the side of the invader whilst they have access to the full kit. Besides that though, its great fun being invaded and being the invader.
Nah, the invaded has way more advantages so long as they don't go guns-blazing and play moderately stealthy. They have access to phones with no cooldown, a compass that shows invader's location and a mechanic that highlights enemies through walls with no dowside. Not to mention they can resupply and carry more items than invaders.
If only this review was remotely honest. Maybe he should spend less time bending backwards to the devs and actually compare it to SE4, which it vastly fails to meet the standards of.
I liked sniper elite vr. especially the narrative way the story is told, very immersive and hours of tense and sometimes nervewrecking gameplay, Plus the realistis reload feature which makes it one of the toughests games ever,
Wow! Thanks for the review and in general thanks for the "Before you buy" video! :) Since I found you're videos I've been entertained watching your content and I like a lot when you talk about older games too. I think I'm about your age, thinking about the games you guys have played, and it's nice just because there's a lot of games you have played and some of them I have of course played. But yeah, just wanted you to know that you keep me entertained every day and you're doing a good job and you're modest, honest, down to earth, straight and real about everything you decide to talk about. HUGE respect there from that! :D It was VERY nice when I commented two of you're videos both times about DayZ, and you quickly mentioned it after that in a video, thank you! ☺ It felt nice, and I subscribed quickly after that. Sorry for blabbering this much, but wanted you to know! :D I liked Sniper Elite 3 alot and I haven't even tried 4. But I think after this video next month I'll buy this game now! It looks great and good improvements has been made since and I spot the same good things going on there with the improvements in everything so.... I'm getting this one! :D Thank you for your effort and you really do have the coolest job ever, so jealous, in a good way :D Keep up the good work!
Got it on day one put about 4 hours in to the first map and absolutely loved it.. it's taken a decent game like se4 and upgraded it.. but the best thing is invasion, I got in to an intense 40 minute cat and mouse chase with this random that was just epic.. it ended with him falling prey to a body bomb and I felt like a badass mofo Anyhoo solid 9/10 for me
Minor tip that will have huge impact...turn down the music to 15% The game is super fun and worth it, but man, the music really distracts me from hearing enemies and being stealthy myself.
I've always loved these games. I had high hopes for SE VR. While it was fun to play, I think it was a huge missed opportunity. As for this one, they have finally updated the graphics! All the SE games had always felt like they were behind the ball in this regard. All-in-all, I've never regretted buying one. Thanks Jake! Hope you feel better soon
Love the whole series including the zombie army, just the general fun you can get out of these games is just amazing and the diverse style you can adapt to play it as well, just alot of fun in general
Sniper elite 3 still my favourite personally, I feel like it had the best balance of open levels but still linear enough for them to set up the encounters really well. Idk why I played 4 then 3 and didn't like 4 and loved 3. Even when playing in co op in 4 I enjoyed 3 more.
@@maxsomerjoki8147 Even though it's linear I loved V2 and the atmosphere. This one is great too and the opening mission Atlantic wall they got it right with the hedgerows and farmhouses etc. A lot more depth in this game...definitely has replay ability.
I mean it’s cool and all but the graphics are still out dated for 2022, like this is equivalent to black ops 2 graphics, and the animations are still clunky and the x rays downgraded a bit.
I think what makes this series unique is the fact that it is historical. I love ww2 history so for me if it were in the modern era it wouldn't be as interesting. Ghost Warrior I think it's called is set in modernity, check that out.
Been using the Mosin-Nagant Since Sniper Elite for PS2(Yes every one after, the Scope, recoil, and reload timing matches my sniping style). Cannot wait to play this!
We’ve had a few settings, we’ve been been in Germany twice and then Africa, Sicily and now France. But this formula in another setting like the pacific, or another war like WWI, Korea, Nam or the war on terror (Iraq, Afghanistan) would be pretty cool, I’d especially love to go into the war on terror, going after high value terrorist organisation targets, shutting down terror plots. That would be SWEET!!!!
